Terminator series not in feb, first two episodes were earlier this week in some parts of the world. ;)

I literally just finished watching the second episodes mere moments ago, and saw the original screener of the pilot several months back. I was just coming to start a thread about it, now that the series has started. Perhaps some kind, Administrative soul could take this thread and change its name to "Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles", and make it an official discussion thread like the Heroes one? Rules will be the same: all spoilers blacked out on pain of death.

And so, anticipating an official thread, I thought I'd give my thoughts on the series so far.

I'm a big Terminator fan. T2 is hands-down one of the best action movies ever made, the original is pretty damn good too, and both were ridiculously revolutionary when they were released. Terminator 3 is disappointing, but it's one of those bad movies that has gems of brilliance sprinkled through it. We've got a second trilogy coming, with currently the only positive aspect the casting of Christian Bale as John Conner. Unfortunately, it's more than likely the films will suck badly. Thankfully, history is not static in the Terminator universe, so what would happen if we could just merrily skip to a different history, one where Sarah Conner doesn't die of leukaemia in 1997 and where Ah-nuld isn't big, fat and old?

The Sarah Conner Chronicles, that's what. When I first heard that a TV series was being made, I was dubious. How could the epic Terminator formula work in an episodic medium? If anything, I would have preferred a miniseries to an actual series. That fits the style better, right? A Terminator comes back through time, kills a bunch of dudes, tries to kill someone who either has or will have (in Claire Danes's character's case) the surname of "Conner", then gets blown the hell up in a messy, satisfying way. Short, brutal, but very true to life. But it's been done. How would Terminator work as a "long game", where things were drawn out, where our heroes were never safe, where the real bummer of a downside of having time travelling enemies from the future who can show up anywhere and anywhen really rears its head? Suffice it to say that while the TV series needs to take some time to prove that it can fill the big shoes it's chosen out, all indications are that it's off to a good start.

When I first saw the pilot a few months back, I was immediately impressed. It was a little rough around the edges (and most of that roughness has actually been smoothed off in the tweaks made to the broadcast version, I should add), but it had some great ideas, a neat twist/hook to get us into the series proper, and it was unbelievably faithful to the Terminator mythos, dragging out minor story points, logical consequences and unexpected characters all over the damn place. Being a total nerd, the continuity is what impressed me the most. :p (I'm fighting tooth and nail the urge to sit down with the butcher's paper and try to draw out some alternate timelines. Perhaps having an official thread isn't a good thing. Rememember what happened in the Heroes thread...? [face_hypnotized])

So the pilot was followed by the actual premiere, which was basically the pilot with a better soundtrack, some tighter editing, and a couple of added scenes which actually really add to the show in some very subtle but meaningful ways. That then is followed by episode 2, which, despite dragging in places, almost by necessity, is a solid continuation (and indeed second kickoff, after the plot twist at the end of the first episode). My basic, spoiler-free verdict is this: it still has a little way to go to prove itself, but it shows great promise and is far truer to the Terminator mythos than T3 was. If you're a Terminator fan who knows his or her stuff, I think you'll get a lot out of it, and I really hope the show's momentum continues to build. And let me also remind you of this: Summer Glau runs over a Terminator, then opens the door of her car and says to John (and ind

Sammich, I can give you copies of the first two episodes on Sunday if you don't already have them.

Could an official of some sort rename this thread please?

Recaps? Fine, more work for me :p Too late to start them now, but I'll work on them over the weekend. I should really wrap up Heroes and Doctor Who as well at some point...

Oh, can I have an Official Title too please oh authorised ones? [face_dancing]

    Be seeing you,

    Magnus Darcrider

Finally got a chance to sit down and watch the first 2 Episodes (though, one was via my iPod). I really enjoyed it - much, much more than I was expecting. It's so obvious that everyone behind this is a huge Terminator 2 fan (isn't everyone?). Nice twists and turns in the story and the production actually looks like they spent some good money on it.

Completely agree. I was very dubious about the idea of a tv series going in, but I was highly impressed by what they've managed so far. Another couple of episodes like this and I'll be sold.

Was going to. And still do with a lot of the shows I like to watch. I still work on dial up so don't have too much choice mostly, but hey, it was there, I watched :)

And will possibly not get to see too much more early so WILL have to wait for the tv.

Japan won't get this until at least Season 2 or 3 has been aired in the States (Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 has just started here  ). I've waited with Heroes and Lost but it really sucks when you talk to someone you know and they spoil something you haven't seen on one of your favourite shows.

    I'm not waiting anymore. ;)

Why wait though? We get it without ads as the same time as a large proportion of the world. This is how it should be.

well I am unsure why I am posting this here as you lot have all seen at least the first few eps but I saw a new add for said show and it looks ok but I am going into this one a little weary, I am sick of having high expectations and then shows/movies not living up to them
I have decided to go into this series with the lowest expectations possible so if it turns out good I will be stoked
