There's been a few of these. So please post your opinion of what the most disgusting moment in a SW novel so far and why you think it's that moment. Personally, I can't choose between the Rodian bounty hunter's assassination methods in Rebel Dawn or Wedge's reference to hosing down the superheated remains of human tissues from the X-wing cockpit in Wraith Squadron. Any others you feel warrant a mention? Post 'em up!

Lieutenant Barth's death in Tyrant's Test. Don't remember it? Allow me to refreash your memory:

    *********************************************

"Please, do something-tell him you've changed your mind-"

"Get a grip on yourself lieutenant," Han said grimly. "He doesn't deserve to enjoy this."

The viceroy moved closer, his fighting crests becoming engorged until they seemed to be two crimson slashes from ear to ear. "You vermin wish to teach me a lesson," said Nil Spaar. "I will offer you one in return. You think you have accepted the price in blood for your choice. We will see if that is so."

With a slash of his right claw, Nil Spaar ripped open Barth's bare torso from hip to shoulder, shattering ribs, pulling soft organs from their cavities. Barth's scream, a horrible, inhuman sound of immeasurable agony, was cut short when his lungs were rent by the claw and collapsed with a grisly wheeze.

For too long a moment, the sight held Han transfixed, every detail burning into his memory. Then his stomach heaved, and he turned away, choking on a bitter taste.

"Perhaps you understand us a little better now," Nil Spaar said, stepping back and absently sucking the blood from his claw.

With effort, Han found his voice. "You b******."

"Your opinion of me is of no consequence, and never has been," the viceroy said, and looked to one of his aides. "When you are finished here, have him moved to my ship."

    "Yes,
darama," said the aide. Then he and the others knelt differentially, almost reverently, as Viceroy Nil Spaar left the chamber.

Han raised his head and forced himself to look at Barth. The white pants were sodden crimson drapes hanging from the flight engineer's legs. The pool of blood and other bodily fluids below him had grown to the point where it was threatening to engulf Han's feet. Something in the spill of organs on Barth's lap was still twitching or pulsing.

I'm sorry, Barth, he thought, working to conceal his anguish as carefully as his fury, determined not to parade either before his audience. I was wrong about us seeing Coruscant again. I didn't know. I didn't know until now what a monster he is.

Sorry, Rogue_Ten, haven't read BFC trilogy yet. But I do want to read it and the Corellian trilogy. I've just finished the Han Solo trilogy.

InyriForge, I'll have to agree with you that the Krytos virus is pretty disgusting. But I think that being impaled on micron thin wire which slices up your body because of your momentum has a bit more, ugh factor than Krytos.

Luke and Mara soap opera scenes.. :p

No, it was where the slaves have to "rub the ship to make it go faster" What was that in? I forgot.

Almost all the Vong stuff is disgusting, with all the snot, and blood, and slithering, pulsing things. I usually skip over those parts. I can almost smell foul smells when I read it. I picture a zoo-type environment.

    Haha! This thread's hilarious...

Here's a scene with a more subtle ICK factor going on. From Jedi Eclipse.

    *************************************

"The same stuff for every meal, for every species."

Fasgo nodded. "One gruel fits all." He eyed the untouched bowl Sapha had set aside. "You going to eat that?" he asked finally.

    "Help youself," she told him.

He did, ravenously, only ceasing his spooning to remark, "You'll learn to tolerate it. Besides, it's the only way you'll keep up your strength."

"Answer me this," Sapha said. "The Yuuzhan Vong employ organic technology where we use machines, correct?"

    "Thus far," Roa said.

"Then they don't use machines or droids to prepare this stuff."

    "I wouldn't think so."

"And yet I haven't seen any chefs, or any kitchen staff. So who prepares it?"

Fasgo stopped eating, his spoon in midar, to exchange glances with Roa. "Critters," he said to Sapha. "Creatures."

Sapha gazed at the thin grey gruel. "Creatures cook this?"

Again, Roa and Fasgo swapped glances. "In a manner of speaking," Roa said delicately.

Rogue 10 beat me to it.

Other memorable mentions have to include the whole x-wing series. MAS gets into pretty graphic detail describing how stormtroopers die. Smashed faceplates. Broken skulls. Vomiting blood and the like.

How about this (from the scene where Leia kills Beldorion in Planet of Twilight)? And you thought Hutts were yucky while they're alive... [face_mischief]

    ************************
Like a huge serpent he struck, and she raised her blade to defend, her mind open to the Force, feeling before he did so that he was going to switch to lateral again.
He did, and she was in under the blow and slashing a long, streaming, sidelong cut that went through the soft green body like burning wire. She flung herself past him, away from him, fast, for the huge bulk of him burst open, severed clean through, mammoth gouts of fluid and flesh and organs exploding soddenly forth.
She heard him bellow in rage, once ? saw the hot smoke-colored blade of his lightsaber go whirling, end over end.
Then he was collapsing like a punctured balloon, like an empty sack, and Leia stood panting, covered in slime, as Luke flung himself out from under the Headhunter and into its cockpit.

    **********************

And I agree about the Krytos Virus... [face_eek!]

And for "a more subtle ICK factor" ;) - the references to Isard having been Palpatine's lover (in the X-Wing books). [face_mischief] Iceheart must've had a strong stomach... :D ;)

Most desgusting moment: When the old, shriveled, wrinkled nightsister in Courtship of PL pulls off her shirt for Teneniel Djo, and then begins stroking her own breasts.

Gory moment: Definately not the worst, but the 100-something page torture sequence in Star by Star was pretty bad, even though it was probably more painful than bloody for the victims, the descriptions were vivid enough to get a sense of what the Jedi, especially Jaina and Ulaha Kore were going through.

I have to go with the stroking of the yammosk in Jedi Eclispe. When i pictured that I almost vomited.

Anakin's death sequence, from beginning to end, was pretty gross as well.

I agree with the Krytos virus. Especially the Gamorrean that Gavin happens upon. That was so disgusting and SAD at the same time.

The "oven" scene in Solo Command when someone slips in Face's blood. Ew.

The talk about "tickling" the villips. I detect some, uh....self-love overtones here...

OK. That's a few pretty icky moments in there. Let's change the question slightly. In addition to the most disgusting moment you can think of in any SW novel, add the most disgusting moment you can think of in a book. Not overall, but in each book. So far, we have:
the effects of the Krytos virus on Gammorreans in The Krytos Trap

the t'landa Til being sliced up in Rebel Dawn
the "oven" scene in Solo Command, superheated tissues in Wraith Squadron

Lieutenant Barth's death in Tyrant's Test

    Corran's stabbing in Ruin

The Jedi Ecplise stroking yammosk and food...

I'm pretty sure there's a ickier scene in Traitor

Leia killing Beldorian in Planet of Twilight

The old, shriveled Nightsister in The Courtship of Princess Leia

Any others you want to add?

The Krytos Virus, any scenes where it's shown what the virus does to it's victims. Everything else I read, including descriptions of what happened to folks in BFC, failed to cause me to become sick to my stomach when I read them. But the Krytos Virus succeded where no others did. I even had to put down The Krytos Trap for a bit when I first read the scenes describing what the victims looked like going through the various stages to keep from vomiting. All I could think of when first reading KT was that the virus sounded like the SW version of ebola. Still does, in fact. And I still view the early violence level of the NJO as taking all of Stackpole's descriptions of the Krytos virus, putting them on cd, then putting the cd on continuous play without stopping it.

Speaking of the BFC, does everyone remember the rather "Alienisque" vision of the Yvethan "creche" system?

Caniballistic blood sacrifices used to nurture the unborn young in their slimey seed pods?

Or better yet, the description of Chewie blasting each one into gory lil' mounds? ;)
