I don't mind that this is in bad taste, but it could have been done a lot funnier, by IMPLYING the ick factor rather than that silly shaking and screaming stuff.

It should have gone like this:

    - Woman confesses pregancy
    - Man scared
    - She wants to keep it
    - He does Jedi mind trick
    - Cut to next scene: she's lying down. He ignites saber.
    - End.

    Rick McCallum loves you!

If a put it like this, "I felt a disturbance in the force, as if one voice suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silence." Seriously... this film is very weird, yet the force only works on the weak minded!

Wow. I didn't see that coming. I don't see there being a huge desire to see social commentary pieces like that here.

Meh. It's not that you don't expect to see stuff like this all the time on youtube or whatever, we're all used to that and nicely desensitised to, y'know, everything. I'd expect to see a lot of this stuff on a lot of forums, but TFn is usually (refreshingly) of a higher tone than most, between the hours of PixelMagic going to bed and waking up.

    Meh i say, meh.

I'm sorry but joking about killing a baby is not funny. Ever. If you think it is, you have some serious growing up to do. My wife and I lost a baby over a year ago, not on purpose, it just happened. It's very emotionally upsetting. And anyone having an abortion, isn't going to laugh about it. There's absolutely NOTHING funny about this video. It's a very serious topic, and deserves to be treated as such.

That's why it's in bad taste. For those who think otherwise, I feel sorry for you and hope you never ever have to go through the loss like that whether intentional or unintentional.

I understand why it's a touchy subject for you, Keith, that's a horrible thing to live through. However, I don't think that makes you an authority on what's allowed to be funny, nor does it put you on higher moral ground than to someone who does. It doesn't have to be funny for you, and indeed I can see why it's not.

Unfortunately, though it might be hard to look past, the humor in this does not come from the abortion, from my vantage point. The joke isn't the act of "lol, killing a fetus with a lightsaber," the humor is the disproportionate contrast between the stimulus (I'm pregnant) and the response (we need to kill it with a lightsaber) in the jedi. The prospective baby has very little to do with the joke, it just facilitates the joke.

I'm not saying it's in good taste, of course, nor is it particularly funny, but I think this is a joke that has to do with a freaked out guy, not a saber-blended baby. At least, that's how I see it.

Teague, it's going to be a touchy subject for most people. Sure, if you or anyone else thinks it's funny, that's certainly your right as it is the producer of the short. But when you post something like that, you best run for cover because I think it's safe to say most people will not find it funny.

From my vantage point, it's a film about pro-abortion. Hey, maybe I'm way off but that's how I perceived it. And for the record, I have no firm opinion on abortion, so the topic is irrelvant as far as my opinion of the movie itself. I just see as a poor choice of subject. I mean, what the heck were they thinking? I don't see how this could even be remotely funny. And I can't see (despite your reasoning) how it could be funny. No, I'm not the authority. You're right about that, but lets not wrap morality around the subject, however emotionally it does have a lot to do with it.

Yes, the disproportionate immorality of the response can be interpreted as funny. The entire opening was histrionically funny and if you even want to go further, there is a certain level of humor involved in the double entendre of the lightsaber. I think they took the original humor too far.

Either everything is okay to joke about, or nothing is. Who decides what is too serious? Are you actually going to let something have THAT much power over you that you can't joke about it?

I don't think the video's pro or anti anything. I think it's just an immature video someone made in under an hour. The video didn't offend me and I found it a bit humorous, although the ending was a bit over-the-top and I couldn't help but think how that meathod of abortion would just destroy the woman's insides and probably kill her. Couldn't he just use the force to make the baby pop out?

Funk, with all due respect when you lose a child then you come back and tell me it was funny. My opinion has nothing to do with control, it has to do with how I've grown up and the emotions entangled with a loss. I'm responding politely and as an adult.

This has everything to do with respect for others. People these days have very little of it. You can argue that point all you want, but it won't change my view or others that are more sensitive towards others. I've said all I'm going to say on this matter. Any more and I'll just be repeating myself.
