    UFO spotted above Chernobal Reactor

I believe that the UFO intervened and prevented this from becoming a bigger mess than what it turned out to be.

I have also heard that UFO's have been spotted near the scenes of other disasters, possibly trying to intervene.

What do you think about all this?

By the way try to keep the debate of Alien life existanse low, I don't want this to turn into a heated discussion where someone gets insulted based on their views.

Chernobyl could not have turned into a massive nuclear blast because the fuel rods would not have been able to do that. In fact, the design of any nuclear reactor prevents that from happening.

Nuclear reactors operate by using a nuclear reaction to heat water into steam (which heats other, non-radioactive water into steam), then using the steam to turn turbines. In a case like Chernobyl, the reactor began a meltdown (an uncontrolled increase in temperature). This cased more of he water to convert to steam and increased the pressure in the reactor.

Eventually, the reactor would explode because of the steam pressure inside being stronger than the containment vessel.

A nuclear explosion, on the other hand, causes the fuel itself to explode by forcing it into a critical mass. The rods in a reactor are not dense enough to reach that critical mass.

The UFO theory sounds pretty far-fetched to me.

Every photo I've ever seen of a UFO has always looked fuzzy to me.

no, it's true. i understand that mulder and scully helped evacuate some of the russians from chernobyl to kiev back in 1986 before they could be debriefed by soviet intelligence. none of the workers wanted to talk, though. they kept mentioning a mysterious "Smoking Man."

Doubtful. The Cherbobyl disaster was about as bad as it could have gotten - the only worse thing that could have happened was that the other reactors melted down, and why would UFO's want to stop a nuclear meltdown that was caused by serious and stupid human error?

Because that meltdown convinced people that nuclear reactors were unsafe, led them to refuse to fund newer, safer nuclear reactors, and forced the old and unsafe ones to continue operating?

Meh. I'm just in a weird mood today.

Anyway, if Chernobyl wasn't a worst-case scenario in your opinion, what would have been?

With all due respect, anyone close enough to see a UFO hovering over Chernobyl when it exploded probably would have been dead of radiation poisining in a few days...

    Just a thought.

If aliens really do try to help disasters, they're not doing a good job of it.

And no, I doubt it was a UFO above Chernobyl.

If there were all powerful aliens above Chernobyl, why the hell didn't they just stop it in the first place?? Why only do half of the job when you could do it all and take the credit for it??

Nuclear reactors are not dangerous in themselves. Only human error causes the accidents.
