Edward Norton is The Incredible Hulk!

Edward Norton has been set by Marvel Studios to play Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk.

The Louis Leterrier-directed film will be distributed by Universal Pictures on June 13, 2008. The movie will shoot this summer in Toronto.

Norton takes over a role played in the Ang Lee-directed Hulk by Eric Bana. Though that film opened strongly, it didn't fare as well as other Marvel efforts, including Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four and, most recently, Ghost Rider.

Marvel Studios, which has a $525 million credit facility obtained through Merrill Lynch, made The Incredible Hulk its second film under that arrangement, and seeks to make a sequel that is less self-serious and more in line with the comic series and TV show. Leterrier directed the action-filled Transporter and its sequel, as well as Unleashed.

The new movie begins with Banner on the run, trying to avoid capture long enough to cure the condition that turns him into a misunderstood green menace.

"Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business," Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige said in a statement. "His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the bigscreen in a new and exciting way."

The script for The Incredible Hulk was written by Zak Penn, who had a hand in crafting two "X-Men" films and Fantastic Four for Marvel.

The movie is being produced by Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel's Feige. Jim Van Wyck, David Maisel, Ari Arad and Stan Lee are executive producing.

Interesting casting choice there... [face_thinking] [/color]

I'm still unclear on whether this is an actual sequel or not.

This is pathetic. Instead of remaking classic films or releasing sequels within years of the original, we are now at the point when we're producing remakes of craptastic films from 4 years ago.

Bah. Eric Bana filled the roll nicely. Eric Bana Hulk would wipe the floor with Ed Norton Hulk.

    I love Edward Norton!

    But not the Hulk.

I will still see this though. Interesting.

I think the term "remake" is used loosely as both Marvel and Universal seem desperate to seperate themselves and the current project from the previous one, that many fans are still upset about.

I believe its more akin to Batman Begins where its not really stated whether its a sequal or a restart. The idea would be that they don't negate what happened before but just try to move on and focus on the character and his unfortunate duality.

The news that Ed Norton is taking over the role sounds promising to me and I am over joyed that a major production is filming here after the PR disaster after the SARS scare. Perhaps the local industry can get back on its feet. Its a shame that post won't be happening here as I will be graduating from the Toronto Film School as they wrap production.

Umm, I think it was made quite clear that Batman Begins is a restart and it quite clearly negates what happened before. That my friend, is the nature of the beast that is called a "reboot".

I heard he turns green in this one, but that could be a false studio rumor.

Fool, every hardcore fan knows that the hulk should be grey this early in his career.

Do you have any citation or a link to something that specifically says its unrelated? I'm curious as I only ever recall the filmmakers being vague about whether or not Begins relates to the previous films.

Batman Begins is definatley a clean reboot, especially considering that it's upcoming sequel deals with the Joker, a character dealt with and killed in the original Batman film chronology.

On the other hand, you could drag up almost any article or interview related to the movie and discover that it is in fact a reset of the franchise.

I hope it doesn't tie to the other one. I enjoyed Ang Lee's Hulk alright, it was entertaining, but it's probably best that this project acts independently. Norton should make for a much better Banner than Bana in any case. Norton's a pretty picky actor, he has a very nice track record, something must have caught his interest. I'm a big Hulk comic book fan so I'll see it no matter what.

Again all I find is the filmmakers being non-specific and the term "vague continuity" being thrown about. But since I have no interest in derailing the thread I will let it go.

There is certainly room for this to be a sequel, but there are so many people left with a bitter taste in their mouth that its likely the filmmakers will try to separate themselves from the previous project.

Its a shame since I was one of the few who liked the original. I was disapointed in the abandonment of the Jekyl/Hyde arc, but thought the bias towards character developement over action and "Hulk Smash" created a far more compelling story, marred only by the weak ending.

I think the "vague continuity" quotes you remember relate to Superman Returns, and not Batman Begins.

The actor who plays the Hulk, shouldn't have the physique to play Hector in Troy.

Now they just need to cast Gary Busey as Norton's zany out-of-control father and we've got a sure winner!

An actor's physique can change rather rapidly.
