I recently read that the exclusive Cantina sets (Ponda Baba, Hammerhead, and Greedo) were cancelled, and that the second series (which were going to include the big praying mantis) was not going to come out.

Why? Probably because the first series warmed the pegs, since all three figures were RE-HASHES of old ones! What gives? Doesn't Hasbro know that people want new figures, not recycled one? They made the same mistake with the now-defunct Cinema scenes.

What they should've done is released three never-before-done figures for the first group of Cantina sets, like: The big preying mantis, the horned cyclops, and the pipe-smoker. Or, any other cantina characters that they hadn't done figures of yet.

Why the re-hashes? Collectors are sick of those. Hasbro should know better by now, but obviously they don't....

I think they died more because they had a $10 price tag than the fact that they were rehashes.

That and there were too damn many on the shelves.

Yeah The 3 Cantina sets are just pluging the shelf at my local Walmart. I don't think anyone has bought one in like 2 or 3 months there.

Yeah, we have several metric tons of them at the Walmart in our town. Not one has been purchased, I think. They will have to start paying people to take these things outta stores. Incredibly stupid concept by Hasbro, incredibly stupid marketing decision by Walmart, Couldnt they have realeased the ones that had Wuher and the Praying Mantis, the ones that I actually wouldve plunked down $$$ for, first? Ah well, with Hasbro's rehashing of stuff, theyll show up in stores somehow.

I don't think the $10 price tag was to blame. The Blame lies in the short packed Greedo. If you look at what is left on WM shlves it is Hammerhead and Ponda, I know that's the case here. Rarely do you still find a Greedo.

Look for these to pop up somewhere down the road. Would be something for the still wizards controlled online store to butcher up but good.

I you notice Walmart ALWAYS ends up with an exclusive toy or toys that nobody really wants. Then Walmart ALWAYS orders way to many so they clog up the shelves. Then the toys people REALLY want never make it to the shelves because Walmart NEVER marks down the pegwarmers and gets rid of them.

At my local Walmart there has always been a space somewhere in the toy department where the Star Wars toys nobody wants warm the pegs.

First it was the Jabba's Palace Band figures. Wich set on the shelves for 3 YEARS! before they were marked down.

Then it was the Delux Darth Maul and Sith Trianing Droid and Luke in the Bacta Tank. They must have had 100 Lukes and 40 Darth Mauls. They sat there forever until they finaly marked them down to 1.00 when I bought one of each.

Now it's the Cantina Figures which I don't think NO ONE has bought. Of course they HAVE NOT been markdown. Because I might buy one for a 1.00.

Plus you have the basic figures. The 1st wave of AOTC figures are still here. About 100 or more of them. Since last April Walmart has only put out new figures 3 times!

I'll be surprise if they will even get the Clone Wars toys this summer and if they do you can be sure Walmart will order 1000 figures of a charcter nobody wnats.

I blame Walmaet as much as Hasbro.

it basicaly boils down to wal mart K mart and target are shopping centers for the masses. they are there to make the highest profit margin posible . they by in mass quanity at a low price. then the sale to the majority of the people what is "HOT" at the moment. once some thing has lossed its ability to sale fast ,they no longer waste time on it. they dont care about collectors ,children waiting for that next wave of figures , all they care about is a fast buck. they made their money last april and a little bit at a time since then. but the time and money they would spend in researching SW customer need's and then feeding those need's would lessen if not excied the profit margins. the only thing is somebody at target has a better idea at least its better for us. charge a little bit more buy a little less at a time and co for the steady customer not the customer thats ready to buy up whats "HOT" .
ADD to that hasbro's great ldeas of over packing the less deisirable figures in an atempt to get the sale . this is done by packing one of a good figure with three or four of a less deisirable figure or figures, I.E. the whole yoda and dooku from last april . forcing retailers to buy more cases for more obvious figure they are shown to be a hot ITEM. what the retailers dont realise is that at a certin point we wont buy mass amounts of less deisirable figures. who hasnt gone to a TRU and senn pegs of royal gaurds. the retailers are told by salesmen that this is an ARMY builder figure and thats why it is over packed, not that its a slow moving figure that will not sale well. it all comes to the fact that people at hasbro are lying to make a sale, people at retail are beliving this because they are to lazy and tight with the money to do some reseach and we as collectors are forced to find other outlets for our need's Ebay online store's and scalpers .
