All the shops are closed and [because my parents are christian] I can't eat meat.
I was going to go and get X-Men 1.5 today but realised the shops were closed damn that annoyed me.
Why can't we eat meat on good friday? I know it's the day "Jesus died" but what is the go with not being able to eat any meat?

The Catholic Church observes abstinence from meat on Fridays during Lent (which ends with the Easter Vigil on Saturday).

I believe it's a Catholic thing? They don't eat meat on any Fridays, to my recolection. If anyone here is Catholic, correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

I didn't realize it's a catholic thing! :( My mom and I are people who converted from catholicism, and we still don't eat meat on Fridays. Not that I care anymore. ;) I love vegetarian and fish foods now that I'm older. :)

no it's Friday were I live 2:25pm to be exact.
I'm Catholic but I thought the church got relaxed and you can't eat meat on Good Friday and that's it.
I was more interested in how it started, like how did they decide that we can't eat meat on a friday.

The full observation is abstinence from meat and fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, and no meat on each Friday during Lent.

I'm glad this is the last Friday of Lent.

    I usually eat fast food on Fridays so this is always a tough part of the year. 8-}

I'm glad I'm of a denomination which doesn't limit the types of food I can eat and when I can eat it. :D

It is kind of an important part of His role as the Savior. If He'd not been crucified He couldn't really have died for our sins, now could He? So it's not called Good Friday because He died, it's called Good Friday because of why He died. It's also impossible to rise from the dead without actually dying first. Or such is my understanding.

No, God changed his mind on that. Now you can eat meat anytime you like excepting Ash Wednesday and any Friday during Lent.

I have to go to school tomorrow. I go to a Catholic school. The public schools are out.

Anyone see a problem here? [face_plain]

Yes, that's what we people with common sense like to call "lame." [face_plain]

Although they're probably going to make sure you're fasting and in church all day, right?

I'm Catholic but I still eat meat on Fridays. I think it was started as a sacrifice to God, as oppose to the huge sacrifice Jesus made with his own life. If you do eat meat, I don't think it's a real big deal. You won't go to hell for it or anything.

The reason it's called Good Friday, is not only did God forgive Mankind's sins in exchange for Jesus's life, but Jesus was also able to rise and open the gates of heaven which up to that point were closed. At least that's what I learned in Sunday School, some 15 years ago.

Ha! You guys don't know how easy you have it. Try being Byzantine Catholic. Today we can't have any meat or dairy products. No milk, Which means no cereal, no eggs, no cheese. So you're stuck with toast, margarine and tuna. :p
