I played through a few "levels" of this the other night for X Box. It plays just like a Spider-Man game. You have the city and those little dots you have to fly too for story points. The city looks horrible, and it's not even up to Spider-Man 2 standards (it MUST look better on a X Box 36). The first mission is to destroy all the meteors heading to the city. but it's hard considering you have to tap about 1,000 buttons to get Superman do do anything. You have heat vision, and cold breath, but the bars for those are so short so therefore you can't finish the thing in time, and you have to replay it again. And this is just the training level!

The DC Heroes game that came out a few weeks ago is much cooler and funner.

^It's the best/worst Superman game ever played. But, the game doesn't follow the movie at all. You don't even get to fight Lex. There is no John Williams music, and Brandon Routh sounds like he's sleepwalking through the voicework.

The city is just dull. It's not like Spidey where you go around New York, and see famous landmarks. Here, the streets are almost like a ghost town.

Example of a scene in the game - a building catches on fire - fly over to it, and use super cold breath to blow out the fire.

At least the Spidey games had the best of the movies while doing new stuff. You don't even get play as Clark!

    Wait wait wait...

    Wait just a minute.

A movie game is bad? That is truly shocking. Just shocking.

^SW Battlefront is based on movies, and that's a good game.

It isn't really based on it. It's a playoff of the universe. A movie game is a game that is specifically made to follow the events of the movie.

Rarely does a movie video game follow the events of its movie. They may have the same major villan, but really they cut away alot from the movie because of the fact that if it followed its movie there wouldnt be enough action to satisfy the video game.

Depends on the version. I got the PC and it was so God awful it wasn't even funny. I beat it in a day. Graphics were so bad that fingers didn't separate, they were one giant palm the entire time. When mouths open the only thing inside was black. Terrible game, probaly the worst I've ever played. I have heard that the console version is much better, but for me that PC ruined SM2 the game beyond repair.

USM is the Ultimate Spider Man game if you ask me. Pun intended.

I've also played the game. It's important to mention: They really get the feeling of being Superman SPOT on. Game is almost worth a rental simply to experience how they implemented the flying and super powers. You really DO feel like Superman. Flying is second nature. You can rocket up into the air, or you can simply lift off and hover a few feet above the ground.

When you rocket forwards, you can hear a sonic boom as you break the sound barrier. It's very very cool for about a half hour.

Unfortunately, then the actual game gets in the way.

It really has nothing to do with the movie from which it garners it's namesake. You have cutscenes interspaced throughout where you see Lex doing his thing from the movie, but never do any of the actual levels of gameplay ever even come CLOSE to anything Superman did in the movie. Most of the early portion of the game seems to be spent fighting off various attacks from Metallo.

I was hoping for a sort-of "Grand Theft Superman", given the promise of an open-ended Metropolis. Unfortunately, you don't get a city anywhere near as organic or "alive" as you do in the GTA games.

It's still probably the best console version of Superman produced, but it's disappointing in that it COULD have been a fantastic game. The makings are there for one.

Guys if you had even looked up about this game before u bought it, then you would realise that even tho it is a movie game, it isnt actually mainly based on the movie.

So if you are expecting to play the movie you will be dissapointed.

But, if you're gonna call a game Superman Returns, you'd better have some stuff in there from the actual Superman Returns. It would have been fun to save Lois' plane, to fight on that large Kyrptonian Island, but no. We're back to fighting silly robots.

I don't understand how you could have a Superman game and NOT have a showdown with LEX LUTHOR at some point. That's a crime, isn't it? :p

    Dissapointing. [face_not_talking]

I've been looking forward to this game for months, but to read this thread and find out that it's pretty **** shabba, well... it's dissapointing to say the least. Saying that, I'm still going to buy it.

Apprently though, the 360 version is top notch. So it can't be so much different from the PS2 version, just a few graphical changes.

I really like the superman returns video game. It was never meant to let you play through the movie. I like how all his powers are theree and it is great fun just to even fly around using super speed.

    ...i had the 360 version.

Honestly, if you can rent it from anywhere, i would recommend renting it. You WILL have fun with it for the first hour or so, until the thrill of flying starts to wear off.

The game is getting trashed critically and by players, but it's important to note that they REALLY did nail what it feels like to BE Superman.

Any Superman fan should at least rent the game once.

As a huge over the top superman fan I have to say I love the feeling of actualling being Superman, which is why I like the game.

True it doesn't follow the movie but if it did it would be very dull. because for Superman to fight lex luthor would go somthing like this: Splat-crunch!

Lex isn't excactly tough now is he? Personally I really enjoy the game but it does have some problems and I would recomend buying it unless your A) Superman fan (through and through) and
    B) If you can handle some glitchs and not perfect story line.

Honestly I don't care about the story line so long as I get to play as Superman and actually feel like its superman not some wimp that a machine can beat.
