Watching ROTJ with the commentary on, I thought it was interesting how Lucas pointed out that window that is behind where Palpatine sits in his throne room. It is, indeed, shaped like a spider's web! Anyone ever notice this before? Pretty significant, as he lures Luke in.

It's also a perversion of the standard TIE cockpit windows, so it's Imperial but sinister.
    *shrugs*

btw, I only came in here because I thought the topic was "The Emperor's Widow" and I just *had* to see what crazy theory you'd come up with this time :p

Darth Vader, motioning toward the viewport: One day lad, all this'll be yours.

Luke: What? The slightly menacing circular viewport?

Vader: No, not the slightly menacing circular viewport. All that you can see, stretched out between all the stars. That'll be your kingdom lad.

    Luke: But mother--

    Vader: Father, lad. Father.

Luke: B-- but father, I don't want any of that.

Vader: Listen lad, I built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started here all there were were Jedi. Imperial officers said I was daft to build a Superweapon while there were still Jedi about, but I built one just the same, just to show 'em. It was destroyed by the Rebels. So, I built a second one. That was destroyed by the Rebels. So, I built a third one. That malfunctioned, shot on its own support craft then got destroyed by the Rebels, but the fourth one kept its shield up. And that's what you're going to get, lad. The strongest superweapon in this galaxy.

Luke: But I don't want any of that. I'd rather...

    Vader: Rather what?!

    Luke: I'd rather... Just sing!

Vader: No no, we'll not have any singing while I'm around. Remember what happened when your sister did in the Holiday Special?

Sorry, I think I had a point when I started typing that. Oh well...

I watched ESB and I though of spider webs in the Freezing chamber. A little more abstract, but I still see it.

One thing I never noticed until Lucas pointed it out was that that huge tower on the Death star was the Emperor's throne room. I've seen it tons of times, but never made that connection. And now that I can view it in all it's widescreen glory, I love being able to see the 2 other windows to the sides of the emperor (4 total, but the 4th is behind the camera).

    So awesome.

Damn I can't read, I thought this topic was
    "The Emperor's Widow"
I was like, "does he get married at the end of ROTS?"
I guess if the window is a spider web, he would be a black widow

Wasn't the same window on Cloud City during the Luke/vader duel as well?

Just wanted to say, loved the Monty Python spoof. If you can, finish off the scene.

Listen to the ROTJ commentary, the spider is luring flies to his web. There's the symbolism. I love the window in the throne room and in ESB.
