In the Jedi Temple, there are many busts in the arhive hall. Do we know who these busts are of?

    1. Dooku
    2. yoda
    3. Chon Action

    Anyone else know names?

I do not know of any although I believe there was an issue of SW Insider a few months back that talked about the busts.

    Chon Action?

I believe there is one of Saesee Tiin aswell. There's been a few pictures of the busts on TOS at some time.

The busts in the Jedi Archives are of the Lost Twenty, the only Jedi to volontarily leave the Jedi Order. The serve to remind that there are some ideals higher than the Order can profess.

Exactly. Yoda and Saesee Tiin were never apart of the Lost Twenty.

Since the busts are of the Lost Twenty, and Yoda never left, then that can't be Yoda. It must be another of his species.

A monument to ideals higher than the ones presented in your temple? That's like filling a synagogue full of Nazi busts. Well, maybe not that extreme, but it certainly screams "SAVE YOUR WIFE BEFORE SAVING THE JEDI ORDER, BECAUSE YOUR WIFE IS AN IDEAL HIGHER THAN THE ORDER." If you honor people who left for something that they considered more noble, why didn't you follow them on this noble crusade? The Jedi Order were really foolish about some things.

The busts are NOT of the Lost 20. The busts are dedicated to the most powerful and famous Jedi Knights. Dooku has a bust dedicated to him because before he left the Order, he was a poweful and highly respected warrior.

He still was highly respected right up to Obi-Wan's discovery on Geonosis.

Dooku was respected because he did not leave, it appeared, through any failing in his moral system nor succumbed to the darkside.

    We know otherwise however ;)

If I remember correctly, I read in a few Star Wars Insiders that the busts were of Jedi that had either left or died. Before Episode II came out, I read somewhere that Obi-Wan was suppossed to be looking at a bust of Qui-Gon Jinn, his fallen Master as Jocasta Nu walks up to him to see what help he needs in finding Kamino.

In a more recent issue, Alethea McGrath who plays Jocasta Nu stated that the scene between her and Obi-Wan was to be longer and was to give more insight into Count Dooku's past. She was to explain that she and Dooku were very close before he left the Jedi Order. That scene was cut by Lucas as time was running short for filming that day? Now, I can't remember why it was cut ... But, I think that issue of Star Wars Insider was from last month or the last two months? Sorry I can't help more.

But, from what I've read and seen in the pictures, Dooku and Qui-Gon are suppossed to be there. I haven't watched Episode II for a month or so ... I can take another look if you want me to and try to find those mags. ;)

I found this picture of them filming the scene I think you are referring to. I had remembered hearing something similar to what you posted and seeing this picture. He's looking at a bust of Dooku, though - not Qui-Gon. I think Obi-Wan's observing that bust is what promted Jocasta Nu to tell her story.

More Dooku insights would have been great. With Maul, less is more. With Dooku, more is better.

That's the picture I was looking for last night! I thought the caption for the picture I had said it was Qui-Gon but I guess I was wrong. Also, it's been awhile since I've seen that picture and it does look like Dooku and not Jinn. ;)

You wouldn't happen to have any other pictures of the Temple Library with the busts, would you? I can't find where I stashed all my Star wars Insiders! :(

sith_rising - More Dooku insights would have been great. With Maul, less is more.

With less information about Maul, it kept him mysterious to audiences and gave him that extra "somethingoranother" that makes a good bad guy. With Dooku, I wanted to know "why" he had turned to the Dark Side, but his story is in a few books (Jedi Apprentice series?), so I've got at least "part" of his background. ;)

I like that Maul is simple. He is raised and trained by a pure Sith, to be a pure Sith. We know his motivations from the start: he is evil, a pupil of Satan himself, and waits for the day that his master will unleash him on the Jedi. Dooku is a complex character. I always wonder which events were set in motion that lead to him walking the Dark Path.

Did he leave the Order before or after Qui-Gon's death? Did he originally join the Sith in order to destory them, in retaliation for his pupil's death? Once he became a Sith, did he hold more respect for Darth Maul or Qui-Gon? Did he still sympathize with the Jedi, seeing as how he was one for so long (keep in mind, he never really shows the kind of hatred that Vader, Maul and Sidious have for them)? Did Sidious seek him out, or was it the other way around? How does an ex-Jedi, raised in a ascetic-monastic-warrior lifestyle, become a wealthy land-owning aristocrat? Did Nute Gunray really ask him for help after the Naboo incident? Did he really want to recruit Obi-Wan to be his apprentice? How did he lay the groundwork for the Seperatist movement to the other guilds, federations, clans and alliances?

His backstory is probably more interesting than any other Star Wars character. I'm sure all of the above is explained in the EU, but I prefer not to read it. He's cooler this way. I'm sure many people regret having everything about Boba Fett being handed to them on a plate, when he was much more awesome in 1980.

Ya know, I haven't sat down and read a lot of EU stuff over the past year or so. I only recently finished the Jedi Apprentice books and in one of the Special Editions, there are cross-stories of the different Master/Padawan teams and in one of them, it talks about Dooku's Padawan training or something like that. It basicallys states how he first became exposed to the Dark Side via an old Sith/Jedi Holocron. Pretty interesting and I may have to re-read that. I'm not sure if the Clone Wars novels touch upon his history or not.

As far as Maul goes, there's the novel Darth Maul: Shadown Hunter, but again, I haven't had the chance to actually sit down and read it. [face_plain]

I personally don't mind knowing a characters background or history. It helps me to better connect to or understand who they are and why they do what they do. ;)

On a related note - if you are ever in Dublin be sure to see the Trinity College Library. The reason will become clear here.

Just doing a quick Google search turned up the one above, as well as this one - but I'm afraid decent images of the busts are hard to come by (though I suppose freeze-framing the DVD is an option).

I saw a pic recently - I think it was in the travel section of one of the weekend papers. This thread reminded me of it so I went and found an online pic. I have never been to it but the resemblence is too uncanny to ignore. I am pretty sure that scenes of the library are CGI'd but I would bet this was the source for the library.

No new information, but I just wanted to note that the caption on that basically reads, "In the library archives of the Jedi Temple, Jocasta Nu (played by Alethea McGrath) pauses in front of the bust of Count Dooku and relates his story to the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor)." (though it's not that hard to figure out :p)

    Anyway, awesome stuff LAJ.

The temple scene should be restored in which Nu explains a little about Dooku to the final version of AOTC.
