Their cover of Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" was pretty cool. And the librarian chick in the video for Head over Heels was quite delicious (at least when I was a kid I thought so).

Singing the Spandau Ballet Track 'true' in a Tears for Fears thread. [face_plain]

[mod] Tom, please don't derail your first post (and hence your thread) within your first post. If you don't want to talk about Tears for Fears, that's fine, just don't post here. And maybe don't start topics on them. [/mod]

    kthnxbye.

They were right then because I do too.

Are you sure your first post isn't a Spandau Ballet song?

I remember the one dude who used the fake orange tanning cream for the Sewing the Seeds of Love video. At that point, I could no longer take them seriously.

Oh wow, you guys like Spandau Ballet too? No, I want to talk about Tears for Fears, while singing Spandau Ballet. Sheesh.

Anyway yeah, they were like some twisted new wave, anthem rock, Barry Manilow hybrid, which made for a very unique sound.

Incidentally, when I was walking back to work I saw these two d00ds playing "frisbee golf" and one of them threw his frisbee in the river. It was kind of tragic, yet hilarious. I wouldn't have laughed actually, but these guys just took themselves so seriously. It was some kind of poetic justice.

Maybe the river was the goal. And that guy won. Now who's laughing? Huh?

    By (Orzabel/Bascombe)

[i]Chewed the bone down too low
Got fed on tea and sympathy
Blew the sail like the wind
I wish you were my enemy
    I was humble for you
What a fool I've been to have
Laid so low for so long
    Into that void of silence
    Where we cry without sound
    Where frisbees roll away
    Where frisbees roll away

    And where your mother's violence
    Sent your soul underground
    Where frisbees roll away
    Where frisbees roll away

Drew the blade way too slow
    Was shackled by your honesty
Made a mess, I guess I have should have known
That life was lust and liberty
Not a chance mutation or the last temptation
Laid so low for so long, so low
    Into that void of silence
    Where we cry without sound
    Where frisbees roll away
    Where frisbees roll away

    And where your mother's violence
    Sent your soul underground
    Where frisbees roll away
    Where frisbees roll away[/i]

Good point. But no, unless cursing as soon as you throw the frisbee, and then chasing it down the river still cursing is also part of the ritual, I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case.

Anyway, this thread is such a classic example of me being a complete idiot that I just have to share with you exactly how it went down....

So, I'm standing in line at the grocery store on my dinner break from work (just before seeing the frisbee guys), and they're playing that song "True". Only it's not even the real version, but some crappy muzack version. And I'm thinking to myself that it's really annoying and I know that the song is going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the night. Then I think, "Man, Tears for Fears, does anybody like these guys?" A bright idea... "I know, I'll start a thread at the JC!" I can't even begin to tell you how hard I laughed when I saw JP's post and realized that wasn't actually a Tears for Fears song. And then how I tried to pull it off...

"No, I want to talk about Tears for Fears, while singing Spandau Ballet."

    Uh huh, smooth.

And this, folks, is why I don't start discussion threads. Because I know absolutely nothing about anything.

    Thank you.

I remember from Pop Up Video that the two guys met in therapy and all their songs have to to do with it.

    Shout, Let it all out

    Woman in Chains

    Mad World

Everybody wants to rule the world

    just to name a few...

The album that has Shout, Head Over Heels and Everybody Wants to Rule the World is actually a great album. I dust it off and give it a listen occasionally. My favorite track is the Working Hour.

I used to work in a music store, and one time, this saucy Latin woman was wanting to buy a Spandau Ballet cd. How could a woman be so saucy, and still like Spandau Ballet? It blew my mind.

I like Tears for Fears though. When I was a kid, we thought the song "Shout" was about farting. These are the things I can do without

Shout it the only song I remember at the moment. I used to be a fan. I know I have a album lying around somewhere!

I like Songs from the Big Chair, but it's been awhile since I listened to it.

I remembered that cartoon, "Kid Video", that they showed Sat. mornings, and they had "shout" playing, and there waslike some wierd plant or something smashing things with a mallet. ok, only mentioned this since it had to do with "Shout".

They suck -- and they're horrible. They annoyed me enormously in the 80s, 90s and even the 00s.

That said, they did produce a good song, Tom. Check out Mad World by Gary Jules on the Donnie Darko soundtrack. It's quite beautiful.

That, sort of, redeems their existence. Almost.

Got it Casper. Thanks for the tip, that is a nice track. Love the simplicity, it reminds me of my childhood somehow, sort of a Carly Simon feel or something.

Well, if there's one thing posting this thread did do for me, it made me realize that I can't stand Tears for Fears or Spandau Ballet.
