    The trailer.

It's an alien invasion movie with a twist: humans are the ones invading.

It seems that in the distant future, the Earth is dead and mankind has taken to the stars. However, unlike Pixar's much more optimistic Wall-E, in this film, we humans are nearing extinction. And instead of trying to reboot the planet, we decide to find another one.
    We succeed.....only it's already inhabited.

    And thus, war begins.

    Your thoughts?

Perhaps that's because terra is the Latin word for 'earth', from whence tierra. That would, after all, be the point of that movie's title.

Is it really a twist, though? It's still the 'bad guys' that are invading. It's not like they're trying, at all, to make the humans look decent. They're just automatically villainous and evil, while the other, innocent 'good guys' are cute and cuddly.

Maybe if it were a little less biased it would raise deep questions, but my guess is that it's just going to be black and white, what the humans are doing is wrong, and they can all live together after all in the end, you know, after they get rid if the one crazy guy who was the only one bent on war in the first place.

Never heard of it before now, but that trailer made me think it's something I could take my older 2 kids to (8 & 6). Might provoke a bit of thought too. Moreso than most disney or dreamworks animated movies these days.

Hasn't that been done with nearly every movie that shows aliens invading Earth? Independence Day, The War of the Worlds, etc? I don't recall a movie with the invading aliens not being bad guys. If you can think of a few, do let me know. I might watch them.

    EDIT: I just noticed. 1:52: "IT'S A TRAP" :p

But I also think it's fairly obvious that there's going to be a sympathetic human who learns what they're doing is wrong and teaches the other humans the error of their ways, at which point humanity will repent and the aliens will let them move in anyway. Which means this film is essentially a sci-fi version of Ferngully: The Last Rainforest. Actually it's kinda similar to WALL-E, too.

Personally, I'd like to one of these days see a movie where the aliens are the ONLY sympathetic characters and every human character is a clear bad guy from start to finish. THAT would be interesting, because it would be an actual inversion of things, instead of "Look, sympathetic aliens! Just ignore the part about how no matter what atrocities the human characters commit, they still deserve to come out on top in the end because, you know, they're humans."

Animal movies are often like that.

I liked WALL-E and Titan A.E. better. This seems pretty contrived even for a kid's movie.

I'm also over the 3-D stuff.

Although I'm less bothered by the presumption of human superiority to the other animals on this planet than of superiority to any alien race we might encounter.

That was one of the coolest parts about Starcraft. With few exceptions like Jim Raynor, the human race was basically worthless and inferior compared to the Protoss.

I mean, I don't have anything in particular against the human race. I just get tired of human chauvinism in Sci-Fi every now and then.

You've never heard the phrase "Terra Firma"? It's even used in Smash Bros. Brawl, and it was a Delerium song used in the first Tomb Raider movie (IIRC), and the same song's also used in this awesome fanmade Children of Dune video.

    EDIT:

Or were you not being sarcastic? :p

Anyway, the premise kind of reminds me of Ender's Game.

I was thinking Ender's Game too but not so much after watching it.

It looks like a video game that they are trying to stretch into a movie.
I predict it will fail pretty quick at the box office.

The aliens are too cute for the older kids, and the 'attacking the cute aliens' won't go over with the young ones, so that leaves the animation fans, and the animation just doesn't look like anything more than a video game.

I saw it when I worked a test screening of it last year. It's basically 'The Clone Wars'...minus being a Star Wars brand.
