The dissapointment of The Sopranos (season 4 spoilers)

Is it just me, or does this season pretty much suck ? I thought season 3 was bad but compared to 4 it looks unbelievable. Nothing of any real import is going on (save the FBI storyline), and with the exception of Tony all of the rest of the characters simply seem to be floating around aimlessly. Hell, this show seems less like a mob show and more like a soap opera week after wee. WTF ? Where is the mafia intrigue and senseless, brutal violence ? And what the hell happened to AJ and Meadow ? I think they've had about five minutes of screen time since the season started ? What happened to Meadow's anger and apathy toward her parents in regards to Jackie Jr's death ?

To me, the biggest irony of this season is how literally nothing seems to be going on, while last season they left so many storyline's dangling that they could have been stacked this season storywise. Yet theyve chosen to ignore all of the stories from last season and nothing is happening as a result.

So who out there agrees with me ? After talking with a bunch of my friends about this last night I knnow that Im certainly not the only one who feels this way.

My main question is whatever happened to the Russians and that guy that Christopher and Paulie lost in the woods?

 

Exactly. That's just one example of many as far as the inconsistencies between the past two seasons go. With only five episodes remaining for this season Im not too optimistic that they can turn things around.


In a totally unrelated rant, does every girl that Tony encounters have to fall head over heels in love with him ? I mean, I know the guy has charisma, but come on now; it strecthes the credibility somewhat, IMO.

 

I liked the third season a lot but the entire season seemed to center around building enemies for Tony. Ritchie, the Russians, etc. And in that long, drawn out celebration at the last episode of the season I was sure someone was going to plug him. But nothing happened. From then on noithing's happened.

 

I understand that this series must be difficult to write, but at the same time Im positive that Chase and the other writers can come up with better stuff then they have of late.

 

I pretty much of an optimist so although it's slow now, I think it'll pick up soon.

The storyline about the Carmella/Florio romance is very interesting along with Tony's new girlfriend. I thought the suicide of his former mistress was a real a copout. She was looney enough to have been whacked.

I also agree the Russian lost in the woods story has to be completed.

 

That Russian in the woods episode was my favorite. Pauly was hilarious in that.

 

The best part of that episode was when Paulie was eating the ketchup packets like they were his last meal.


And I absolutely hate the Carmela/Furio situation. Its painfully obvious that the writers have nothing for these two to do, and it reeks of soap opera. One of the biggest examples of this very weak season, IMO.

 

I'm holding out hope that this is all setup for a very big payoff...

Ralphie's going to be getting mad at Tony. Paulie already is mad at him. Johnnie Sack has got reason to be upset. The councilman guy can't be too pleased. Chris is too messed up at this point to help anymore. Furio seems to think he needs to knock off Tony (only good thing that can come of the Carmela stuff...) The Russians may or may not come back. And in the middle of all of this, Tony might appear to be going soft just a bit.

I'm not going judge the season until its all over. In the end, there may be a lot of subtlety that is easy to overlook right now.

 

Does tonight's ultra-violence save the season for anyone?

Sure does for me. This epsiode was awesome...

 

Wow! Tonight's episode was a shocker. I didn't see that one coming!

I don't want to say anymore for you all who haven't seen it yet on the West coast but tonight is a crucial night to watch it.

 

You would have thought that after eighteen months off, Chase would have had enough time to write a good storyline.

Does anyone else find it funny that Ralphie died by being beaten and choked to death just like the way he killed that whoo are last season?

that whole scene made the series for me so far

partially the OTT violence, but mostly because of whats going to happen when people start asking questions.
