In ROTJ, Wedge Antilles fired 2 proton torpedoes at the power regulator on the reactor's north tower.
Forget for a moment that Lando finished the job by firing on the core itself - if he hadn't, if only the Power regulator had been damaged, what effect would that have had on the battle station itself?

Would it have been enough to destroy it?
Would the superweapon still have functioned?
Would the Death Star have been able to enter hyperspace?

Just how much of a problem would a damaged power regulator cause?

A loss of electricity in the food court.

destroying merely one or the other would have triggered failsafes and not resulted in destruction. The blowing of both them together is what caused the necessary runaway chain reaction which blew the hypermatter core.

Would the super weapon have still worked?
Would the station have been able to enter hyperspace?

Good question. But from what I've read I'm guessing if the reactor scrammed then you wouldn't have power output, so probably not?

I need one of those tech manuals... lol

Would that regulator govern the power for the entire station and all its systems, or just the hypermatter core? Was that core linked to the hyperdrive?

Could the Death Star 2 even reach hyperspace in its unfinished condition?

Im guessing no. The structual integrity would probably fail big time.

Wasn't there mention in one of the EU books somewhere about a loss of hull integrity in hyperspace being a major bad thing? Seeing as how the DS2 wasn't finished it didn't have integrity to begin with so probably would have flown apart.

Why was the power regulator needed to be hit at all though...? the first DS was blown up by just one pair of Proton torpedos, why does the DS2 also need a pair of concussion missiles...?

Source material shows thats how it was built. One or the other trips a failsafe, both together gives you the necessary chain reaction for boom time. "They don't build 'em like they used to"

That makes sense - learning from the previous Death Stars Mistakes.

I knew they changed the exhaust port into lots of small ones
