Things do Not Exactly Repeat themselves in these Strange Movies... However, as Lucas has Described it, it Often Rhymes...

Two Events Early in the Empire Strikes Back "Rhyme" With Events Later in the Movie. Both Dealing With Luke's Peril With the Wampa...

1st... Luke Removes the Beast's Right Arm with His Lightsaber. An Action that in turn Happens to Him in the Final Act of the Movie.

2nd... Luke is Saved From Freezing Solid By His Friend Han. At the End of the Movie... Luke is trying to Save His Friend Han Who Is Curently Frozen Solid.

This Seems to Be An Intregal Part to the Thematic Motif the Filmakers as they Structured this Particular Movie.... Not the Saga as Whole.

That's a really great point - I never noticed that before! I guess it just shows how things get worse for the heroes in that movie - they're able to deal with and survive those situations at the start of the movie, but not at the end.

Actually, Luke taking off the Wampa's arm touches back to Ben Kenobi dealing with the cantina thugs - even the same arm-lying-on-floor-with-trail-of-blood shot.

The loss of Luke's hand (not arm) pays off in ROTJ, when we see Vader, too, has a mechanical hand. We've since seen how that happens in AOTC.

There are numerous parallels in the saga as a whole.

Dooku's invitation to Obi-Wan echoes Vader's invitation to Luke.

Luke's crying out, 'Help me!' echoes Anakin's comment to Shmi in TPM.

Anakin's anger in AOTC - 'I wasn't strong enough. I promise, I won't fail again,' shows the growth of the angry little kid ... flash forward to ESB, and the angry little kid is still trying to fix things and make things right - '... we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the Galaxy!'

Obi-Wan sees Qui-Gon get cut down; Luke sees Obi-Wan get cut down.

Not all of them have to have some deep, inner meaning, but as the PT is completed, any search for parallels and foreshadowing should include all of the films.

Also, Anakin makes a choice in AotC so leave his duty and save his mother, who he senses is in danger. Luke does the same in ESB, when he leaves his training to save his friends. Both attempts fail (yes, Leia, Chewie and Threepio do escape, but by themselves, without Luke's help), and lead to greater disasters.

The Force is telling me that Anakin's shift to the Dark Side will mirror the scene where Luke has Vader prone in ROTJ. Only when Sidious commands Anakin to kill Dooku he won't punk out.

Everyone seems to get their arms lobbed off...even in the Dark Forces games..its ridiculous! I hope we get some sort of explanation eventually..unless its just one of those "traits".

    Here's another one:

Anakin was offered the chance of becoming a Jedi by Qui-Gon. He accepted. ("You mean I get to come with you in your starship?!")

Luke was offered the chance of becoming a Jedi by Obi-Wan. He denied. ("I can take you as far as Anchorhead.") But later on, Luke no longer had a choice, when his aunt and uncle were killed.

About the blood in the cantina arm chop scene. Don't lightsabers seal as they cut? Why is there blood?

Nice observation on the "freezing" thing. Never noticed it. Wonder if it was intentional, since Lucas was also pulling from the "turning to stone" legens on that one.

Everybody loses their arms in Star Wars.

See-Threepio and the guy that picks on Luke in the Cantina in ANH

    Luke in ESB

    Darth in ROTJ

    Anakin in AOTC

    Anybody I'm missing?

Have you listened to the RotJ commentary yet? :D

And Everybody Loses ther Right Arm...

Accept Threepio.... Who Loses His Left Arm?

Apparently there is something "different" about Threepio...

I'm guessing this refers to Anakin's comment in TPM: "Mom, you said the biggest problem in this universe is nobody helps each other". Luke crying out for Anakin to help him at the end of RotJ echoes this - Anakin learns to help again.
