Star Wars "What If...?" Discussion

I would have loved it if Count Dooku were a genuine political idealist *and* light side Jedi who founded the Rebellion against the Republic because he knew that it had been taken over by a Sith Lord.

No one else believed him.

He dies a tragic death, perhaps at the hands of Anakin.

Alas, sadly wasted.

I actually don't think this is a bad idea personally

but then who would have had the epic lightsaber duel at the end of AOTC?

 

I really like this idea. I never thought Dooku was as awful as most seem to think. I thought he had a rather noble streak and have always wanted to see him as a Jedi or Lightsider of the Force.

 

TCW hammered home Dooku's awfulness- but the novelization of RoTS also made it clear that Dooku was not nearly as noble as he pretended to be.

Dooku's willing partnership with Sidious in AoTC really should be considered as evidence of what he's willing to do- be the "other side" in a galaxy spanning war, intended to catapult both of them into full control of the galaxy (with Sidious betraying Dooku).

 

After Dooku slices off Anakin's arm, the look he had on his face before Yoda walks in seemed to be a face of regret. It always struck me that he doesn't seem as evil as everyone says he is, but he continues to do the bidding he agreed to do with the darkside. Also, I'm sure Dooku being a daredevil was intrigued to finally use his powers against a a real Jedi for the first time.

 

Dooku was just sad that only Sidious knew his real (and much cooler) name.

That's not a bad idea for an alternate universe kind of story.

I really like Count Dooku. I think he was a very classic character that didn't have the chance to reach his full potential. The Clone Wars really does shape his story and character a lot more (from what I've seen so far anyways) but I think something like this that offered a little bit more of a nuanced take on Dooku would have really been stellar. Either that or a bit more clearly stress the role he's playing in the film.

I do think that the PT villians could have been strengthened a bit by introducing them one film earlier. A simple mention of Dooku or Dooku sitting on the Jedi Council would have added a lot more weight to his actions when his role in AOTC is revealed.

 

Absolutely, I think his role wouldve been better off as a "grey" Jedi. Also Mace Windu's role should have been taken by him, that of the second most powerful Jedi. It would be nice for him to appear in TPM just because we would care a little more about his "fall".

 

When did he cease to be one?

 

I agree with the first half of The Watcher's statement but I already cared about Dooku's fall.

 

What if Dooku founded the Rebellion instead of the CIS?

Then we'd have a different set of movies.

If this is a what if discussion, then what if Padme had survived? Would she join the Rebels, or be instantly hunted down by Vader?

 

I think she would've attempted at least to join the Rebels.

 

She would've changed her identity most likely or hide inside R2.

 

What if Anakin died in a freak accident on his way to tell Mace Windu that Palpatine is a Sith Lord?

 

What if Obi-Wan turned to the Dark Side ?
