Anyone remember this series? X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-wing vs Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance? Well, I got these running on Windows 7 and it's been so long, its like playing them for the first time. I could really use some help if people remember.
Lol! These have to be the hardest Star Wars games I have ever played, with Bounty Hunter taking a quick second I thought it best not to start a tour duty until I've completed the training missions. I am stuck on the X-Wing historical combat mission: Rescue at Mon Calamari. I quickly identify two cargo crates identified as Calamari, but for some reason the Alliance doesn't board it, which gives the Ties plenty of time to destroy it. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Does anyone still have the official strategy guide? What tips does it give about this mission?
FYI, some breakthroughs have been made in OPT editing for XWA recently...visit the XWA Upgrade Project forums for details.
The Xwing series is by far my favorite of the Star Wars games. I played through each of them and their campaigns (some games, more than ones) and loved it all. This is one series that I wish we could get more games for. They just don't make space flight sims like they used to.
Well, you can get new user-made missions. Some even have new ships. eg. http://njoproject.swcity.net/episodeishipset/main.html
Ah this will be neat. X-Wing was integral in the new wave of STAR WARS excitement in the early '90s, along with sparking fascination with the new tech of the time. I miss that...before the prequels, before the new toys, before the Special Editions, before Windows 95 and Jurassic Park. It was also like watching more STAR WARS that was hidden away and between the scenes and events of the movies, like dreams I'd had at the time. I don't know if people who've grown up with constant SW content for the last two decades can relate.
Yes, finally! Lost my discs years ago, glad to see these games get a rerelease. Hope X-wing Alliance is added someday too. Hm, wonder if we'll need a joystick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is long, long, long, overdue. LucasArts' final years were full of turmoil (revolving door of management, poor management, canceled project after canceled project, no direction, mixed messages from Lucas, etc. etc) but by golly they could have got a small crew to work and tweak the X-Wing series (or, gasp, make a new installment!) and BOOM. Insta $$$$$$$$$$$ Shame. But I'm glad these two gems are back. Here's hoping X-Wing Alliance is back, and that sales of these games will spur Disney to make a new X-Wing game. Because we could really use a good flight sim these days. Especially one that takes place in the Star Wars universe.
Holy freaking crap! I think I may be more excited for this than any upcoming new release. Actually, scratch that--I am more excited for this than any upcoming new release.
I like ever since LucasArts has been put out of its misery we've been getting more LucasArts content than ever. X-wing? TIE Figher?? GRIM ****ING FANDANGO ON PS4???
I don't think you need a joystick for X-Wing or TIE Fighter, you can do crazy mouse movements to pilot. XWA needed a joystick though.
Ugh. Unfortunately, I have to wait a couple of days before I can actually get this awesome goodness...
