If your lucky enough to get a PSP on it's release date you get a free copy of the Spiderman 2 film on UMD.

I know that at first most of the UMD Films on the PSP will be Sony picture releases, but they want other studios to adopt it. Knowing Lucas's relationship with Sony and their sucess with the Digitial Camera project. Do you think if we asked enough that this might happen, and am I the only one who wants this? I know you can rip the DVD to a Flash card at 24fps at 400x272. Even more so now with the 2 gig scan disk cards. It's not the best way to bring the trilogy on the road. since the Scan Disks at those sizes are over 200 bucks a pop. I'm just throwing in my hat saying I would buy the trilogy all over again for the PSP, and was wondering if this desire is shared?

I'd never watch Star Wars on a pocket calculator.

Not exactly a pocket calculator. Why is the internet so full of Cynisism?

The PSP will be marketed as a Portable Game and Media device. Movies, Music and Games. So Why not give it the best trilogy on earth!

Just like the PS2 was going to evolve into your "in-home server" huh?

UMD movies are going to be short-lived. Who's going to be paying 20-30 bucks to watch a movie they've probably already seen on a tiny screen?

Yeah, I don't think the movie industry will make a pretty penny off of this thing. I can't watch a movie on that small of a screen.

The PSP is bad, terrible loading times (seriously, look them up on a game site, it takes 12 seconds to get from the the Playstation logo, to the game title on some of the games). The PSP will flop, you heard it here first.

The PSP will not flop, no matter how much you hate it. It has a very appealing design, it has a huge screen for a portable game system and the games will probably be very good.

And why, BTW, would anyone HOPE that the PSP will flop? I certainly do not hope so, because with this machine, Sony will force Nintendo to drop the prices on their DS products. Nintendo have been alone on the portable game market for too long.

    Sony - they are clever

It is time that someone used the obligatory "I've got a bad feeling about this" remark. While the Sony PSP might be fine for playing games (although I am not completely enamoured with their starting line-up), the entire issue of watching films on a screen as small as that of the PSP is something else entirely. I wouldn't pay extra money to purchase a version of a film that I would likely buy on DVD anyways - if I were truly desperate to have an excruciating experience trying to squint and "enjoy" a two-hour-plus film, I would invest in a portable DVD player. That way, I wouldn't need to buy a movie more than once (in multiple formats). I'm sorry, dontkillyoda, I'm with the majority on this matter - I wouldn't be interested in the "Star Wars" saga, no any other film for that matter, on the PSP. Since films are usually designed for larger viewing purposes, wouldn't this destroy the point of the more grand, theatrical nature of movies? Besides, I already have "Spider-Man 2" on DVD, and have no desire to watch it on the PSP.

I agree. There's no point in purchasing a movie for PSP-only watching. Do as I do and get yourself a widescreen laptop!
I also doubt that Lucas would be interested in releasing Star Wars on UMD. He is always concerned with picture and sound quality and the UMD format does not live up to his standards.

UMD - great for games and music, not for movies

Probably has something to do with my hatred of sony

I certainly do not hope so, because with this machine, Sony will force Nintendo to drop the prices on their DS products.

The PSP is twice the price of the DS

Nintendo have been alone on the portable game market for too long.

Atari Lynx, Sega Game Gear, N-Gage...
