Ok, looking for the opinion of the community on this one. At first it is easy to say that Yoda loses his saber after the Palpatine fight, but something I noticed in the theater and confirmed while watching the DVD. You can notice something on Yoda's belt under his left arm as he jumps into Senator Organa's speeder. From what I can tell, Yoda has two things on his belt at that point, at least on this left side, the possible saber in question, and the confirmed comlink that he was using to communicate with Organa. Notice though that we see him place the comlink closer to the front of the belt, and the object that you are able to notice as he falls into the speeder is located farther to the left, under his arm, where his saber is kept.

Perhaps this question has been confirmed by GL in the commentary (haven't watched it with it yet), or perhaps it is just one of those things that we will never know for sure. Check out your DVDs and look for the item in question, tell me what you think. Perhaps we can get a posted image of the item, that should help us out.

He either got the saber back between an intercut shown or he never went back to get it and that pouch it for something else.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe Georgie has given us the answer to why Yoda does not train Luke with a lightsabre. Easily, I may now rest.

He didn't get his robe either.

He left them there on purpose to make it look like he was dead.
Anyway, Sidious knew that he won that duel.

I didn't notice anything on his belt. I do know that in the novelization, Yoda doesn't lose his Lightsaber and uses it to escape from the Stormtroopers.

As far as I'm concerned, Yoda lost his lightsaber forever in the Senate and someone on Coruscant has a Jedi relic.

Sidious knew that he won that duel.

I'd say it was more of a stalemate.

True, Yoda's "mission" was to kill the Sith lord and he failed.

Sidious didnt "lose" the duel but I wouldnt say he "won" either

This isn't about the duel and we can't let it progress that way. This was very specifically about Yoda's lightsaber. Thanks.

In one of the official books, it says that Yoda does own a lightsaber in the OT and keeps it in his hut in Dagobah.

"A new lightsaber, construct I must"

"Keep it in my hut I will"

Obi-Wan, Anakin, Sidious and Luke all construct and wield new lightsabers after losing their previous ones. So I see no reason why Yoda does not do the same.

One may struggle to find the parts required on Dagobah but then again..........

Nowhere did we see Yoda pick it up in the Senate. All he had time to do was escape and that's it. The lightsaber was gone and there was no time to retrieve it.

While I admit we didn't see him pick it up, I think he did.

"This is your life" - OWK. A jedi would not leave such a valueable asset just lying around. Thats why Obi-wan picked up Anakins and that is why Yoda could just have easily used the force to find his and quickly force grab it.

Obi-wan obviously has an ingrained sense of importance for lightsabers that was probably instilled in him from Yoda's training.

However none of this matters really, its whatever you want to believe. Lucas leaves it up to the viewers to determine the fate of Yoda's LS.

However on the flipside perhaps if Sidious found it that could lead him to believe that yoda was killed and maybe Yoda knew this.

Hmmmmm could go either way really. You could make tons of senarios up!

Unless he brought them with him.

It's one of those offscreen things that really doesn't matter. Where did Luke get the parts for his green saber? EU says that he got the parts in Obi Wan's hut on Tattooine. There's no cannon explanation for it, though.

This may sound like a catch-all, but Lucas did leave some things to the imagination. That's good. If we didn't have to use our imagination, what fun would it be? Do you "older" guys remember laying in bed after ANH came out, imagining what the Clone Wars were like, or wondering what Vader looked like under the outfit? I do. That was fun. So much has been spelled out now that there still has to be SOME things to imagine about. Don't be frustrated about it - enjoy it.

I pictured the clone wars more like "The 6th day" type stuff.Or clones killing thier templeates or vise versa.

    Sorry off topic.

This makes sense but it also shows even more why Yoda would not pick it upm if a lightsaber is his life, and he doesnt pick it up one may think he's dead.....[face_thinking]

Yoda dropped it, it would have been impossible for him to race around and find it and still escape the Shocktroopers in time. He escaped with his life and with the understanding that for him, the time of battling with lightsabers against the Sith was gone.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no way Yoda is going to Dagobah without a lightsaber or the materials to make one.

Sure, he's in "exile", but I"m sure he didn't assume he'd die there without having been found. Yoda wouldn't just head there with the clothes on his back.

Yoda could have picked up the parts he needed to build another saber before he went to live on dagobah.

I realize we never SEE Yoda pick it up off the senate floor, but notice the item that IS on his belt as he falls into the speeder.

I don't think he had time enough to pick up his cloak and lightsaber... I don't believe it was a matter of fooling the Emperor and pretending he was dead or missing...

Actually, Yoda was on a rush to leave the senatorial building...

After veiwing the DVD, i can honestly say i think it is yoda's jedi comlink on his belt, seeing as how you see and hear him turn on his 'homing beacon' just before he opens the hatch

I think it would be better if he didnt pick it up and here is my reason. When Vader kills Obi-Wan in ANH and tells the Emperor about how nothing was left but his cloak and lightsaber, it would make more sense that Palpatine never suspects any traing of Luke by Yoda, since he knew that those two were the only unaccounted for Jedi by ANH.
