"Stay with the ship, R2."

Anyone else notice how R2 keeps getting told to stay with the ship in the PT? I think it's hilarious, and I can just imagine the frustration build-up each time. I'm sure a few of those beeps a blurps is cussing under his breath, like "Why don't you stay with the ship instead, you ass!"

 

I've also noticed this and found it funny. I think it's funny not only because it keeps happening to him but because usually when he gets told to stay with a ship, he does something important and helpful.

 

R2 gets into too much trouble wherever he goes. But I guess he hasa knack for rescuing himself and others.

 

Its funny cause in the OT they need him alot more for doors and stuff,before using your lightsaber was an answer to a blast door.

They probably want him to stay with the ship so he stays together in one piece until they need rescuing. Anakin even says Artoo will be along any minute,and he'll release the rayshields..if he went with them, he would've been 'spare parts' as Anakin always puts it.

 

He saves everybody's backside at one time or another! He's the TRUE hero in every episode! he's da man.. a, er droid.

 

I caught this during the PT and found it funny also. I am pretty sure Lucas used this as a running gag, how everyone treats R2 as a child and yet he always saves our heroes.

 

Yep,he always save the heros but always has to stay with the ship. When does that get fair?

 

I think Anakin [and Obi-Wan, for that matter] were just concerned for R2-D2's safety considering what they were about to face [Dooku, the droids, Grievous]. Although R2-D2 is quite perfectly capable of taking care of himself, just look how he pwned the Super Battle Droids in The Invisible Hand's hangar!

 

When Anakin and R2D2 went to Mustafar i think Anakin did'nt want R2D2 to see what he was going to do.

 

everybody in prequels seem to care about his wellfare, so they want him to be safe.

 

off the top of my head, R2-D2 is told to remain with the ship 4 times throughout the saga.

AOTC: When they arrive at the Lars homestead
ROTS: When they land in the TF cruiser and when Anakin arrives on Mustafar
ESB: When Luke arrives on Dagobah.

 

poor R2. he gets no respect

 

Yes, that is pretty funny. But R2 is an extraordinary droid. I guess they leave him with the ship becuase they can trust that he can actually take care of it...He deserves more credit!
