Still, Opress is a much more complicated villain than he seemed at first sight. Also, I'm very happy Dunlevy is directing this episode. He's done some pretty good ones.

Great preview. I love these kind of conversations, concerning movie events.

    Devaron, eh? Interesting.

Am I the only one who sees a big contradiction here?:

Talzin: "Perhaps a male from our planet will be more to your liking, since you could not tame the female."

Talzin: "I warn you, men are easy to ecquire, hard to control."

So... the males are easier to tame... but... harder to control? Why is it that we seem to pay much more attention to this than the folks writing this?

What a great fortune cookie. For a long time I've felt like they were just re-hashing old ones, or even using real-life sayings. (A failure to plan is a plan for failure. )

Anyway, the episode sounds great. I like the sound of a Frankenstein-style approach to Opress. We've seen totally evil villains (Palpatine), tragic villains (Vader), but never one that was really good but under the influence of a greater evil. I'm glad Savage isn't going to be another mustache-twirling villain with no dimension to him.

I do agree that the names are terrible, though. I can just imaging the conversation when they were being named.

    - We'll name him Maul, and him Savage Opress.
    - What about that one?
    - Meh, we'll just call him Feral. :p

I was serious. It's original, not the billionth one about truth. The message is also poignant. It's probably my favorite one so far.

It's starting to look like "Maul" was his birth name, which is ridiculous for a Sith. Surely "Darth Maul" was a Sith name that he acquired once Sidious trained him. But then if the names of his kin are things like Savage and Feral, it's just ludicrous to imagine what his birthname was.

Sidious: "A Sith needs a name that will inspire fear in his enemies. Henceforth, you shall no longer be called Jugulator, but Darth Maul".

Maul: "Actually, sir, I think my original name was more fearsome".

    Sidious: "Quiet, Jugulator!" *applies lightning*

Anybody got any idea who Knox is? Is he a Clone Commander or the Nautolan Padawan of Halsey?

If he's the Clone Commander, I would be more concerned if he does or doesn't say a word.

I think he might be the Padawan.

They usually put "Clone Commander ___" or "Clone Captain ___" etc etc

Anyway really excited for this one. Episode title is sweet and to the point. I'm really interested in seeing the dark side training.

Brother Viscous is awesome, but Gry wins with Jugulator!!!

I know JasonW says the first episode is the worst but this episode guide isn't helping.

Great fortune cookie for once though.

    Darth Phlegmatic! [face_laugh]

I think perhaps the difference between taming and controlling would be more like training. Yes, you can train him to follow you, to learn, to obey, like a pet. But eventually, he's still a living being, and he's going to have ideas of his own. Like if you wanted to tame a wild beast, it would still have the heart and desires of a wild animal. Not that I know much about this, just giving my two cents. :p

Savage sounds interesting. The fact that he is voiced by Clancy Brown is already half the battle won for me. :D

Talzin: I shall show you to our most RUTHLESS of warriors, Count!
Dooku: How ruthless could he possibly- (they see Savage answering a phone call)
Savage: (to quote Mister Krabs) Donate to the CHILDREN'S FUND?! WHY? What've the children ever done for ME? (slams phone down)
    Dooku: ...Wow, man. Just wow.

Agreed... that makes no sense at all. No matter which way you twist and turn to explain this paradox, it does not make sense period.

Well...taming a male gets him to do as you say...controlling a male gets him to do what you want without him knowing you're making him. After all, what is control if not a form of manipulation?

You're just toying with words now...

    Taming = acquiring control
    Controlling = exercising control

How can controlling be harder than taming?

Think about it: a wild animal is hard to control because it hasn't been tamed yet.

How can something that is easy to tame, be hard to control?

    It. does. not. make. sense.

Come on.. when has Star Wars ever really made sense? If you watch Star Wars for the brilliant dialogue or acting then you have the wrong movie.

Han Solo "The ship that made the kessel run in less than twelve parsecs."

The whole Obi-Wan telling Luke that Vader killed his father and revealing only one side of the truth.

Perhaps it is just Talzin just trying to find a way to win Dooku over to choosing the correct assassin.

Or, you know, perhaps it's just bad writing.

To be honest, I don't even know why I included the word 'perhaps' in that sentence.

If Talzin's 'just trying to win Dooku over', she'd better make some sense. The good count is not a fool.

    It's bad writing.

So I was thinking about this and I wonder if Mother Talzin is making a distinction being training and obedience.
-Females may be easier to train in the ways of the Dark Side and the lightsaber, but more difficult to maintain as an obedient servant ("tame" is the word she used).
-Males may be more difficult to control in their training, but more loyal in the long run.

Or Katie Lucas just contradicted herself in her writing, who knows...
