    When the series comes out on DVD, because of the movie, won't these be in 2.35:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Digital 5.1?

    Yes, the season 1 box set will most likely be in 2.40:1 (like the movie) and have 5.1 sound.

    The release in March (of just the 4 episodes) I'm not sure. If I had to guess, it will probably be in the broadcast ratio of 1.78:1, but it could go either way on the audio. My guess is that it would have a 5.1 and a 2.0 mix, but we'll have to wait and see.

    While I am looking forward to the 2.40:1 Aspect, having just four episodes on the first release isn't worth it to me. I'm gonna hold out for a full season release.

    Plus I pretty have all the episodes DVR'd in HD. My only real reason for getting the DVDs is to get to see the episodes without the commercials breaks and the seriously intrusive bugs on the screen from Cartoon Network.

    What Lucas needs to do is release the complete Ewoks and Droids cartoon series and make it available for the fans. Thats what they need to do

    What they do with the new Doctor Who series is volumes throughout the year in the show's widescreen format and stereo sound, then a full season boxset at the end with 5.1 audio along with the widescreen.

    Well, considering most shows these days are filmed in a widescreen format, it would make sense for any and all releases to be in that widescreen format.

    Isn't The Clone Wars the first series to be shot in 2.35:1?

    It would be the first that I could recall. I guess these shows are "rendered" as opposed to filmed or shot.

    Considering that shows really have only been HD and therefore widescreen (1.66:1) for just the past few years, I can't imagine too many shows thinking about going wider. I'm just surprised that its airing in 1.66 and not 2.40. I guess that Lucas figures that in the long run with very large widescreen TV becoming cheaper this type of productions will be greater valued.

    No, the reason it's not shown in 2.40:1 is because there would be some extra unsued space at the top and bottom of the screen...heaven forbid there are any black bars.

    Example:
    Here is a screenshot from the Clone Wars movie, as it would display on a widescreen television:
    [image=http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/darth_grievous1/Snapshot003.jpg]

    Now, here's what this shot would look like in the broadcast frame of 1.78:1
    [image=http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/darth_grievous1/Snapshot003_MAR.jpg]

    As you can see, there is a good deal missing from the left side of the screen. Empty space, not really needed, right? Well, let's look at another shot:

    Original:
    [image=http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/darth_grievous1/Snapshot002-1.jpg]

    Broadcast frame (I had to mess with the brightness to locate the top of the letterbox):
    [image=http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/darth_grievous1/Snapshot002_MAR.jpg]

    It is unlikely in the foreseeable future that TVs will go any wider than 1.78:1, and as long as there are those people who want their entire screens filled (because black bars are EVIL!) Clone Wars probably won't get broadcast in its OAR, and TV shows won't go wider.

    It is aired in quote/unquote widescreen. I know when I watch it, it is.

    Wow, that's the first I've heard of the impending dvd release. I actually might skip it myself. Unless they're planning on doing them all piecemeal this way??

    I really look forward to watching these the way they were intended. Seeing the preview clips on the movie release has been pretty enticing in that regard.

    Crossing my fingers that a full season release is on the horizon!

    The OS has implied that there will be an entire Season 1 set later on this year, so that lowers the odds of anyone actually springing for the four-episode set.

    Especially because when it's really only been a few months since we've seen those episodes. [face_laugh]

    Now that it looks as if the number of episodes in the season won't be divisible by 4, can we assume that the last two individual DVDs will only have 3 episodes, in typical GITS fashion?[face_monkey]

    I never care for the aspect ratio and such. Have no clue what it is, lol. I just watch Star Wars whatever ratio it is in.

    The aspect ratio of...anything, is the ratio of width-to-height. For example, something with an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 (standard full-frame) is 1.33 units in width for every 1 unit in height. Something with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio (also called "scope") is 2.35 units wide for every 1 unit in height. The larger the number before the colon, the wider the image is. Most (if not all) TV shows are broadcast in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio. This is the standard aspect ratio on all widescreen televisions. The Clone Wars (based on previews and the movie) is animated for a 2.35:1 (or 2.40:1, but it's close) aspect ratio and the sides are cropped off for the 1.78:1 aspect ratio it's being broadcast in (see my previous post for screenshots). Technically it IS aired in widescreen, but in a modified aspect ratio.

    Hope this helps :)

    Amazon has a picture of the back cover for this release and it states that this is a "Standard Version" representing the original television broadcast. Seems like this would indicate that it will be 1.78:1. I'm crossing my fingers that the full season boxset is in the full 2.35:1 ratio or at least they have some option.

    Hi

    Not sure if this is any indication of the actual single dvd - but I picked up a UK HMV exclusive preview episode dvd last week. It contains just 1 episode Downfall of a droid, it has no menus or extras
    It's presented in 2.0 stereo, and 1.78:1 wiescreen

    I'm waiting for the blu-ray box set, which hopefully will be released at the same time.
