In the latest Set Diary, make sure you have a Hyperspace account. Basically it says regarding the matter that before the Episode III digital shots were turned over to Rob Coleman and his team, replacing the puppet footage from Episode I with a CGI Test model, as a Test animation, which will be available for viewing on the ROTS DVD.

I don't know about you guys, but that might just have bursted your bubble when it came to the chance of the horrible Episode 1 puppet replacement.

Yeah, we always knew it was just a test. Nice to see it confirmed to be on the ROTS dvd.

Now, this is what I'm thinking. The CG will be about as good as it is in ROTS. The work is done. CG Yoda is in TPM. Now why wouldn't they put it in the actual film next release?? Maybe Lucas was trying to kill two birds with one stone--have Coleman's team warm up for ROTS and redo the horrible TPM puppet for the next release (which would be pretty easy since he just sits in a chair and yaps).

But it still did not say that this wasn't already or will not be done for a future TPM DVD, read the Making of ROTS book and combine it with this newest info. It could go either way.

You make it sound as if they arent going to do it in 07'? I mean they have the prototype now, by 07' they might decide to go ahead and finish what they started.:D

The set diary talks about the Episode 1 Yoda replacement as though it is going to be inserted/has already been inserted into TPM - I think the test animation is on the ROTS dvd to wet our appetites for the CG TPM Yoda which will hopefully be included in the PT Boxset coming out on December 5th. What was said in this set diary is pretty much the same as what was said in the "Making Of ROTS" book.

Hyperspace members get a chance to see an actual shot of the replacement in the picture gallery in the set diary.

It's a total replace of the puppet Yoda with the digital Yoda. Great shot!

It's not but if you check amazon.co.uk, sendit.com, play.com, dvd.co.uk and enter Star Wars Trilogy you'll see the advertisement for Star Wars Trilogy 1-3. I think they've only got the release date so far, it says image coming soon.

Sorry Wester, but the TPM Yoda was completely replaced by a CG one. It is not false.

However, as I have always stated, it may or may not make it to the public. Don't know why it wouldn't. I was told it wasn't just as a test, but as an actual change to the film.

EVeryone, go to zonadvd.com. They have a side by side comparison of the puppet and the digital model.

    The difference is startling.

Type in Star Wars in the search bar and the first article link shows the comparison.

Yeah, we definitely need that new transfer along with this replacement for Episode I. But when is the question.

Well IMO, the fact that they're choosing to show us this shot/the replacement work now and on the ROTS DVD is a sign that they're planning an updated TPM release soon. They're wetting our appetites for either a PT Boxset or an updated TPM by itself. I doubt they'd show us this now if we weren't gonna be able to get an updated TPM until 2007! My guess/HOPE is that we'll get TPM with this new Yoda and possibly a new transfer with the next TPM release, which should be a PT Boxset release, apparently coming out in December. I don't mind, so much, if we have to wait until Summer next year for this but making us wait until 2007 is just cruel!

Well the problem with that release idea is that if they do release the Prequel Box Set sometime by the end of the year, the sales of the Episode III DVD will suffer.

If they're going to do it, they need to do it on the same day with Episode III.

As anti-Yoda as a CGI as I am. I have to admit the zonadvd.com screen shot looks pretty impressive. Let's hope thay get it THAT good in AOTC and ROTS. 'cause I don't like the look of Yoda. He looks nothing like ESB or ROTJ. And to me he bares little similarity to them.

Not neccessarily, if they released it the same day as ROTS then ROTS sales would suffer. According to amazon.co.uk etc release date for the PT Boxset, ROTS will have just over a month to sell on its own, without any other Star Wars competition. Besides if they announce the PT Boxset before ROTS comes out on DVD then consumers will have the choice - buy ROTS or wait for the Boxset. Lucasfilm are always thinking £££ so by releasing ROTS and then releasing a Boxset with an updated TPM they've a better chance of maximising sales of both products. Fans who have no patience will buy ROTS immediately and then maybe buy the PT Boxset purely for updated TPM.

NO NO NO!!! I strongly disagree with you there. Keep the puppet in ESB and ROTJ.

We'll just have to wait and see. I just don't see it happening but again, why would they tease us with this picture of the Digital Yoda?

    Very odd indeed.

    Wow.

That TPM digital Yoda looks....simply amazing. Wow.

I am now utterly convinced that this will be in the next release of TPM. And thank god!!

This actually is making me warm up to the idea of CG Yoda in ESB and ROTJ, if it is as good as that. I still think they should update the AOTC Yoda model with the new one (AOTC CG Yoda wasnt very convincing--the new ROTS one is incredible though).

    EDIT

did you also notice that the whole chair has been replaced with a CG one as well?! Amazing.

Agreed! As much as I support changes to the OT, I think replacing the puppet would not be that good of an idea. Yet, it would be interesting to see. But, changing it for TPM is a smart move....
