A suggestion I would like to make to Lucasarts for an add-on or sequel to Jedi Knight 2 is to include a key that you press to block attacks, or a toggle key that turns on autoblocking mode. It's such a hassle to rely on the auto blocking already built into the game. If you had some control over blocking, saber duels would be more intense and more skill based, and obviously less luck based. The auto blocking toggle would be ideal for blaster fire, while a single key to block attacks would be better suited for duels.

A suggestion would be for you to get Knights of the Old Republic. Although it is automatic blocking, it isnt based on luck that you autoblock it. Its a skill, i presume, and blocking saber/blaster attacks will be based on your skill to do so. So yah, get that game. I cant wait for it...

Play JO w/ Promod. Instead of "luck" it depends on your aim.

You'd be surprised, Sithman. I beat all my friends at Jedi Knight 2. I was just thinking of a situation where you have direct control over your defenses, in the same way you have direct control over your defenses. No need to be insulting.

And I wish Jedi Outcast was as wide and diverse as Deus Ex, but none of us ever get what we wish for.

I meant the same way you have direct control over your attacks.

I wasn't trying to be insulting. I was merely saying that if you consider it "luck" when yourself or someone kills another person with the saber, then perhaps you aren't that good.

If it dueling in Outcast was all luck, then there wouldn't be any good players, nor any bad players, right? We'd all just be equally lucky and unlucky.
Well, unfortunately, there ARE extremely good and extremely bad Outcast lightsaber duelists. How could someone consistently win duels if he's not lucky? Oh yah, skill...

I was talking about one aspect being more luck based than skill based : blocking. I win my duels because I stay away from opponents when they are on the attack, and move in only to kill. Thus not using the block feature because I have no control over it.

This was kinda what I had in mind : it's a mod called Master of the Force in development by Razorace over at Jediknightii.net he's planning on implemening a new saber system in a later release of MOTF where you can block & attack both ( neutral ), defend actively or attack actively.

    [/i]Neutral:

The Basic mode. This mode is for beginners or people that don't want to do the whole Attack/Defend strategy. While in Neutral mode, you can attack and defend (auto-blocking). The special ability of this mode is to be able to "block" attacks while doing attack moves (See the arena fight in Episode II.) (To make this look good, we'll probably have to make bolts that are "blocked" autotrack to blade. This shouldn't be noticeable at the current bolt speeds.) This mode is best for fighting in a gun battle.

    Defense:

You CAN'T attack in this mode. Instead, you use Primary to do Active Blocking. Active Blocking is where you boost your combat stats (block, deflection, parry, etc rating) by clicking Primary just as an attack is coming it. The closer the click is to the impact time, the more your stats are improved. This abilty will obviously have a recharge time to prevent spamming.

    Attack:

In this mode, the autoblock rate will be little to none. However, your attack skills are boosted in exchange (damage, defense break, saber lock, etc.). There will probably be some other advantages (say, make "finisher" moves only work in this mode.)

These changes are set up to make saber more rythmic (based on changing aggression postiers than a rock-paper-scissor or red beats all system.) Neutral lets "lite" players still enjoy the game while Attack/Defense provide deep gameplay for the experts.

Other changes will probably involve slower saber swings, a total redo of the unrealistic, unbalances "specials", Saber Clashes (replaces Saber Locks with a more tactical system based on reflex and smart thinking instead of button mashing), and "Finishers" (basically "cool ways to kill your defeated foes")[/i]
