We have unfortunately lost our previous thread for discussing the great Taylor Swift since the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl tonight But fear not, we now have this new, shiny thread to discuss Taylor and only Taylor without stupid football talk interfering! So let's celebrate the 14 time Grammy Award winner and 2023 Person of the year!
I'm not big on songs like Blank Space or Shake It Off, but I absolutely adore Wildest Dreams. It may be recency bias at play, but The Tortured Poets Department may actually be my second favourite.
I thought my daughter had her picture taken with Taylor once. It turned out it was just my other daughter.
I went to the Eras Tour. Had a great view and watched the whole thing, since I worked it as an EMT and didn't get dispatched to any calls the whole show. So I basically got paid to watch a Taylor Swift concert. That makes me a verified Swiftie, right?
That's nice. I, on the other hand, spent a lot of money to go to the Eras Tour. It was worth it though.
I honestly only heard my first Taylor Swift song this past weekend. I'd somehow not crossed paths with one (aside from snippets on adverts and such) all this time. In a world where she dominates I would have been steamrolled in Shelf of Shame on T Swift material.
My daughters went to one of her concerts. One of them sent me a picture of the two of them with the caption “Taylor!!!” Naturally I assumed that meant they had their picture taken with her. Give me a break I just glanced at it!
my favorite is Midnights. i like a bunch of her songs from her various albums, but Midnights is the album where i could jam through the whole thing without skipping a track.
I am entirely aware that her music is not the sort that will have anything at all to say to me but I respect the hell out of her influence on (particularly) young girls by showing them an artist who writes her own music and actually plays her instrument.
I’m going to pick 1989 mostly because it’s the only one I know off the top of my head. My music taste is so all over the place, but if you actually asked me to name a song by her outside of shake it off and 22 I could not but same goes for basically all major artists Kendrick not like us drake God’s plan that’s really all I got like I am sure I have listened to plenty of popular songs including Taylor’s on the radio but ask me to name them. Gun to my head I couldn’t.
Also picking 1989. The one song of hers I identify with is "Out of the Woods." For some reason I always think of it when work is particularly stressful. "Are we in the clear yet?" Also, I swear she wrote "Calm Down" specifically for MAGA and not just generic internet trolls. And that is probably the extent of my Taylor Swift knowledge/thoughts. My students have varying opinions on her. I once had an employee give me a 20 minute explanation of how deliberate all her words are. Honestly, I don't hate her stuff, but I don't listen to a lot of it either. If it comes on, I am less likely to skip it over other songs- but there are plent of songs she has I don't enjoy and would skip.
This is also where I'm at. Folklore is "better" and it was great that Taylor was playing "my" music, but 1989 brings me joy.
Midnights is my favorite, followed very closely by TTPD, then Folklore, Evermore, and Red (Taylor’s Version). I like all of them though. Currently wearing bracelets that say ‘The more that you say, the less I know.’
She makes a large donation to a food bank in every city where she tours. And she loves cats. I was listening to Reputation earlier today and look forward to Reputation (Taylor’s version) with vault tracks.
Speak now (I like hear earlier stuff better), then probably Midnights. My coworker calls me a Swiftie simply for not hating Taylor Swift.
