Pardon, if this has been brought forth before, but I have always found it hilarious when C3PO greets Han, before getting into the Falcon, for Alderaan. Just look at Harrison?s facial expression. Makes me wonder whether this was part of the script or just improvisation?

The look Han gives maybe was supposed to be a mix of amusement and ridicule of C3PO. [face_laugh] (for reasons to me may not be advisable to be mentioned on this site ;))

    What do you think?

I believe a lot of people in the Star Wars world, and more so for those people like Han Solo, do not like Driods. Like the people in the Cantina.
Han had no use for a droid, he probally doesn't really trust them either. How can you complete trush someone that can be programed to turn on you or tell on you

But Han cares about the Falcon? That's a machine, right?

Han never really has no respect for droids, its obvious in the way he treats Threepio through out the trilogy. He was probably thinking to himself as Threepio greeted him "God I hate robots...".

It's also amusing to note in the same scene, Obi-Wan's amused glance at the Falcon when Han brags about his "special modifications". Veering off-topic with Obi-Wan a bit, but I also think it's cool how, the first time Obi-Wan is in the Falcon's cockpit, his eyes dart all over the control panels as though he's an experienced pilot himself. It's subtle, but it's greatly compatible with Obi-Wan's piloting and hyperdrive-repair knowledge as seen in the PT. Anyway, if Alec Guinness thought of all those expressions to make his character seem experienced in the universe (and he probably did think of them since Lucas' direction is usually just "faster, more intense"), it's just another sign of his genius as an actor. Damn he was good.

Han does tell the Ewoks in regards to C3PO. "He's an old friend of mine" of course that was just to save his own skin. Han obviously cares a little bit about those droids. He does go back for C3PO after he's almost left behind on Hoth.

In ROTJ, when R2 is coming to the bunker, Han says to him "C'mon, c'mon!".

So, there you have a little interaction.

And despite all his rude manners, I think Han in some way became fond of C-3PO. In Hoth, he saves him actually twice: when he grabs the droid and prevent him for falling, and when he opens the door and grab him inside. Of course, Han usually got upset with C-3PO's speech and manners, but, that was his temper, not his feelings, I think.

And according to ROTJ novel (I know, EU), Solo was the one who repaired R2 in Endor.

Han was also impressed when Threepio isolated the Falcon's problem in ESB.

I think Han has more respect for Artoo, though. He even wonders what the robot is carrying.

"I'm not really interested in your opinion, Threepio..."

Han's manners toward Threepio crack me up.

"Not entirely stable??? Gee, I'm glad you're here to tell us these things...Chewie...take the professor in the back and plug him into the hyperdrive."

The whole Han/Threepio relationship in TESB is wonderful (and really the sole source of humor). I thought something similiar could have been done between Obi-Wan and Jar Jar in AOTC (ya know, like Binks accompanies Kenboi to Kamino or something), but alas, the Gungan become a more of a background character.

I think that Han...despite his actions...his comments...etc...has respect for Threepio as the Trilogy progesses. It just wouldn't be in his character to be nicey-nice with a droid...much-less anyone else for that matter. Sure, he gives him a somewhat dirty look when they first meet...and he berates him aboard the Falcon (probably due to the fact that he can't figure a damn thing out...and a droid figures it out instantaneously)...but if you look at his expression when Chewie brings the busted Threepio before him and Leia, he looks genuinely concerned. Same with the beginnings of the Battle of Endor, when Threepio provides the distraction to the Imperials. He looks concerned.

And...if you notice...Threepio manages to "one-up" Han over and over again throughout the Trilogy. I think that garners both ire...and respect...from Han's perspective.

Obi and Jar Jar doing that wouldn't really work as by the time of Aotc Obi is the perfect well mannered jedi knight not the brash young Padiwan he was in TPM(I think the "if they find us, they crush us and grind us into tiny little pieces and smash us into obilivion" was the funniest line in the prequels) And even then their relationship was different then Han and 3P0's

Sure it would. Hell, it's Jar Jar we're talking about here; he could even make Yoda lose his cool. ;)

I love the engagement Han has with threepio especially in ESB. Treats him like crap however I think deep inside he likes threepio.

TPM Obi-Wan also called Jar Jar a pathetic lifeform, behind his back. That's not too funny though, since it's behind his back and comes off a bit mean-spirited.

Han's relationship with 3PO is definitely some of my favorite lines in ESB.

...but if you look at his expression when Chewie brings the busted Threepio before him and Leia, he looks genuinely concerned. Same with the beginnings of the Battle of Endor, when Threepio provides the distraction to the Imperials. He looks concerned.

I dunno about that. When Lando asks Han if they are having problems with their droid Han acts liek he doesnt know what hes talking about, implying that finally there is nothing wrong with 3PO!

Naw, I think that was more along the lines of not wanting Lando to continue to impress Leia with his abilities and access of Cloud City.

I completely disagree. Prior to Lando coming in the room, Han first had a look of concern on his face...and then he was suggesting to Leia that Lando had "people who can fix him"...implying that he wanted to have him fixed. He only said that smart-ass remark...and took that tone...to stop Lando from flirting with his woman. ;)

Though I find the thought of Han being relieved that Threepio was "whacked" to be funny...it just isn't the case. :)
