I feel like this is what has become of Rogue Squadron. I can't fathom a movie called Starfighter set after TROS without Poe, though.
Yeah. Interesting that the name changed, wonder why. Well, in any case, glad to see something starfighter focused coming out, and something of the post-TROS era. Edit: though one downside is that is going to be even harder to search for the old star wars starfighter game stuff.
Neat i bet Oscar Isaac was going to there and we get Poe Dameron back in this movie. He be perfect for Starfighter. And from casting news we know we have a 15 year old young main character. Two villain roles. I expect our main villains be First Order remnants as we could x wings shoot Down tie fighters. Or maybe pirates takes over First Order bases. This 5-6 years post TROS and battle of Exegol was mentioned by Shawn Levy. I know now with%99 procent we got our Third Republic government.
The until-now-untitled Shawn Levy project has been a distinct development from Patty Jenkins's Rogue Squadron project. Whether or not RS still happens, I don't believe this is meant to replace it. If its a success, it might actually help it get across the finish line! Dammit. Start archiving all your shrines and tributes to Nym while you still can!
Their mainline sequel movies lost half of their audience for killing the OT3 do you really want to see a movie without a Roman numeral with that level of toxicity?
Generell audiences probably dont know who wedge is, lol And TFA was just a golden goose that TLJ and TROS could never match.
Personally? No, but you know, it ain't personal, it's just business and they already killed Luke, Han and Leia, and if someone major don't die then the story ain't dangerous enough... Yeah, I'm taking the mick. More seriously, wake me up when there's a trailer.
I guess I could get upset that this seems like it's being done in lieu of Rogue Squadron, and that accordingly, the Rogues --- arguably the most iconic creation of the entire old EU --- will probably continue to sit in a storage bin and not be used in the new canon at all. Yeah, I guess I could be upset about that. But why bother? It's not like this film doesn't also already have a date with the "no longer in active development" fairy. Honestly, The Mandalorian and Grogu is only aberrant because it has three seasons of TV propping it up. Mikey Madison was smart to turn this movie down --- she probably saw Mahershala Ali's career come to a dead stop while he, fresh off of his Oscars, waited for a Marvel movie that never came, and knew that she wasn't at all keen to follow in his footsteps. Bahaha sure thing mate
They've just made it so hard to not be suspicious as hell of every single new movie announcement. Two years ago, they triumphantly announced three new movies --- today, they didn't provide an update on any single one of them. Even the sooner-than-you-think release date of this new one, coupled with a guarantee that Ryan Gosling is in it, do absolutely nothing to prop up its believability. The Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy one guaranteed us Daisy Ridley, after all.
They say in that article that those movies are "in development", which is true. As of Kathleen's interview earlier this year, those (and Starfighter) were all the ones in the scripting phase and/or moving ahead quickly. So that's Starfighter, Rey, Dawn, and the next saga trilogy. Presumably they're staying quiet on Filoni's film until after Ahsoka Season 2. I think it was last year when Patty was seemingly back in board for Rogue Squadron, and that Kathleen said it could still happen, with rumors suggesting that it may be getting reworked into a TV series (which, frankly, would be much better anyways- all we've ever wanted from Rogue Squadron for 30 years is a Star Wars "Space: Above and Beyond" or, later, a Star Wars modern BSG).
Why we haven't had a Star Wars show set on a space station baffles me. Or a single carrier-corvette we follow on adventures.
