Disclaimer: I own NOTHING it all belongs to George Lucas and I?m getting no money for it so don?t sue.

Summary: Approximately three years after Episode III, Darth Vader and Palpatine visit Alderaan. Vader is accompanied by one of his Noghri bodyguards. This is a sort of prequel to my story ?BETWEEN US? it?s a NJO AU and the link is in my signature. At the moment this is a one shot, but if people like it, I?ll either add to it or possibly make a series out of it. I leave room at the end for both possibilities, but to see what I mean you?ll have to read it, please?:)

AUTHOR NOTES: First Noghri are know to be able to smell ?BLOODLINES.? Second ?Mal?ary?ush? is the Noghri term for the daughter of Darth Vader. Last for anyone who reads both this and "Between Us" a brief explanation. I know the timeline would make one character very old. However if I continue this his age and why he's in both stories will be explained. If I don't do it here, rest assured I will do it in "Between Us" or a sequal. Ok so enough talk and on with the fic, enjoy.

    The Guardian Of Clan Vader

The Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader stood motionless at his master?s side. His towering frame and steady mechanical breathing were enough to frighten even the bravest of creatures. The Dark Lord, paid close attention as his master Emperor Cos Palpatine spoke to Viceroy Bail Organa. Vader would never admit it but he held a grudging respect for Organa. The man sat across the table from his master and yet, Vader sensed almost no fear. Vader himself had sadly been forced to admit that unlike Organa, he did fear his master.

Suddenly Vader?s head snapped to the right as an odd sensation swept over him. He just barely glimpsed a trail of white fabric as it vanish around a carved marble corner. Vader chastised himself mentally for allowing himself to be distracted. Still there was an odd sensation flowing through the Force that stirred something in him. Calling on the darkside to steady his nerves, Vader focused his attention back on his master. Soon enough the meeting between his master and the Viceroy ended. As his master and he walked from the ornate throne room, Palpatine spoke.

?Something is troubling you, Lord Vader.? It was a statement of fact not a question for his servant.

?An odd sensation in the Force, it was...unsettling My master.?

Beneath the dark cowl that he now wore openly the Emperor smiled a cruel smile. ?With the New Order almost fully established, meetings like this will soon be irrelevant. I cannot say when you or I will return to this place, Lord Vader. Take our remaining time here and seek out the source of this sensation. I believe the challenge will do you good, my friend. When you have located the source of this sensation, report to me at once, Lord Vader.?

    ?Yes my master.?

With that the Emperor flanked by his red robed guards headed off towards his shuttle to meditate. The Dark Lord scanned his surroundings trying to get a feel for the palace. Alderaan and it?s capital Aldera were physically beautiful for certain. Alderaan had wonderful sandy beaches and fields full of wildflowers. Green rolling hills as far as the eye could see and the strong stone cliffs upon which it?s cities were built. However none of these things held much importance to Vader at least not now. Stretching out with the Force Vader began his journey down a long marble hallway. He had seen other hallways like this in his time. If not for a few cultural differences, he could have been walking the palace hallways in Theed.

There it was again, that odd sensation that made his head spin. This time Vader?s head turned left where large glass double doors lead into the royal gardens. Walking with purpose and increasing speed Vader passed through the open doors. The gravel crunched under the power of his step as he entered the gardens. His black cape blowing majestically in the summer breeze as his head turned side to side. Three paths lay before him and for some reason the Force seemed to cry out from each of them.

Good story! I loved the tension of not knowing what the Noghri would do, and little Leia with Vader was sweet. I think this could be expanded into an interesting story.

It's a cool vignette and the Noghri are a fascinating race. I wonder how will Vader react? What would a Noghri do in case of a conflict like that, would they be driven to suicide? I hope not. :) Please, do continue.

AUTHOR NOTES: First here is Kohvrekhar?s history from the ?Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia.?

    Kohvrekhar
this Noghri accompanied Darth Vader during the search for Luke Skywalker, following the Battle of Hoth. Vader ordered Kohvrekhar to Tatooine, to ensure that Jabba the Hutt and his henchmen didn't capture or kill Skywalker. (SESB)

Second I forgot to mention this before but the ~~...~~~ represents internal monologues.

Last, I always go for quality over length, so my apologies if my post seem short.

    CHAPTER 2: DEVOTION

Kohvrekhar of clan Bakh?tor, knelt before his master Darth Vader expecting death at any moment. Kohvrekhar had not explained why he failed to kill Viceroy Organa?s daughter. Likewise he had shown no remorse and had never once begged for forgiveness. Kohvrekhar of clan Bakh?tor had admitted only what his honor allowed. He told his master that he had found the child but had for reasons of his own refused to kill her.

As Vader?s Lambda-class shuttle sped towards his Star Destroyer Vengeance. The Dark Lord Vader thought hard about the days events. His first thoughts drifted to his master the Emperor. Palpatine would already be on board the Vengeance having left earlier in his own shuttle. What was Vader going to tell him about the source of the strange sensation he had felt. In truth Vader was no more understanding of what it was now then before.

Quickly however his mind came back to the present and Kohvrekhar of clan Bakh?tor. The Noghri had failed and worse he had disobeyed Vader?s orders. All who knew the Dark Lord knew he needed little provocation to kill. Vader however was slightly uneasy with the idea of killing his Noghri servant. Kohvrekhar of clan Bakh?tor had failed twice this day but still there was something about him. He had first failed to notice the approach of Vader?s potential assassin in the gardens. Vader growled beneath his mask at the memory of how slow Kohvrekhar had been to react. His would be killer should never have been allowed to get that close to him. If that were not enough this Noghri had defied his direct instructions and spared Organa?s daughter. Vader felt anger rise in him when he thought about Kohvrekhar?s refusal to explain himself.

Kohvrekhar remained silent his eyes open but focused on the floor of the shuttle. He knew his death would be shameful and most likely brutal but it didn?t matter. He would not break his word to a member of clan Vader and betray his master?s daughter and her mother. He didn?t know what relationship there was between Lady Vader on his Lordship and he didn?t care. His Noghri senses could smell both their scents in the child?s blood and that was enough for him. He would not dishonor himself and his clan by choosing sides in a ?clan dispute.? He was sworn to serve clan Vader and to him that meant the whole clan. All he could do now was offer his life to his master in penance. If possible his willingness to die would allow him to die with some honor intact.

Vader continued to stare at his servant who knelt at his feet. Kohvrekhar of clan Bakh?tor should already be dead, Vader thought coldly. Still this one had been the most skilled of the Noghri warriors Vader had inspected. His raw talent when it came to the hunt was unmatched among his people. Kohvrekhar had shown incredible potential but his methods were crude and undisciplined. Vader thought that in many ways Kohvrekhar was much the same way Anakin Skywalker had once been. He was reckless and rash but with great if unrefined skill. It was true that Vader had killed many competent underlings for one small error but he didn?t waste talent. Also there was his devotion to consider. Vader knew that nearly all Imperials feared him and that all Noghri worshipped him but Kohvrekhar was different. Oh he had his typical Noghri honor debt but his devotion to Vader seemed more...personal than that. If Vader spared his life after having failed twice there would be nothing that would break his loyalty. It was true that a lesser being might consider this an invitati

NamelessAlien: I'm glad you like it, thanks. The Noghri are one of the main reasons that I like Vader as a character. Sorry I didn't post this above but I just missed it. Hope you like the new post.

PatttyB0123: I'm always glad for your continued support of my fics. Glad you liked the new post. Yes he is very very lucky indeed and now Padme is in his sights.

searth_99: Well actually Vader isn't sure who his attacker is except that it's a "she." Padme is in deep trouble either way but your right Leia is safe. Thanks for the review

Csillan_girl: Yep when Vader spots talent, he doesn't waste it. I believe your right about the ship. I'll probably change it to the "Devastator" soon.

AUTHOR ANNOUNCEMENT: I would like to apologize to all my readers but this fic is going on hiatus. I had hoped to keep both my current fics going but I simply can't. My life has become rather chaotic recently. I am not even sure if I can handle one let alone two fics. I hope that I will be able to come back to this someday but it probably won't be for a while. I would like to thank everyone who R/R this fic, you've been great. I invite anyone who likes my writing to check out my clone wars fic currently in progress. If I can find the time to remain active on the boards, that's where I'll be. Again I hate having to do this but I simply can't juggle two fics and the other one came first. I hope you all understand and as I said all are welcome at "What I Know."
