"What do you mean? Cut off?" The man brushed his beard and looked at the young Bothan over the green glowing hologram of the Taraxes-System. His hand touched his lightsaber. Even after all these years it had a calming effect on the Jedi Master.

"We have reports coming in that hyperspace travel to the system has been ... failing. For no apparent reason it seems to be impossible to enter the system."

The Jedi raised his brow in surprise. The Hutts had shown little activity in the sector. None actually. Now he wondered if that had probably been intentional. "What do we have in the system?" He asked. The Bothan Ran Kad'lar nodded and zoomed into the map of the system. "A lot, for a system in the unknown regions actually. An ancient space station called Aton IV, a major trading hub for Tarax, the mining planet in the system. They are the ones mining Peridan for the Republic. But we also have a mission there. The 'Voice of Authority' has been send there to investigate a local pirate group with possible connections to a Jedi Master who vanished nearby the system." The Jedi Master raised his brow. "A Jedi Mission?" The Bothan nodded. "Yes, Sir."

The Jedi Master sighed and leaned forward. "Did they report anything?"

"They have been following up on rumors of the pirates hiding in the local asteroid system. It is rather vast. They actually requested reinforcements."

The Jedi Master looked at the Bothan officer and gave a deep and concerned sigh. They obviously could not send reinforcement. They could not send help or resources to the system. They could send nothing.

"May the force be with them." It sounded hollow even to him.

    The Dark Moon Crisis

Something has happened in the Taraxes-System, leaving the whole region cut-off from the rest of the galaxy by not allowing hyperspace travel outside the system. Micro-jumps still work, but have become unreliable. The mysterious event left thousands stranded in the system. Traders, smugglers and bounty hunters, agents of Hutts and even a Republic Corvette are stuck and things are complicated with communication to the only habitable planet in the system having been cut off.

The game begins 24 hours after the "anomaly" has occurred. It is the year 2.762 BBY and the events that will be remembered as the Dark Moon Crisis are about to begin.

Your character can be anyone, from a simple inhabitant of the local space station Aton IV to any person passing through the station or a Republic soldier or officer. But any character will begin either on the station or on the docked Republic Corvette "Voice of Authority" which is docking at the space station to receive supplies. There are two Jedi on the mission who will be up for players to pick. Those are the only Jedi available for players. Characters can be force sensitive though. But this story is not about Jedi, but about everybody in the system and how they deal with the unexpected isolation. If you make this your fight for survival, your moment to claim power or money, settle old scores or a quest to solve the mystery of the sudden inability to enter hyperspace is up to you.

    Aton IV

The space station was part of the ancient colonizing program of the Republic, but was abandoned by the Republic when hyperdrive technology advanced. Nowadays it is a cauldron of alien spaces and a major trading outpost for the local ore mine for the nearby mining colony Tarax Prime. The lack of Republic presence and the isolated location in Unknown Regions have made the station a popular choice for smugglers and unsavory elements. Bounty Hunters, criminals and agents of various factions have made their home here to do their business away from the Republic jurisdiction.

The station is governed by a syndicate of Duros known as "The Order", who provide a minimum of security to the inhabitants of the station. Their leader Varon is known to have a high level of tolerance for questionable business, as long as no blood is shed. Therefore it is not surprising he has become rather rich through bribes by local "business men".

    The Voice of Authority

The Republic Hammerhead-Class Corvette was send to the system on behalf of the Jedi Council to investigate a local group of pirates preying on the mining routes. There is also the rumor these pirates could be connected to the Vanishing of Jedi Master Salason Auron and his three pupils who have vanished in the region a year ago. The ship is commanded by two Jedi who are leading the mission.

The Voice of Authority has a small compliment and marines on board and a single shuttle to be used for transportation. An informant has recently pointed them to a pirate group working out of the nearby asteroid field. As two pirate groups in the same region are unlikely the Republic hopes to locate the pirates base. The Jedi and their Republic soldiers have failed to locate the pirates so far and have requested reinforcements before the anomaly cut them off.

    Name: Lorn Romar
    Occupation:
    Jedi Knight
    Age: 21 years
    Force Sensitive: Yes
Equipment: Jedi robes, a lightsaber with a blue blade
    Biography:

Lorn was an ordinary Padawan in the best and worse sense of the word. He was trained on the academy of Kamparas since he was a boy and did neither overshadow the other trainees nor fall behind. Actually he felt comfortable with being average, as he is well aware of the great burden that comes with the force. His only weakness was perhaps his fear of this responsibility.

It was this respect for his duties that lead Master Taun pick him, when his time came. His Master understood the hesitating nature of the boy and instead of making him a peacekeeper or consular he believed it was exactly this awareness of the danger of power that made Lorn the perfect warrior for the light. His training was often harsh and to Lorn's taste to focused on lightsaber fighting and too little on understanding the living force. But over the years the boy became a young man and when he followed his Master into the Sren'Rushi Slaver campaign he finally understood what his Master had prepared him for. The fear of responsibility dwarved when he saw the injustice and cruelty of the slavers. He understood there were things a Jedi had to fight to stay true to his ideals. He also understood this battle was the source of great temptation and danger. It was his cautious nature that allowed him to stay true to the Jedi ways as he followed his Master into combat.

The campaign lasted for over a year and the Republic and the Jedi forced the slavers back to their homeplanet. Their enemy was a species with a fierce and unforgiving nature though and Lorn was the one to speak out what more senior Jedi did not dare to say. Any military campaign would lead to a genocide. His Master understood the truth of his Padawan's words and stepped back from the leadership of the campaign. Together with the elder Jedi Master Saladon Auron the young Jedi then dared to attempt the unthinkable. They began talking to the enemy, by allowing themselves to become prisoners of the brutal slavers. Over three months they studied their captors and understood the traditions and history of a species that had embraced slavery as a way of living. They also found those who opposed these ways and paved them a way into the Republic, convincing them of the benefits of joining the galactic civilization. The Jedi who had been trained to become a warrior overcame his training to become a peacemaker after all.

When slavery was finally abolished he was surprised to be take to Coruscant. His Master explained to him this night, he had nothing to learn. Master Taun was the one who had learned from his Padawan. And for this Lorn Romar was recognized as a Jedi Knight.

Since then he has faithfully served the Jedi and the Republic, bringing peace and order to the frontier regions of the known galaxy. When he heard of Master Auron's vanishing he volunteered to the mission looking for him. The search lead to the Taraxes-System and a group of elusive pirates.

ooc: Thanks for joining, @DarkLordoftheFins. Your interest is highly appreciated, but as the game has not garnered enough interest I see no way to launch it in it's current state. One player would not be enough to do the game any justice. Also I would have loved to see your characters adventures. My apologies.

So I might revive the idea one day, as I really liked the plot. For now I think this game is pretty much done.

    Name: Enora Vakaris
    Occupation: Jedi Knight
    Age: 29
    Force Sensitive: Yes
Equipment: A lightsaber (golden blade) and Jedi Robes
Biography: Enora was trained at the Coruscant academy and later by the famous Jedi Master Salason Auron. She was kind of a failure as a student in the sense that she actually did not follow his example as a negotiator and peacemaker, but found many conflicts to be beyond the "talking cure", as she called it. She always saw the benefit of ending a war or conflict or even keep it from breaking out. But there were those conflicts where millions died as you spend days and sometimes months negotiating. She always believed that sometimes a Jedi could not stay neutral. The force sometimes demanded to take sides. Not all conflicts were grey, some where simply black and white.

To her surprise Master Auron was not judging her or even discouraging her. He admitted his failures (also he considered the benefits overwhelmed the disadvantages of his actions) and encouraged her to find her own way, instead concentrating on educating her in the arts of combat. He was equally a master of those. He also intensely warned her about the lure of the Dark Side this path included always.

Finally Enora became a Jedi Knight, but kept close contact to her Master.

It was the Sren'Rushi campaign that made her understand the balance between their world views. In a Series of brutal battles the Jedi forced the Slaver Empire back to their home planet. Only to be faced with an impossible decision. Annihilate the species or leave them to regain strength. Both seemed unacceptable. To her shame it was another Jedi who followed her Master on an unrivaled mission of diplomacy. Together with Lorn Romar her master changed the views of the Slavers, basically changing their whole culture. While Lorn and her Master did this, she stayed behind with Master Vaun, one of the orders greatest warriors. His Padawan had opposed his violent ways as much as she had opposed her Masters peacemaking philosophy. First she thought the Masters probably should have swapped their apprentices. But Master Vaun dismissed the thought. He explained that only through their defeat the Sren'Rushi had questioned their ways and were ready to be turned to be more constructive members of the galactic community. Both approaches had been necessary to end the conflict. The force had therefore been wise to pair warriors and diplomats side-by-side.

When Auron and Lorn returned Enora was the first to congratulate them on their accomplishment and was present when Lorn Romar was knighted.

Many years later when her Master vanished she met the younger Jedi again aboard the Voice of Authority. United by their wish to find Master Auron, they set out on a mission to find a group of pirates in the Taraxes-System.

    Name:
    Gavar Roll aka Vrolla
    Occupation: Pirate
    Age: 28
    Force Sensitive: Yes
Equipment: Blaster Pistol, Concussion grenades, Vibroblade, light freighter “Demon’s Handle”
Biography: Gavar Roll is a pirate. The day after he graduated from his computer science academy, at the age of 19, Gavar hijacked a starship with a small crew, kidnapped the Iridonian sector senator and his family, traded them to the Hutts for a credit pay day. He immediately began taking a liking to the quick cash that kidnapping, weapons smuggling, and ambushes brought him. He has not looked back since. The Unknown Regions attracted his attention because of its lawless, unexplored environment which is ripe for the brave that seek to uncover its riches. Since arriving in the Unknown regions 3 years ago, he has taken to trying to map out as much of the region as he can to take advantage of those that get lost or wander to far from the known safe havens. Smash and grabs have been the move for the past couple of years to build him up a medium sized crew of like minded individuals, but he has recently branched out into trying to go more legitimate. This has caused him to set his sights on Aton IV and its inhabitants, more specifically the Syndicate. His goal is rather ambitious: He wants to take down the Syndicate and take control of the spacestation. This has led him to form a budding alliance with the Dark Moon Crisis, but recently he has lost all contact with them.

There is a saying in German, that those declared dead usually live longer. This is one of these cases. I got another two interested players. So I will give them a week time to get their CSes in and next week: This game will start!

    I am one happy GM!

    Name: Oren Jorr
    Occupation: Padawan
    Age: 14
    Force Sensitive: Yes
Equipment: Lightsaber with green blade; datapad with comlink; classic Jedi robes with gray tunic, brown boots and belt, but prefers a more utilitarian look
Biography: Born on Coruscant, Oren did not have what many consider a normal childhood; raised in foster care, he did not know what it was like to have a true family, a fact that he would come to resent as he grew older. The only consolation was his place within one of the many government-run facilities, where the Jedi were able to spot his affinity for the Force early. It wasn’t long before they whisked him away to the temple for training.

But in some ways, his condition never improved...at least, in Oren’s mind. Much like his time in government care, he was often bullied by the older kids and found himself constantly vying for his superiors’ attention. This caused him to act out against the system, which earned him a reputation for being a rather impetuous and stubborn young man. It wasn’t the finest of traits for an aspiring Jedi to have, which made it difficult for him to find a master when the time came.

Master Korvin Swast, however, decided that he was up to the challenge. He surmised that Oren only needed careful discipline and the intimate bond that could only be formed between master and apprentice; the Force would do the rest if it was its will for him to be trained.

Oren learned much from Master Swast, but unfortunately, their time together would not last; Swast was later killed while investigating a border dispute in the Outer Rim. Not only did Oren blame himself for the tragedy, despite there being nothing he could’ve done to prevent it, but he once again found himself without a master. When he returned to Coruscant, the Council determined that they would assign him a new master, but months soon passed, and the appointment never came.

Frustrated over the course of events and fearing that he would be transferred to another division, such as the Jedi Service Corps, Oren finally decided to take matters into his own hands. He had heard tales of Jedi Master Saladon Auron and how he had renounced his freedom to live under the tyrannical rule of a species known for their barbaric practices, slavery chief among them. The young man found himself infatuated by the man’s integrity and selflessness; it took tremendous willpower to live under those conditions. And it was all for the good of the Republic – through his sacrifice, Master Auron had convinced this oppressive species to live peacefully among them. Oren knew without a doubt that he wanted this man to finish his training.

Oren was able to track Master Auron’s last known location to the Taraxes-System, but there was only one problem – the Jedi Master had gone missing. When he learned that the Republic was dispatching a ship to the area to investigate the disappearance, Oren knew he had to get on board...if only to prove his worth. He did not hesitate to volunteer himself for the mission.

    Equipment: See Below
Biography: Teela is actually.. A Hyperspace surveyor. Off on a vacation, something she has not been on, in a long time. Teela has always been interested in space, and space travel. From her modest home, she always seemed to be looking up and out. A rather plain and boring upbringing, it wasn't until she entered school to study her passion, did she seem to come out of her shell.

Vectors, spatial variants, all seemed to come easily to her. While sometimes, actually MOST times, she could not explain to her teachers HOW she came up to a certain answer, she was always correct. It was one of those instructors who noticed her gifts and recommended that she become a surveyor. She does not mind the long hours or traveling alone usually, as there is plenty in space to keep her company. She would love to have a pet, but she hasn't decided on one.

Right now, her only plans were to curl up to a good holonovel, and enjoy a bottle of aged Corellian whiskey, another of her companions had given her. She had been busy, looking for a new hyperspace route through an area some beings called the "sea of stones", a rather busy and somewhat dangerous concentration of asteroids fields, not too far away from her present location. But so far, she had not managed to find anything, and she was frustrated. But now, it was vacation time. Time for some well-earned rest. But habit did make her bring her tools with her. She ALWAYS has her tools with her. After all, Ka'tron discovered a new nebula hyperslip, while he was on vacation. You never know.

    Aton IV, Taraxes-System

The station had always been a bit crowded, but now it was sprawling with activity. The inability to enter hyperspace had made most ships return to the station and the hangars were filled with transports now. Two of the bigger ore-haulers had docked outside.

Everybody was in the corridors talking to whoever offered a theory on what exactly had happened. Every theory possible was available. A Republic weapons test, an ancient curse, a gravity anomaly, a Hutt superweapon, every God and demon was blamed and of course the Jedi. The truth was nobody knew.

A fanatic Devaronian was the loudest of all who voiced their theories. He sold his as an absolute certainty. Standing on the grand plaza on a box he yelled through the corridors and had found an audience of a hundred or so followers. "This is the end my friends! In our arrogance we have assumed the void is ours, but the void has come to cast it's judgment on us! It denies us all what we claimed from it! No ship will ever pass the void again! No soul will wander among the stars! The void will take us all and only the void remains!" He had his hands high in the air as he yelled and his brown robes and two horns gave him the look of a simple but diabolical messenger of what he tirelessly had referred to as the Great Void!

"What can we do?" A human woman yelled at him and he threw her a diabolical grin.

"Can we keep stars from rotating or suns from shining? Nothing, my dear. The void will take us all. When we run out of food, out of air, out of hope! Prepare yourself! Choose the end you consider best and enter the great void!"

The Order had refrained from stopping him for now, but two Duros stood near the east exit with their hands on their sidearms and watched him. It was only a question of time until they found his speech intolerable. There were thousands of creatures here on the grand plaza, selling goods in their booths, entering and leaving the the shops and taverns here. So far only few listened to the yelling Devaronian.

Among the crowd were Vrolla and his first mate, the Iktochi Larek. "They already begin to loose control." Larek whispered to him, pointing at the two helpless Duros watching the Devaronian. "If the Black Admiral would be around, we could probably wipe them out in a matter of days." He hissed. Vrolla had a fine, but small crew. Not enough to take on the Order by themselves in an open fight. Without their ally they had lost a key-stone to their plan. The military arm of it. "Maybe it is time to talk to Dorcin anyway." Larek signed. Dorcin was the unofficial representative of the Hutts. A wealthy Weequay trader who had a small army of Nikto to protect their assets. The second largest group of armed guards after the Order. He was also known to double-cross partners of he considered it useful. A dangerous ally.

    Larek

Teela "Tee" Valom was sitting near the east entrance of the plaza in a small tavern called the "Xantu Pit" and actually could see the agitated Devaronian at the center of the plaza pretty well from there. Samon Sarr had taken the other seat at her table without asking. Samon was a member of the Republic Scout Corp. He did not find routes, he used them to find new planets. They had crossed paths in the past and had both found themselves on the station. He was an elder Vantarian and a veteran explorer, pale skinned and resting on his tentacles. "The irony is hard to beat, is it? Two explorers stuck in a place where hyperspace is not working. Really. I never heard of a system wide hyperspace anomaly. What are the damned chances?" He sighed and took a sip of the green fluid he had orders. It smelled as disgusting as it looked. "So what do you think? More of a solar storm or gravity waves?" He was visibly frustrated. He had been here to work and not for holidays.

Approaching Aton IV aboard the Republic shuttle "DOL-76"

Lorn Romar and Oren Jorr had been summoned by Varon, leader of the Order to discuss the situation. To be precise Lorn had been summoned. Oren joined the mission so late, he had barely made it to the Voice of Authority, before hyperspace failed. Oren had felt it upon arrival, the surprise and then slowly spreading panic among the spacers of this sector. Lorn had been on the bridge of the Voice and involved into another aggressive discussion with the Captain, when he had felt a trembling, a vibration running through the force. It is what Masters often referred to as a disturbance in the force. Yet, it's origins were hard to locate.

After that chaos spread. The Republic had been impossible to reach and their own ships had been as affected by the sudden failure of hyperspace as everyone else. They would not get the reinforcement they had asked for and that meant they were stuck in a system with their targets the Dark Moon pirates and faced a potentially predominant fleet of ruthless criminals. The Order, the ruling body of Aron IV would face the same threat. Pirates wanted ships and all ships were here.

So it had made sense for Varon, leader of the syndicate called the Order to talk to his most valuable potential ally. The Jedi had been summoned and now approached the private hangar of the gargantuan space station in their shuttle. It was the first time they actually had a minute for themselves, since Oren's turbulent arrival.

Their shuttle was slowly nearing the private hangar of the Order.

Lorn stood behind the pilot and watched him closing in on the hangar. His hands folded behind his back as he waited until he was sure they had cleared the traffic belt around the station. Only then he turned to his fellow Jedi and gave the young man a long and testing look.

"Oren Jorr, right? I guess you are still a Padawan?" He smiled and tried to hide his discomfort. He was not a Master and had never thought of becoming one. But being the other Jedi in a system cut off from any communication with the outside he was now responsible for the boy. "Where is your Master, Padawan? It is rather unusual you travel alone, isn't it?"

A Jedi Master would indeed have been more what he expected. With a difficult Captain and a threat like the Dark Moon lurking somewhere out there he felt the burden of responsibility already. Yet, he had to trust in the force. All of this was no coincidence. There was a reason why he was here, why Master Auron had vanished in this system, why the pirates were here and why this anomaly had appeared. There was even a reason why this young Padawan had ended up here. Everything was connected. He just did not understand how, yet. He would find out. The one thing the force obviously demanded was he had to find out what was going on here.

    Vrolla
    -Aton IV

    A. Huge. Bummer.

That was how Vrolla would describe the day so far. The day had began with him rolling off his bunk, standing up, before tripping down the stairs that connected his sleeping quarters to his crew's. The fall had been a crumbling calamity of flailing limbs, but the real damage was done on the final four steps of which his head had volunteered to take the majority of the impacts. His head hurt now thinking about it. Even more? The resulting headache from the fall had echoed throughout his morning and standing in the chaotic marketplace listening to people panic about the current hyperspace issues was doing Vrolla no favors.

He scowled at the devaronian behind his cup of hot caf. As a zabrak, one would think that he would have a sense of brotherhood with other horned humanoid species, but Vrolla could not stand devaronians. Never seen one that he could stand to look at for longer than 10 seconds. This one in particular was screaming some nonsense about how the sudden shut down of hyperspace travel and, Vrolla learned from listening in the crowd, lack of outside communication was a sign of the end times. This charge made Vrolla chuckle alittle. There were plenty times in this part of the galaxy that outside communication could be lost and he had been in some uncharted areas in the Unknown Regions that your hyperspace drive did not seem to function quite right. So, Vrolla was not in complete panic mode by either of these two circumstances. Sure, a shutdown this widespread and in such an established part of the system was something he had never experienced or heard about. A big issue that someone else would eventually figure out. Probably. Maybe.

The only thing on Vrolla's mind right now was the fact that he had no messages from his Dark Moon contact. He had convinced the crew, and himself subtly, that if they came to the station they would figure out what was going on. Vrolla had joked that after docking, the Black Admiral himself would be there to greet them. That didn't even kind of, sort of, happen. Ugh...this wasn't a setting plans back a few days type of issue, this was a time for a new plan type issue. He took a sip of his caf as Larek commented that now might be the time to contact Dorcin, a Hutt affiliate.

"Dorcin." Vrolla repeated. "Yea... That's the only move if we're gonna go forward."

He smiled and nudged Larek. "Hopefully the Hutts have a short memory." When they had first arrived in the Unknown Regions, the crew of the Demon's Hand had a run in with some Hutt errand boys. A couple of robberies and the kidnappings of surveyors and mid level bookkeepers helped Vrolla get the earliest impressions of how many creds could be made in the Unknown Regions if you were willing to butt heads. But Larek had convinced him to leave the Hutts alone, out of a rationale that the Hutts would eventually get fed up and chop them all up into edible pieces. Which, admittedly, he was right. Dorcin was a bigger dog than the boys that Demon's Hand had gone up against those 3 years ago. A dangerous dude who would sell anyone out to advance the cartels' goals. But Vrolla had his eyes set on a big target and sometimes that required putting your ass on the line.

"We need to get a meeting with Dorcin." He punched Larek in the chest playfully as he turned and started to maneuver through the crowd. "You think this time you'll let us let loose when things get hot? Keep those delicate sensibilities in check, probably? Maybe?"

    GM approved, my replacement CS

    Name: Thoran Nox
    Occupation:
    Bounty Hunter
    Age: presumably late thirties
    Force Sensitive: No
    Equipment:

Armor, multi-purpose helmet, a plasma-caster (basically a six shooter) and two seeker droids who directly report to his helmet comm system
Biography: There is very little known about the man who calls himself Thoran Nox. He is a Bounty Hunter and has in the past operated within Hutt Space, the Unknown Regions and even the Republic space when necessary. He has build a reputation for being a ruthless and obsessed hunter of those he considers worth of being his target. He also is known to turn down any jobs where the potential bounty is considered weak or defenseless. Only the worst of the worst deserve his attention. Lately he has arrived on Aton IV to seek a man called Avarus Gant and has been stranded on the space station when the hyperspace anomaly occurred. He is convinced though Gant is on the station and therefore is little concerned with his inability to leave for now. Quite the opposite. His target got nowhere to run now.

His unfulfilled dream is hunting a Jedi. He considers the force users the ultimate prey.

    Teela "Tee" Valom
    Aton IV, Taraxes-System

As Tee sat near at the outside table at some tavern called "Xantu Pit", she watched the circus going on around her. She was officially on vacation, but her vacation had quickly soured. She had been at work, exploring an area not too far from where she was now. She had come to the station to simply pick up an item and start her leave when the 'anomaly' occurred. Suddenly, hyperspace had decided to simply 'stop working'. Tee gritted her teeth in frustration. It seemed that work was trying to follow her. Communications had been cut off as well. Hyperspace phenomenon should not have interfered with communications. Even the old-style beacons were not working. As she sat, deep in thought, a being crossed her table and took a seat. Or his version of it, at least. A member of the Republic Scouts. She had dealt with him a few times before. Samon Sarr. He spoke, as they both watched the Devaronian preach to his newfound flock, about what was the possible reasons for the current problem.

"The irony is hard to beat, is it? Two explorers stuck in a place where hyperspace is not working. Really. I never heard of a system-wide hyperspace anomaly. What are the damned chances?" He sighed and took a sip of the green fluid he had ordered. It smelled as disgusting as it looked. Tee did her best not to wrinkle up her nose in disgust. In a tavern, anything could possibly be served, so it was best not to think about it. "So what do you think? More of a solar storm or gravity waves?" He was visibly annoyed.

Tee slowly shook her head, as she thought of the possibilities that Samon presented. "Oh yeah, the irony is wonderful," she said, giving him a wry grin. "Not exactly how I wanted to start my vacation either." Tee gave another short laugh. "I don't think so. A solar storm, we would have had some notice. A warning at least. Gravity waves, would pass thru the area, and then clear. And while that might disrupt travel for a while, the computers should have noticed something." Tee gave a nod towards the crowds. "I'm more worried about the crowds than I am that. Scared people tend to do stupid things. And on an overcrowded station, it doesn't take much effort to imagine that."

Tee leaned back, rubbing her chin. "I'm curious. We cant use hyperdrive to leave the system. I wonder if it's affecting the regular ship drives? Or how far this anomaly extends?" Tee shook her head. "It just feels, wrong. Know what I mean?"

    IC: Oren Jorr
Republic Shuttle ‘DOL-76’, approaching Aton IV

With his arms hanging casually at his sides and his head resting against the side paneling as if he intended to use it as a makeshift pillow, Oren Jorr looked every bit the impervious teenager he truly was as he stared placidly out the viewport at the passing ship traffic below. Everything looked so peaceful, almost serene from his current vantage point above the space station, but he knew it was all a charade. He had felt the disturbance ripple through the Force several hours ago – a sudden disquiet that had emanated from the denizens below when the hyperspace routes had gone undeniably silent. Mild confusion over the loss of their lightspeed capabilities soon turned to panic as news of the anomaly spread. It didn’t take long for the entire system to spiral into chaos after that.

We’re trapped, the boy repeated to himself for what felt like the one-hundredth time. No hyperspace; no escape. It’s as simple as that. I should’ve never…

    "Oren Jorr, right?”

Oren froze at the sound of the voice, somewhat perturbed over the way the owner had so rudely broken into his train of thought. For a moment, he felt inclined to ignore him, but after several tense seconds, he decided that it probably wouldn’t be wise to ‘blow off’ a fellow Jedi in this instance. No matter what he had in mind for his final goal, this man was his ally, his brother.

Slowly, Oren lifted his head and met the Jedi’s gaze. While that was the only acknowledgment he afforded the man, he was immediately struck by how young he was – he couldn’t have been much older than himself. Very curious.

“I guess you are still a Padawan?" the man continued with a smile. Oren resisted the urge to roll his eyes; it was the usual fare...they always saw him as nothing more than a little kid.

"Where is your Master, Padawan? It is rather unusual you travel alone, isn't it?"

Yes, it was very unusual, but what other choice did he have? This had been forced upon him...

He decided to play coy and deflected the question by changing the subject. He also raised his defenses in the Force; it probably wouldn't do much against a fully-fledged Jedi Knight, but he could try. “Sorry, sir,” Oren began gingerly, adopting his best innocent look as he sat up and inched toward the edge of his seat. “I don’t believe I caught your name. Everything happened so quickly.”

    Lorn Romar
    Shuttle

Lorn felt the tension in the boy. He felt the attempt to hide his feelings or thoughts in the force. He would never have been so impolite to intrude his thoughts, but of course he felt the presence of the boy in the force.

"Lorn Romar. Lorn. And if you call me Sir again, I will call you Padawan for the rest of the mission." He gave the boy a smile, trying to relax him. He looked at the pilot and wondered how much the man would report to his superiors. Did it matter? He was a Jedi Knight, he did not answer to the Captain.

So he decided to ignore the man. Leaning down to Oren he nodded. "I understand the situation is a cause for concern. I feel no better. But there is a reason why we are here. Me and you. And we are Jedi. People look at us for help. If we betray them by looking nervous, they will loose hope. Hope is very important in situations like this. Okay? So no matter what happens, we display confidence." He sighed. "Alright? A shame your Master isn't here. But I am not a Master. I will need you. I need you as much as you need me."

He did not tell him, he should not let him down. He simply nodded a reassuring nod and straightened himself again. "When we arrive I will talk to this Varon. I need you to get us a picture of what is going on in that station. Can you do that for me?"

Hopefully the boy did not realize how he had no idea how he would handle the situation. If the force ever wanted to give him a little hint, now was the right time.

    Aton IV, Taraxes-System, Corridors

Larek laughed at his Captain and nodded. "I will try to behave." He assured his Boss and then lead the way away from the Devaronian, who just got louder now that he had secured a certain audience.

They took the east corridor to a second, smaller plaza where Dorcin was often found looking for fine corellian brandy and granting audiences from a local Cantina. He was there today and for the over-crowded station this place was remarkable empty. Two seeker droids hummed over the market like black flying balls and the elder Nikto was surrounded by guards and he actually was in company. A small yellow alien was next to him from an undefinable species. "Look, look, visitors we got." The small companion laughed and Dorcin turned, holding back his five Nikto bodyguards with their plasma-lances. "This my friend Vonda is the great pirate Vrollo. No Vrolla it is, right?" He smiled and turned fully to the Iktochi and the Zabrak who had entered the market. In the corner a man in white-greyish armor lay his hand on his gun. Vrolla knew him, as everyone on the station did. Theron Nox was a Bounty Hunter with quite a reputation and every criminal had been concerned he might be the target of the man, when he had arrived a few days ago.

"What can the great Dorcin do for you, my friend?" He asked and Larek tensed visibly next to Vrolla. "The order is not asking freelancers to do their dirty work now, are they?"

Salom looked at Tee and tried to adjust on the seat that was not made for someone walking on four tentacles. The "Xantu Pit" was quickly filling up now. Regretfully he nodded as Tee shot down his theories. "Hit me when I was in the belt. Just cleared of the asteroids and wanted to jump to the Velaun-System and tah dah! Nothing happened. Subdrives worked fine. Just took me nine hours to get here. You still got that small racer? You might have made it in five!" He talked perfect basic, but when he laughed it was a gurgling sound escaping his alien throat. He made that sound now.

"The Ore Haulers that arrived today did fine, too. Must be a mining colony nearby. They bring in their shipments with droid-ships subspace." He gave this a thought. Of course there was an awful amount of space between systems, so gapping the distance would take centuries at worst and decades at best. Within the system, they could still travel though. They would just be very slow. "I heard rumors about pirates. I was warned they might be active near the belt. Could a pirate group pull this off? I mean we are basically like a free meal for them the moment this Republic ship leaves." Shaking his head he leaned forward. "Or the Jedi. They are here. Two Jedi."

"The Cylon your ship?" The voice came from behind and Salon turned as a an alien of a rather undefinable species had approached them and looked at Tee.

"It's called the Cryon." Salon replied and looked at Tee. One of his tentacles was going for his blaster slowly.

"Fast, is it?" The alien asked with his raspy voice. He was wearing a dark and sophisticated armor, but no visible weapon. Obviously it was tough for him to replicate the right tones to speak basic.

    Vrolla
    -Aton IV, Corridors

Ugh. Niktos. Another hard to look at species. Dorcin definitely kept heavily armed company and they were, seemingly, down for the business. The guards had immediately reacted to Larek's and his presence as soon as they had come in their line of sight. Vrolla eyed the strange being next to Dorcin for just a moment, a moment filled with question marks in his head, but did not let it sway him from the current mission he was on. If, in some alternate universe, this would not have been enough to deter the average adversary from attempting to get to Dorcin, Vrolla noticed a bounty hunter was also present. Not just any bounty hunter, but Thoran Nox. Nox was well known in the criminal world. He wasn't like most bounty hunters. He was what they called a Game hunter. He wanted the sport and challenge of getting the bigger guys. Vrolla almost cracked a smile at the situation they had walked into.

The zabrak sipped from his caf, let the overly sweet drink sit in his mouth for a second or two longer than normal, and raised his brows in feigned surprise that the Nikto had called him a great pirate. It, of course, had been sarcasm.

"Haha," He laughed. "Yes, you're right on the Vrolla part, I don't know so much about the great part." There a shift in the energy around Larek. His first mate was becoming tense and a tinge bit worried. Vrolla passed him his caf and took half a step forward. Larek was a hell of a first mate, but not the first person that Vrolla would bring of his crew if he expected there to be a confrontation.

"The order is, in fact, what brings me to you, Dorcin." He began as he folded his arms. "But I'm no freelancer, never had the mentality of an errand boy or a bounty hunter. I'm more interested in building partnerships. You're no friend to the Order. Neither am I." He paused for a moment. It would seem that he was hesitating or contemplating his next words carefully. "I'm sure the big guys that support your presence here wouldn't mind a bigger piece of the pie that is Aton IV. I figure...we could help each other."

    IC: Oren Jorr
Republic Shuttle ‘DOL-76’, approaching Aton IV

The man smiled and revealed himself as Lorn Romar, his voice soft and encouraging. He even went as far as to crack a joke to help the young man relax. While Oren typically didn’t respond to that kind of pandering, especially when it was done out of sympathy for his age, the young man couldn’t help but smirk. All things considered, Romar had an affable attitude that was infectious; perhaps he could get used to this.

As Lorn went on, the young man found himself inching closer to the edge of the seat, listening intently now. The older Jedi explained their purpose here and why it was so important to remain calm and confident in the face of uncertainty. The citizens of this system were relying on them for assistance – the very same citizens who were now alone and panicked over the loss of their hyperspace capabilities. It all seemed very surreal, but Oren seemed to understand. He tried to imagine the pandemonium breaking out on the space station and how he could step in to turn the tide. He knew that this would put a dent in his original plan, but...they were depending on him. How could he refuse a call for help?

Oren let this sink in for a moment before slowly bobbing his head in quiet acceptance.

Lorn sighed and continued, “A shame your Master isn't here. But I am not a Master. I will need you. I need you as much as you need me."

The young man’s eyes narrowed as they sought Romar’s gaze. Oddly, the man did not stress too much about Oren’s purpose here, or why he was alone. Sure, he mentioned his missing Master again, but he did not push the subject – the boy respected him for that. Instead, he was willing to accept him for who he was. He needed him and wanted to work together as a team.

"When we arrive I will talk to this Varon,” Lorn carried on after a prolonged silence, “I need you to get us a picture of what is going on in that station. Can you do that for me?"

Inclining his head, Oren took his time to consider this, playing out the different scenarios in his head. Survey the space station and report back on the status of the people? That was easy enough, right? He was more than capable of gathering intel. And who knows, maybe it would even open up a window of opportunity for him to pursue his original goal after all – to uncover clues on Master Auron's whereabouts. He had to try...

That possibility spurred Oren into action, and he gave a short nod. “Consider it done, si--Lorn.” He remembered what the man had said about addressing him as ‘sir,’ and flashed a sheepish grin. “I won’t let you down. Whatever is causing his, I’m sure we’ll get to the bottom of it. We’re in this together, right?”

He practically hopped out of his seat and extended his hand to shake. He appeared eager to get started...perhaps a little too eager.

    Thoran Nox
    The Plaza

The Nikto seemed most nervous about his presence. But that was probably the point. The Great Dorcin, as the Hutts lapdog in this quadrant called himself, kept him around to make people nervous. In exchange he promised him to provide info on Gant. The man was here, but had been incredible hard to find. There was a chance he had died already. There also was a chance he was very good. Thoran Nox did not take chances.

So the Great Dorcin had his presence. Actually Thoran had never agreed to protect him. Also he had to until the information became available.

Then there was this little yellow thing. It had arrived today and irritated him immensely. He endured it, his grimacing face hidden under the helmet.

Finally there was the Zabrak and his Iktochi companion. Earlier Thoran Nox had seen the Devaronian on the market. Horned species were the rage on Aaron IV right now. Obviously.

Thoran Nox only half-listened as Dorcin again made his show. Then they started to talk about something that sounded a lot like war to him. Thoran did not mind war. Give me a gun and I start a war, if you tell me anything worth fighting for.

Then again war always was and always had been good for business.

Subdrives worked fine. Just took me nine hours to get here. You still got that small racer? You might have made it in five!" He laughed, and Tee chuckled next to him as she nodded her head. Yes, if you were going to be exploring fast-moving asteroids, then you needed to be a skilled dancer. But that bit of information was good to know. Salom continued, "The Ore Haulers that arrived today did fine, too. Must be a mining colony nearby. They bring in their shipments with droid-ships subspace." He paused for a moment. "I heard rumors about pirates. I was warned they might be active near the belt. Could a pirate group pull this off? I mean we are basically like a free meal for them the moment this Republic ship leaves." Shaking his head he leaned forward. "Or the Jedi. They are here. Two Jedi."

Tee's eyebrow shot up at that comment. Two Jedi. Here? Then it must be serious. "Hmmm. Jedi huh? Sounds like serious Poodo!!" She was about to offer some other observations when a strange voice interrupted their conversation.

"The Cylon your ship?" Tee turned cautiously, as she looked at the owner of the voice. It was an alien, and she could not place the species at all. But he did have some curious features. Luckily, before she could reply, Salon spoke up.

"It's called the Cryon." Salon replied and looked at Tee. She saw that one of his tentacles was going for his blaster slowly. Tee held back the urge to correct the name of her ship, and instead focused on the alien.

"Fast, is it?" The alien asked his voice rough sounding. Dark armor. Expensive. No weapons that she could see. Doubt if he was a bounty hunter. He would already have a fast ship. Tee turned her body sideways to him so that she could get a better look at him. Actually, she was wondering how in the drada had he managed to figure out her ship, and that she was the owner of it. She leaned back slightly, just in case Salon got a little trigger happy.

"Well, not many ships are fast at the moment, considering this hyperspace mess." She responded slowly. "But yeah, she can still skip." Tee took a sip of her drink. "Not that Im planning to go anyplace at the moment, though." she shot a look at Salom, as she wondered what this alien was up to, and why the sudden need for a fast ship, when all ships were stuck in hyperspace quagmire.

Larek felt uncomfortable, but stood firmly next to his Captain. The Great Dorcin was silent for a moment, before he choose to not answer. It was his small yellow friend who raised his voice and made clear he was not the servant, but the Master.

"Interesting this notion is indeed to our friends. Not much love they have for independents." He stepped forth.

"Leading such an attempt you would? If the right equipment was will provide?"

Now the Great Dorcin spoke. "The Jedi. They are here and with them a Hammerhead. They won't allow a regime change. Conservative lovers of the status quo." He did little to hide his despise.

"A problem they are. But alone without their councils they also are." The yellow alien said. "Dealt with such a problem can be, for the right price I guess?" He turned his head to Nox. Awaiting the bounty hunters answer.

Laughing Salom now fully turned to the alien as the man stepped to their table.

"We can fly. Just not hyperspace. Not that far away the mining colony is." He said and Salom raised his hairless brows.

"Nine hours or so. Seven with her ship. But why should we ..."

"I pay." The alien said and he was obviously desperate. Then he looked at both of them. "Save. You will be save on Prime. Not save here. The Pirates, they are coming." He gave a gurgling sound that probably was a sigh. "I need to deliver things. Important things." He shook his head. "Pirates must not get."

Landing aboard Aton IV aboard the Republic shuttle "DOL-76"

The shuttle made it slowly into the private hangar of the order. Ten starfighter of unknown specification were parked there. The Orders private defense force.

Three Duros awaited the landing shuttle. Varon himself was sitting in a chair near a console and his chief enforcer Kayn and his head of security Dava where with him.

The moment the Jedi left the shuttle Kayn greeted them with an accusing voice. "How have you done this? Don't you think there are less annoying ways to capture pirates, Master Jedi Romar?" Kayn circled the two Jedi and had his eyes fixed on Oren, oozing hostility to the two Jedi in front of him. "You are young." He realized.

    Lorn Romar
    Shuttle

Lorn smiled at the boy. "Very good." He stood up again and saw the shuttle enter the private hangar of the Order. He knew little about the ruling body of the station except they were Duros and not Republic.

He felt a bit relieved when he saw they had their own starfighter fleet. They seemed at least prepared for defending the station. That was a beginning. "Let us see what our hosts got to say." Three of them were there. Two looked like security, the third was older and probably Varon, their leader. He had asked for this meeting.

He stepped to the ramp and left the moment it came down, waving Oren to accompany him. He pushed back his Jedi robes to show his lightsaber. His instinct told him these people valued strength, so he wanted to show them strength. Lorn Romar was trained by one of the best warriors of the Jedi Order. He was probably not his greatest student and not the greatest believer in his Masters teachings, but a few Duros with guns should not believe they scared him one damned bit.

The Duros in the black coat accused him immediately once he entered the hangar.
    Lorn met his eyes.

"We are Jedi. We come at all sizes and ages. And do you seriously think we did this? The pirates outnumber us and we are stuck in the system. Nobody is more threatened by this phenomenon than us." Looking at Oren he nodded. "My fellow Jedi wants to visit the station, while we have a lot to discuss, I assume."

    IC: Oren Jorr
    Hangar, Aton IV

A wave of uncertainty passed over Oren as the shuttle came to rest on the hangar floor, the sensation causing him to involuntarily shiver. He had known this mission would not be easy, but now that he was here, he was finding it increasingly more difficult to shake the feeling of impending danger...that something was amiss. He knew the hyperspace anomaly and the report of pirate attacks in the system were probably contributing to that, but what if it was something more? What if something else had caused Master Auron’s disappearance?

That thought lingered at the back of his mind as Oren gathered his robes tighter about his person and dutifully followed Lorn down the ramp. The hangar itself was filled with an array of starfighters and various tech and maintenance crews...the typical setup for a space station of this kind. The only oddity was the group of Duros crossing the tarmac to meet them; there were three in all, and the bulky one in the lead did not look particularly pleased with their presence here. With a frown, Oren pulled on Lorn’s confidence and strength to see him through this initial confrontation.

"How have you done this?” the lead Duro exclaimed with a hint of hostility in his voice. “Don't you think there are less annoying ways to capture pirates, Master Jedi Romar?"

Oren raised his brow curiously at the accusation. They believed the Jedi were responsible? Why would they do such a thing? He already felt his disdain for this man and his associates beginning to grow. He gave a sideways glance at Lorn to gauge the man’s reaction, but that’s when the Duros decided to direct his scrutiny at Oren.

“You are young,” he observed simply, seeming to disapprove.

Clenching his jaw, Oren only glared back at those red, bulbous eyes. He already felt self-conscious over the way others treated him because of his age; he did not need this thug to remind him of that fact so blatantly. He started to open his mouth to bite back with a retort, but Lorn stepped in before things could escalate.

"We are Jedi. We come at all sizes and ages,” the older man began calmly before moving on to defend their position. He made it clear that it was not the Jedi way to cause chaos and confusion to combat the pirate threat; the hyperspace incident was beyond their control. Lorn ended by addressing Oren with a nod. “My fellow Jedi wants to visit the station, while we have a lot to discuss, I assume."

Feeling his confidence building, the boy stepped forward and nodded along with Lorn’s assessment. If this was a traditional Master/Apprentice pairing, he knew it would be forbidden to speak up in this instance, but considering Lorn himself told him to appear strong to the locals, he decided to take a chance. Besides, he wanted these Duros to know that he would not allow them to take advantage of him.

“And if you don’t mind, I’d like to get started as soon as possible,” he added with some cockiness. He quirked a brow and smiled faintly at Lorn. “With everything that’s going on, time is of the essence.”

    Aton IV, Hangar and Plaza

"Kayn." It was Varon's voice, cutting through the hangar like a blade. "You must forgive us, Master Jedi." The elder Duros slowly raised to his feet. "The situation brings out the worst in us. Fear does that to people. But I am sure I don't have to explain that to a Jedi." He stepped forward and Kayn automatically stepped back. The last moment before standing in front of Lorn he turned to Oren. "Your Padawan is free to roam the station of course. Under my personal protection and as our guest." He raised his hand and very slowly pointed to a metal door. "Time is indeed of essence young Jedi. This lift will take you to the main area. Visit the market. It might give you a good idea what this crisis did to our people."

Varon waited for the boy to be gone, looking after him. Then he made a short gesture with his hand and his two companions retreated.

"So what is it that keeps our ship in sub-space Jedi. Do you know? Or do you at least have a guess?" He turned back to Lorn and smiled. "We seem to be in this together."

    ----

Oren found himself alone in the turbo-lift with a droid who immediately pressed a button once he entered.

The lift quickly passed 25 levels of the vast station and then announced with a gentle female voice the had arrived at main plaza. The doors opened and the presence of thousands of living things floated through the force. Fear. Fear and anxiety dominated this place. And immediately the feeling to be watched was there, which probably was because people turned around as he left the turbo lift, his robes giving away who he was.
