    Hello. :)

Not sure if this has been posted already.

    Tennis Shoe in Space

    [image=http://www.sgtfretsurfer.com/Grilled-Sarlacc/shoe.jpg]

"In a shot with (several) elements, you can get away with inserting some personal humor. I've put wads of gum in some shots. This tennis shoe here is in the space battle scene. Even though no one can really see these things I know they're there. In Empire there's a potato in the asteroid sequence."

It looks more like a funky slipper. Thanks, G-S.

Great find, but I'm not sure that's the shoe. The tennis shoe is in the Return of the Jedi (where, I don't know). The potato is in ESB. Also, that picture was a production photo which was composited so that it could be used in books and magazines. Then again, I could be TOTALLY wrong. It certainly does look like a slipper. If it is the shoe, then that's some great detective work.

Heh, doesn't really even look much like a shoe. :p

According to Insider #67, there's one in the battle of Endor, too.

It doesn't look like anything. Not to mention that the quote states that the tennis shoe is in the "space battle" and a potato is in the asteroid chase. Since the quote is from '83, I'd assert that D.Muren is referring to the ROTJ space battle, not the ESB asteroid chase, like this topic suggests.

That doesn't appear to be a shoe to me, but more so something an elve would wear if anything resembling a shoe.

I do not like Elven Steriotypes! Elves are not little jolly men that help Santa, and they are not shoe makers... Elves are an elegent Forest people, with sleek sharp fetures. Read any fantasy novel you Elf Racist!

Anyway... It is said that the Tennis Shoe in RotJ, is so far in the backround of the battle, that it is IMPOSABLE to see....

A wesbite I found said the tennis shoe is actually one of the very first asteroids we see once Han and Chewie return to the cockpit. It comes from lower-left and quickly passes to the upper-right corner. I checked, and sure enough, there it was. Needless to say, you have to watch it in slow-motion.

and they are not shoe makers

They certianly do not make shoes. Elves make cookies. They use their Elf magic to make cookies.

    I don't think that . . . thing . . . is a shoe.

I don't know what it is, but it's not shaped like the other objects in the asteroid field, so that's a tip-off.

I heard they used styrofoam plates (or was it cups) in ROTJ to show the shield generator exploding.

It always makes me hungry for BBQ.

As I recall, that's one of the pre-production paintings done by Ralph McQuarrie and not an actual frame of the film.

Even then, the shoe is in the space battle over Endor in ROTJ, the potato is somewhere in the Hoth asteroid belt in ESB.

Pixies have wings. Keeblers are Elves. Elves are nothing but cartoonish insignifigant silly little people. ;)

That picture doesn't look like a Ralph McQuarrie to me.

And just what is the "standard" for asteroid shapes these days? ;)

There is a Rebel ship that looks kind of like a shoe in the Battle of Endor. It's onscreen moments after an interior shot of the Falcon. You hear someone say "pressure steady" then it cuts to an exterior shot in which the "shoe" appears. Don't know if that's it, but I've always assumed that ship to be the shoe.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but the tennis shoe isn't in TESB.

I thought that the potato was in TESB and the tennis shoe was in the ROTJ Endor battle.

I'm pretty darn sure I'm right on that.

Anyways, G-S, that's not even an actual fram of the film- it's a painting. :)

There is a tennis shoe in ESB. I found a website that said so and provided screencaps.

It's in the shot following Han and Chewie returning to the cockpit. It travels by the cockpit moving from lower left to upper right. Nearly impossible to tell while watching, but in slow-motion, it's pretty convincing that it is a tennis shoe. I checked my copy, and I can certainly see a shoe.
