The fart joke, Jar Jar, and Sebulba: More than meets the eye?

I was watching TPM and noticed that right after the infamous Eopie/Jar Jar "fart joke," Sebulba sabotages Anakin's pod racer. Here is the revelation: The "fart joke" ran Jar Jar away from Anakin's pod, leaving it open to sabotage. If Jar Jar had still been standing where he was before the "fart joke," he would have seen what Sebulba did. It wouldn't have changed the outcome of the race; however, it paints the "fart joke" in a less frivolous light. It now seems to have a consequence.

I?m sure, the mere suggestion of such heresy puts me squarely behind the fan.

 

He left the pod because people not racing pods had to leave the track.

 

This is true; however, it really looked to me like he left sooner than he had to 'cause of the "fart joke," leaving Anakin's pod open to sabotage.

 

Wow, they should've played "Duel of the Fate" during that scene cause clearly this is the turning point of the Saga!

I always had my suspicions that the Eopie was in cahoots with Sebulba, I guess it's true now. Those Eopies are smrter then we give them credit for.

Even if that were GL's plot explanation for the stupid distraction, it's still stupid. On the whole I love TPM and don't mind Jar Jar too much, but this part is just stupid. It would have been easy to just have Jar Jar wandering off for some other reason. It's not like he's the most attentive person. I'm sure Sebulba could have figured out some way to distract him if he'd wanted to, as well.

In the version I have the eopie does his thing and Jar-jar just stands there, takes a whiff and then says "pee-u-sa," then it cuts to Sebulba sabotaging Anakins pod. I don't see Jar-jar run or walk away or anything.

 

If it wasn't the fart joke, it would have been something else that would have opened up a way for Sebulba to try to sabotage Anakin's pod.
