There are two movies coming out in the not-too-distant future that I really want to see. Superman Returns (opening Wed. June 28th) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (opening Fri. July 7th). Anyone interested in joining me? If so, anyone have a theater/date/approximate showtime preference?

PotC, I'm interested in seeing. Bryan Singer's abortion of a Superman ripoff, not so much.

I'm probably going to see Superman Returns on opening night (or maybe the special early screening the night before at 10 PM) But I KNOW I will probably be seeing it multiple times, so I am in. :)

Not sure if I saw the first Pirates movie, but if the time and setting is right, I'm always up for good summer flicks.

I'm with you too for both movies. It will be just me for Superman though. I was really hoping to be able to take Michaela to see Superman, but the PG-13 rating nixed that idea. BTW, What is it with every super hero movie being rated PG-13 anymore??? (Batman begins, X-men, Spiderman, Daredevil, and now Superman Returns) Not that he is a super hero, but even Harry Potter is going the way of PG-13. When I was between 5-7 years old one of my favorite things was superheroes - especially Spiderman, Batman & Superman. I would have been really upset NOT to be able to see them because of the rating. I'm not necessarily saying that they need to be geared towards that age group, but maybe tone the violence down to a Star Wars (excluding episode III) level. Or does it matter and as a rule of thumb the ratings industry slaps a pg-13 rating on every bad guy vs good guy movie that has a little violence. OR, do you think that these movies are being intentionally geared towards an older audience knowing that they will have a PG-13 rating? Don't they know that they will probably have better box office proceeds if they get the rating down to a PG. It almost seems like there are more PG-13 rated movies than PG anymore. There are a few exceptions, but on average, the G & PG movies seem to do better at the box office since they are geared towards the whole family.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. As far as show times go, the weekends work better for me than Friday evenings do. Late afternoon/ early evening is preferred (matinee prices). Are we planning on going to see Superman at the IMAX in 3D?

These days you can't necessarily go by the ratings. They gave a PG rating to the movie "Facing the Giants" which is about a football coach at a Christian High School. It's rated PG not for nudity, vulgar language, or violence, but because it has Christian content.

I wouldn't mind seeing Superman and Pirates of the Caribbeano as well. Depending on when and where of course.

Superman is PG-13 for "some intense action violence." It's up to you to decide if that warrants her not seeing the movie yet.

If you can wait, Sunday afternoon for Superman will work best for me as I just found out that we have plans that Saturday.

If that means the 2nd, I was thinking of having a birthday/housewarming party then (and you'd be invited). Why don't we go see it some night in IMAX? There's no discount for seeing a matinee, so need to wait for the weekend.

Showtimes listed on FAN~DANG! for Superman at the IMAX are:
    11:30
    3:00
    7:00
    10:30
If we choose Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, I would imagine that 7:00 is the very latest that Dylan could go see it as he probably has to work (unless he has one of those evenings off).

Even 7:00 would be pushing it close -- it's a 2 1/2 hour movie. That would give me about 30 minutes to get home from Opry Mills, get changed, and get back out the door.

I'd prefer an afternoon screening, myself.

With what I have on my plate right now (13 renderings due Friday), I doubt I'll have the time to take off early for an afternoon show during the week. I'll just have to play it by ear & see how it goes.

I actually had the chance to see Superman last night at 10 p.m. with my improv comedy troupe. It's an excellent movie -- definitely go see it.

Scott, I didn't see anything objectionable for someone your daughter's age. As long as she can sit still for 2 1/2 hours, of course.

I wouldn't mind seeing it again with the NAD group, but don't let my work schedule be a deciding factor on the showtime.

Well, I'm not having a get-together of some type this weekend, so I could certainly go on Saturday or Sunday.

I think I'll go on Saturday at 3:00 for the IMAX show. Anyone joining me? If so, I'll meet you out front the theater around 2:30. Call me [EDIT: Removed] if you're running late.

I'm heading to see it this afternoon. I hope it's as good as I have heard. I mean I like to see a man in form fitting suit as much as the next girl, but I am a Superman fan as well and hope they do it justice.

Has anyone seen the IMAX 3D yet? Just curious what the 3D is like. On Fandango it just says "some scenes are in 3D."

We are planning on going to Opry Mills Saturday to see 3:30 showing if I don't work.

We went & saw it at the Thoroughbred this weekend. I was a little disappointed to say the least as it wasn't near as good as I had hoped. :( I expected there to be a bit of an edge to Superman after being gone for 5 years. Yet he picks up his goody two shoes (red boots) right where he left off. And what was with leaving out "the American way"? Is it not politically correct to be an American anymore?!! In one scene, the head of the Daily planet sends his reporters out to find out why Superman was gone for so long and if he is still for "Truth, Justice & ...all that stuff"! THAT scene made me want to just get up and walk out of the theater. When I was growing up Superman WAS an American icon. He was as much a part of America as the Star Spangled banner. I guess according to Hollywood, he isn't anymore. In Superman IV they turned Superman into an international political character by having him remove all the nuclear weapons from the earth for fear of a nuclear disaster. The worst of the Superman movies in my opinion. Why try to make this Superman like the previous films from the 70's & 80's? Why not break new ground, have an original thought or approach. I & II were good in their day (especially II), because they were cannon with the comics. III, IV were given over to the cheese producers of hollywood & were just plain awful. I was glad that they kept the original John Williams theme though. Unfortunatley, in this movie Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor in my opinion was far better than Brandon Routh's Superman. And what is with the ditsy girlfriend like mis Tessmacher (SP?) in the original Superman. She was totally unecessary & annoying. In my opinion, this movie was not even close to being as good as Batman Begins.

I don't think that I would be inclined to drive out to Opry Mills to see this in 3D after seeing it already. They could have easily cut a half hour out of the film. Some of the scenes were a little unbeleivable like the part with the people being thrown around the plane as much as they were & not being injured or DEAD. Then when Superman opens the door after they nearly did a face plant into a baseball field, everyone is neatly in their seats & just a little shook up, but no major injuries. [face_thinking] Also how much footage of the krypton crystal islands growing do we really need to see? And when did Superman & Lois do the wild thing? In Superman II he was human when they did it. That of course brings to mind a Kevin Smith clip from Mall rats [face_laugh] :

Brodie: It's impossible, Lois could never have Superman's baby. Do you think her fallopian tubes could handle his sperm? I guarantee he blows a load like a shotgun, right through her back. What about her womb, you think it's strong enough to carry his child?

    TS: Sure, why not?

Brodie: He's an alien for Christssake. His Kryptonian biological makeup is enhanced by Earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonderwoman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a Kryptonite condom, but that would kill him.

For once Scott and I are in agreement. (I'll spare you the KS quote corrections this time :p )

My question is how does Lois REMEMEBER its Superman's child.
