Star Wars The High Republic: The Acolyte: The Final Contract, the Free Trade War, and One Last Politician

To the dismay of everyone involved, King Veruna won the elections after the death of Queen Helena. A constitutional monarchy was established, abolishing the hereditary system. Only a truly worthy monarch could be elected to a hereditary rule. Four year terms, with the option for mid-terms, they came into being.

Progress, both forward and backwards.

Willem Graul had won a second term, for his handling of the final end of the Naboo-Gungan War. He ran, according to the future histories, from 124 BBY to 120 BBY, and now, from 120 BBY to the current year - 118 BBY.

The minor, almost trivial legislation pressed upon Willem as a condition of his elevation has become controversial at best.

The Free Trade Zones had been created six years ago to jump-start legitimate commerce in the hopes of ending the political isolation, stagnation and crime that had gripped the Outer Rim. Twenty sectors were chosen to develop.

In that respect, it has been wildly successful - but whereas political engagement and resources flowed to the Core, it also enriched the cartels, namely the Trade Federation, which now had control of seven Outer Rim sectors. But another thirteen had been developed by the Banking Clan, Commerce Guild, Corporate Alliance and Techno Union - increasing profits and growth which had funneled straight into the Core.

Now, Mid Rim sectors are beginning to fall behind their Outer Rim neighbours, and the five cartels, what with their seats in the Core and Colonies, are encouraging for the expansion of the Free Trade Zones. Expansion of their power… and the Core and Rim Factions are, nominally, in accord, what with several Senators said to be on their payroll. Senator O'Loingsigh and Senator Damask commanding each Faction, respectively, rivals in all ways but one.

Six sectors are up for debate… including the one containing Naboo; the Chommel Sector. Senator Ederlathh Palpatine is arguing strongly against it being a made tax-free zone to maintain its independence... and so the Viceroy of the Trade Federation proposes a summit to air grievances.

Especially when the Bounty Hunters Guild posts a contract to protect the Trade Summit… in Theed.

It is said that Rugess Nome has been almost constantly on the move since the Second Battle of Naboo...

... that the Mandalorians have grown divided between Mandalore and Tor Viszla, when he isn't acting as a mercenary with his colleagues.

What of the Jedi? Criticized, but surviving, at what point will their separation from the Senate be over?

It is the time to get to the bottom of this, once and for all.
