I just recently got into collecting Star Wars trading cards. Mainly from the first three movies. And I was wondering if there were anyone else out there that liked to collect Star Wars cards? What are some of your favorite Star Wars cards or series?

I enjoy collecting the cards but it is a frustrating hobby. It seems like every set I have collected has a hole in it. There are always those two or three cards that I can never seem to get. I have duplicates out the butt of all the others but some still elude me. Plus I never can bring myself to pay the usually astronomical prices to just get the certain cards.

I'd definitely recommend giving www.starwarscards.net a look if you're gonna get heavy into trading cards. Lots of great information and traders over there.

I have all the old school SW cards from the seventies. There were a LOT of cards in that set. I have all of the blue series set. I also have the SW 3D card set which is really hard to find now. All the OT Widevision and PT Widevison sets. They had a great idea when they decided to go widescreen for card.

I collected Topps Empire Cards when I was a kid.... I'm old so like before we had VCR's I used to lay these cards out on my floor and put them in movie order. It worked for then.

Just recently I saw the full Empire Set on Ebay so I bought it. Then I thought well I just can't have one full set so I got the Star Wars and Jedi full near mint+ sets also off Ebay. I didn't know there was a mistake threepio card in the star wars set so it's cool that I got that card in the set that I bought. I love these things.

Got my ANH set in protective sheets last night. Still waiting for some of Empire and Jedi cards to come. There are some CLASSIC pictures in the Episode IV set.

    Edit by CrazyMike

Sorry Zaxxom, we had to remove that rather provocative picture of C3PO

Let's just say that 3PO had an extra part not found in the films and leave it at that. I am sure you can find the image online. :)

Well, yeah, I noticed that, but thought it was just a part of his hip or something behind him sticking out.
Hard to tell from the scan I guess.

Actually a slightly different version of the pic was posted in another forum and it was editted there as well. When I saw it the second time I recognized it. (I think I was probably half-awake to miss it the first time!)

It was card #207 Topps 4th Episode IV green set for those keeping score at home. :)

I wonder how the heck that card went to print like that

The story I heard is that someone messed with the image during preproduction of the card. I need to track down my set and have a glance at that card to see if it is the same.

I looked up some info on it and it said the corrected card might be worth more because more of the mistake cards were printed.

    Crazy.

Gives new meaning to the "Hurry up golden rod or your gonna be a permenant resident!" Han line.

I looked it up in Super Collectors Wishbook 2nd edition (since that edition had the pics). Both versions are pictured next to each other with Topps' Card #207 A collectible controversy printed between them. In the card list it is described as X-rated version. The price given for that version is 35.00 US (and it is the same in the 3rd edition, though the card is described as R-rated there). The regular version has a price of 6.00 US.

I wanna know the story. Is it just a trick of the photography or was actually doctored that way. And why?

    From www.starwarscards.net:

Various stories exist about how the image came to be included in the set, everything from an accidental trick of the light, to a deliberate prank by either a LucasFilm or a Topps employee. However it happened, it made card number 207 one of the most famous vintage Star Wars cards ever produced.

Card number 207, as it was originally printed, appeared to give C-3P0 an added appendage that would not be particularly necessary for a droid. For this reason, the card is often referred to by collectors as the obscene version of the card. In reality, the added appendage (which might indeed be a trick of the light in the photograph) isn't terribly noticeable at first glance, and far from being obscene, is somewhat humorous in appearance.

Parents of course were not amused, and as rumors about the existence of an 'obscene' Star Wars card circulated, complaints began to come in. Topps responded by reprinting card 207 for subsequent print lots.

It is a myth that the obscene 207 is rare. It is not rare. The same number of 207 cards were printed as any other card in the initial print run. In other words, thousands and thousands of these cards were printed. The same is true of the corrected version of the card. Neither card is particularly hard to locate.

It is true that the card is generally over priced when being sold. Most collectors want to own a copy of this unusual card, and generally they want to own both versions. For this reason, because demand for the card is artificially high, prices tend to range from $5-20 for this one card. Collectors should consider carefully what they are willing to pay for the card however, by keeping in mind it is not scarce.

I collect all star wars cards, from promos, to oversized to 3d. whatever..the best to get are the heritage cards or the foil old style cards that they came out with about 3 years ago. it was all the old school cards, reprinted in foil. also the widevision 3D series was really, really cool.

get ready for the 30th annyversary cards..with more sketch cards and autographed cards.

I'm only interested in the vintage Topps sets, but I do have the basic "Heritage" set from 2004. So far I have the Blue, Red and Yellow border ANH (And the sticker sets for the first two), and the red border ESB. I also still have the cards I had as a kid, but they're not in great shape... I almost have enough to make complete ESB red, blue and yellow sets and red and blue ROTJ sets.

Topps Vault just wrapped up some auctions on ebay which contained original color keys and proofs from the original Topps sets of SW and ROTJ and the BK ESB sets. Some of the cards with iconic imagery got hundreds of dollars for a single card while some of the uncut sheets went over four figures. It was nuts.
