Those who write worms and viruses should be drug out into the street, beaten, allowed to heal, then beaten some more.

    That is all.

Just get better virus protection. I'd recommend Norton(not free) or AVG(free) :)

And yes, viruses do suck :(

I especially hate removal instructions, because I'm a total dumbass when it comes to computers, and I HATE having to go through everything and making sure it's all deleted. *sigh*

Oh, and I HAVE Norton. That's what alerted me to the the worm.

Okay, I did a virus scan, and nothing identified as a trojan came up. BUT...it says to go into the registry and delete any files associated with, which I know NOTHING about.

But here is what it said in the Threat Report file from Norton:

    These two are access denied:
    Source: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YN83D2BY\IdleUI[1].dll
Click for more information about this threat : Trojan Horse

    And

    Source: C:\WINDOWS\System32\IdleUI.dll
Click for more information about this threat : Trojan Horse

Then the ones that say, repair failed:

    Source: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YN83D2BY\IdleUI[1].dll
Click for more information about this threat : Trojan Horse

    Source: C:\WINDOWS\System32\IdleUI.dll
Click for more information about this threat : Trojan Horse

    What does this MEAN???

    WAAAHHHH!!! :_|

Basically, Norton was denied access to the two files located at [C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YN83D2BY\IdleUI[1].dll] and [C:\WINDOWS\System32\IdleUI.dll] and thus its attempt at repairing the two files failed (well, it looks like just one file - "IdleUI.dll", that you got it somewhere on the internet, thus it being present in Temporary Internet Files, and it's copied itself over to your System32 folder).

I find Norton painful to use - it usually went "I can't do anything, sorry, would you like to ignore these files in future scans?". I really recommend AVG Anti-virus over Norton, as (for me) it actually manages to delete files it can't fix.

Alternatively, you can open up Windows Explorer, and navigate to [C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YN83D2BY\IdleUI[1].dll] and [C:\WINDOWS\System32\IdleUI.dll], and manually delete the files. Might be a faster option. :)

I found that Norton works quite well for me. I do have to do that manual delete as Iron_Fist said, but I don't really mind. I set it to ask me of what should be done if it finds anything.

The manual delete seems to have worked. I'm running another virus scan, but it seems to be okay.

*sigh* I shouldn't complain, this is only the second time I've had to deal with a virus, and last time Norton zapped it immediately.

I wasn't sure if you were talking about condoms, USC, viruses or the movie Troy. I hate viruses as well.

I have made a crapload of money on the side because of these guys. I charge people $50 per PC to get rid of spyware and/or virus. If the computer needs to be rebuilt from the OS, the price jumps to $200 for the PC.

The only thing I require from people is that they sign up for a subscription from one of the spyware checkers and have up to date virus protection when I'm done.

The $50 is for my labor.

You have no idea how many PCs I've cleaned in the last year. I've probably made $2000 just in cleaning people's PCs off alone.

If the IRS is watching, it's probably more like $200. ;)
