We had a thread like this in the AOTC forum right after that came out, and I thought it would be interesting to have it here as well...

Before I join the discussion, does anyone have a link to an article with a direct qoute of Lucas saying that Star Wars is about how one generation makes up for the mistakes of the previous generation? Or something to that effect... I am looking for this qoute for a paper I am doing. Thanks.

and I'll tell you my fav scene after i have seen ROTS tommorow!

After the crawl, we follow the fighters until they reach an incredible sea of battle. Its visually stunning.

Anakin contemplates his war with himself as Padme reflects on events elswhere. This scene is accompanied by a beautiful score that is really dramatic ( kinda TROYish ).

The camera follows Obi Wan and the Bogs as it slips down slopes and structures. Tiiiight!!!

The birth paralell. This is insane. George has woke up his game on this one.

The duel. While the duel is more of a story element than it is an exhibition of cool saber moves Jedi stuff, it is epic. This is a most unique fight in the saga.

Oh yeah, Grevous. Everytime hes on the screen. When he first makes his entrance he gets a cool angle and he truly embodies the "mustache twirling villain" to a Tee. Directed greatly.

Padme is hiding in the shadows until her an Anakin can be together. The dialog here is good and Hayden carries the scene for him and Portman. Good directing homeboy.

Not sure about top five, but the best scene in the whole film was everything from Padmé and Anakin embracing on Mustafar to "You will try!" and the following part of The Duel.

Palpatine talking to Anakin in his chamber (unnatural speech).

    Vadaer's first breath

When anaking realizes Palpatine is the sith lord and draws the saber while he circles him.

    Order 66

Senator Organana, relaizing he needs to go....quickly

The 2 duels at the end round out the 5 for me.

    There are so many more......

    Just after Obi-Wan dismembers Anakin...

"You were the chosen one! You were supposed to destroy the sith, not join them!... You were a brother to me! I loved you!"

That just blew me away. The anguish of loss... It's up there with Luke chopping Vader's hand off then throwing away his saber.

IMHO, the "Order 66" scene is the best scene in ANY of the Star Wars movies. It was just incredible...

yoda blasting sidious lighting back to him, and him throwing his saber into a clone.

the entire final duel, from the fight to what obi wan says at the end.

the youngling that took out like 8 clones.

"order 66" was the saddest in my opinion

    count dooku's hands and head

    Order 66 was the awesome.

There was something dramatic about Ki Adi yelling come on to the troopers and running along, then it shows the troopers feet running and then coming to an abrupt stop. Ki Adi takes care of a few droids turns around, and BOOM! He tries to defend himself but he is killed.

Then Ayala's death was also quite sad they shot her, killed her, and then continues to shoot her.

George has woke up his game on this one.

No, he just finally is able to show everything he's been waiting to show us :) Watching TPM and AOTC now, they're so tame, and only give a taste of what the characters will go through. they show the lighthearted galaxy - a galaxy that does not know war...like the hell that is coming to them in ROTS. perfect :)

    Order 66 was amazing

The one shot that I loved was the one where the Invisble Hand has just landed and is flying toward the camera and it zooms in on OB, Anakin and Palpatine

    What a film!!

    1. Order 66, not only one of the most effective and moving scenes in both trilogies but possibly one of the best in film, period.
    2. The final duel. Well-choreographed, well-shot, great acting by Ewan and Hayden.
    3. The opening. George has given us a lot of amazing space battles and, from a purely visual standpoint, this one's as good as it gets.
    4. The creation of the Empire juxtaposed with Anakin killing Nute Gunray and company.
    5. The end sequence. Of all the Star Wars silent tableaux, this one managed to pack so much into such brief clips, looking forward to ANH without bashing you over the head with reminders.

Padme's and Anakin thinking of each other across Courscant

The space battle and landing on the Invisible Hand

Anakin force jumping onto the lava bed as Obi-Wan slahes his legs and hand . Almost everyone in the theater gasped at that scene.

Order 66 / Jedi temple purge . People were scream he didn't kill the kids did he ? Everyone was so into it.

Padme trying to get Anakin back on Mustafar . I held on and didn't cry there even though I wanted to.

    1. The opening was just incredible. What visually stunning artistry.

    2. Foreshadowing of Anakin's demise in Anakin's "Padme dream sequences", Grievious' explosive and fiery death, and R2's torching of a group of droids.

    3. Grievious is like something straight out of a comic book, given life.

    4. Yoda with the Wookies. Just loved their interaction.

    5. Yoda. Yoda. Yoda. Did I mention Yoda?

1.) Padme and Anakins meeting after Palpatine's rescue.

2.) Palpatine tempting Anakin/confessing he's the Sith Lord

3.) Padme and Anakin's longing/thinking of each other where Anakin contemplates whether or not to help Palpatine

4.) Order 66 being carried out.

5.) Padme/Anakin/Obi-Wan on Mustafar right to the duel.

What can one say of a film that had near flawless delivery. I must confess that the acting by both Hayden and Natalie was not only superior to AOTC but quite moving and wonderfully executed. Having said that it is hard to list the top five, but here is a list of scenes that had a lasting impression:

    1. Padme and Anakin contemplating their destinies - while Mace is confronting Palpatine (all the while Padme's Ruminations playing in the background)

    2. Anakin confronting Palpatine about being the Dark Lord they have been searching for. Palpatine literally tranforms before our eyes into the Emperor we have come to know and love from ROTJ.

    3. Opera Scene where Palpatine is narrating the story of Plagieus (his mentor?).

    4. The final montage - Vader, Emperor and crew overlooking construction of the Death Star, Twins find their new homes, Dual sunsets. (I wish that there was some dialogue especially when Kenobi drops Luke off at the Lars Homestead but alas Lucas has admitted that his films are more visual and musical than dialogue driven).

    5. Anakin and Padme reunion after he returns from the Palpatine rescue. The acting was amazing and both actors make their chemistry quite believeable.

There are others but you asked for five....

I have to say the opening just blew me away. Everything from the first part up until the meet Dooku again (at which point the quality decreases).

The defaning boom-BOOM of the soundtrack and how it just doesn't stop. Somehow... Lucas conveyed an engaging war scene that did not move me to excitement like those in the original series or earlier in the prequels, but sadness. I got the very poignant feel of lives being wasted in a useless conflict that nobody really knows why they're fighting.

    1) Order 66 - painful to watch, but AMAZING!

    2) The Mace/Palpatine confrontation and Anakin's official conversion to the Dark Side

    3) Anakin becoming Darth Vader as he has the mask put on

    4) The two ending scenes, on Alderaan with Leia and on Tatooine with Luke - nice, as they complete the circle

    5) ex-aequo, two small little moments I absolutely loved: a) when we see the Emperor and Darth Vader together, looking at the construction of the Death Star, and b)when they announce to Threepio he'll have his memory erased. That surely explains a lot! (lol) A classic!

    - if I could add a sixth one, it would be the moment when the clones, just about to murder Yoda are killed by him and he flees on Chewbacca's back. Hehe! -

    1. The opening with the camera following Obi-Wan and Anakin into the battle.

    2. Padme and Anakin staring in each other's direction and Anakin making the choice to disobey Maces's orders.

    3. Order 66 and seeing the jedi purge.

    4. Padme's death and funeral intercut with Anakins transformation into mechanical Vader.

    5. Vaders force rage scene with Palpatine looking on.

There are many other scenes that stand out but these are my favorite five, at least for my initial viewing. I'd really need to see it a couple of more times before I could come up with my definitive picks.

Order 66 being carried out was amazing. It was sad to see them all go.

The Darth Plagueis history lesson in the Theater box with Anakin and Palpatine. It was very interesting and Palpatine is great here.

The births of the twins and Vader

Padme and Anakin both comtemplating the events surrounding them at the same time in different places.

Close-up of Grievous with talking to Obi-Wan

I guess I have to add on anything on Mustafar and Kashyyyk. :p

    I can't pick five scenes!!

Order 66 - I am a huge fan of Ki-Adi-Mundi, and when the camera swooped in on Mygeeto, my heart sank. What a horrible, desolate, and depressing place to die. The look on his face as he realised what was about to happen... the music... wow.

Bail Organa with his wife on Alderaan - this is the first time I've felt an emotional connection to Bail.

I can't think of two more... It's all so overwhelming.
