Ok, this is something I started last year to post, but at that time there was already another post that was essentially the same deal. I then was going to wait a few weeks, but misplaced the list I had put together. Tonight while searching for other material, I came across the list amd decided to put it up. Of late we've been more focusing on SW swears when we do slang, so this should be slightly different as it's slang in general. Bantha fodder, bantha poodo: worthless or waste, may also be used as a death threat (think Jabba talking to Han in RoTJ). Usually used on a senient being as an insult. Big L: the lightspeed barrier Boys in white: stormtroopers Clear skies! "Good flying!", "Safe journey!" Final jump: to die, death Grease the servos: to bribe someone Haul jets! to leave To Jabba: to trick or fool someone into a dangerous situation Scratch gravel!: "Get lost!" The Show: starfighter combat Vape, vap to kill. May be used often during fighter combat. Stang: an Alderaanian swear word. (Recently this has come under some controversy as stang actually appears in the real world and appears to have something to do with the word sting) Thank the Maker: droid term for something good that happens By the Force: exclamation of astonishment, surprise. Also appears to be used as a swear from time to time. Sithspawn, sithspit: swear, curse Emperor's black bones!, By the Emperor's black heart!: swear, curse You look like you could pull the ears off a gundark: a being appears healthy and strong Cross the Big L: to jump to lightspeed Burnout: loss of energy in a ship's power plant Eyeballs Rebel/New Republic pilot slang for TIE fighters Squints: Rebel/New Republic pilot slang for TIE Interceptors Dupes: Rebel/New Republic pilot slang for TIE Bombers Imp Star: Imperial Star Destroyer Mark I Imp Star Deuce: Imperial Star Destoryer Mark II Trips: Rogue Squadron slang for TIE Defenders Wishbones: slang for Y-wings. Appears to be pirate fighter pilot slang. Crosses: slang for B-wings. Appears to be pirate fighter pilot slang. Sithing....: swear directed at the subject that follows it. Example "You're sithing Kyp Durron."(please Kyp fan's, no yelling about the subject in the example being Kyp. The example appears in Simple Tricks.) Mother of Smoke!: swear, curse Frink, frinking: swear, curse May the Force be with you: good luck Stormie: stormtrooper Dirthdock: CorSec slang for Treasure Ship Row on Corellia CorSec: slang for a member, or former member, of the Corellian Security Force (CorSec for short) Sources include: ESB, RoTJ, TPM, WEG's Star Roleplaying Game: Second Edition, X-wing: Rogue Squadron, X-wing: Isard's Revenge, Tales from the Empire (Side Trip), Tales from the New Republic (Simple Tricks), and A Guide to the Star Wars Universe. Please feel free to add to this list. However, I do ask that you abide by a few simple rules. First, always post what the word or term means. If you don't know what it means, post what the context in which it's used would suggest it means. If it's a swear, post the meaning as swear, curse and not as what the real world equivalent may be. Second, post a list of sources where these words/terms may be found. And third, enjoy yourself.
The old norse curse, the nio stang. [image=http://www.ragnarokr.com/images/nidstang1.gif] Stang comes from to prick, to impale, as well as sting. By the minions of xendor(and any other variation there of.)
"I see your heading" - something like "I see your point". Often pilot slang. I think it's spoken in one of the Allston books.
What in the name of the Force?-What the heck(surprise) i cant remeber where i read it. i know it was in a trilogy, possibly the Thrawn trilogy or Jedi Acadamy Trilogy.
Like I said, no real world equivalent's on the swears. Considering Stang is a bit controversial as it is a real world and not one created for SW it's one thing to discuss the two. But to pick a certain SW swear, such as Emperor's black bones, and then give a real world equivalent was something I wanted to steer clear of.
Burnout: loss of energy in a ship's power plant Is this really slang? Isn't it when something actually burns out?
burnout also has a real world slang equivalent, Used, when someone shows the effects of drug abuse. complete definition: Main Entry: burn·out Pronunciation: 'b&r-"naut Function: noun Date: 1940 1 : the cessation of operation of a jet or rocket engine; also : the point at which burnout occurs 2 a : exhaustion of physical or emotional strength or motivation usually as a result of prolonged stress or frustration b : a person suffering from burnout 3 : a person showing the results of drug abuse In han solo at star's end, han says "Shag it all", a very 70's slang.
...this time with the help files enabled - Can you clear up that point? (One of the X-Wing books) Brights - NR pilot slang for Advanced Model TIES (X-Wing: Rogue Squadron) Clutch - Rogue Squad term for Invid fighters (I, Jedi) Skulls - Headhunters (appears to be pilot slang (also from I, Jedi...I think)) Nerf-herder - somewhat slow or unintelligent person (first used in ESB) Slims - X-Wings (I think) in pirate slang (I, Jedi) Winces - Erisi's term for squints (X-Wing: The Bacta War)
Yeah, that's something Stackpole wrote, but not an NJO book. That means it's either one of the X-wing books, or 'I, Jedi'.
