In the film they seem pretty happy about having nukes, why send in groundforces when they could just nuke the every planet from orbit?

i think it was cause those one plasma bugs could knock them out before they reached their atmosphere

They do that. There's a scene where you see a squadron of starbombers napalming bugs, but they also need to send in ground forces to get the ones that the bombers missed.

It's explained in the book, I think it's because they really don't know where they are, combined with the fact that the known places are pretty far away and in a thick asteroid belt.

...they also need to send in ground forces to get the ones that the bombers missed.

Not if you a couple hundred 10-15 megaton hydrogen bombs, they destroy everything in 35km radius.

You'd still need ground troops. Not ALL the the bugs are going to be on the surface.

From what I know about the book the Mobile Infantry is equipped with suits of power armor. I can't for the life of me figure out why the movie didn't show this because it would have looked really cool.

Horribly stupid politics aside, the books military stuff was a good bit better than the films. The troopers were a good deal more heavilly armored then shown in the movie. Each one was a walking death machine, instead of the bumbling idiots shown in the film.

Why were you thinking during Starship Troopers?

Why didn't they just nuke the OPPM? [face_plain]

Cause then there`s no conflict,in a lot of these sci-fi movies they have the technology to kill the hero/villian but they dont.

I think Dr.Evil summed it up nicely...

Apply to Geonoseos EpII. Why not use thousand FederalCruiser to fire at the planet than using ground troops?

I am the perfect soldier. I am a combo of both.

I am a bumbling idiotic death machine.

It's like asking why didn't the Empire build multiple Death Stars, things are bound to go wrong, weather bugs destroy them or the in the Empire's case they run out of twinkies and Hoho's

Wasn't this explained in both the movie (during boot camp, I think) and the book?

I think it has something to do with the purpose of war: it is not to destroy the enemy (as nuking a planet would do), but to stop your enemy from having the capability of waging war. Or something like that...

Is this the vital question to ask with regards to 'Starship Troopers'? Me, I'd ask why there weren't more topless scenes.

    :p

I thought it was because the bugs burrowed into the ground and their shells protected them from radiation?

Plus, then we wouldn't get to see people get ripped apart by alien bugs.

Their shells can protect them from radiation, but I don't think it's going to protect them from the intense heat and shocwave/backlash of the initial explosion.
