The planet seen at the beginning of the trailer might be Onderon. Can't help myself thinking that the town is Iziz and part of the plot is about Onderon getting conquered by the empire. Eventually setting up Saw Gerrera becoming the notorious rogue rebel we know in Jedi Fallen Order, Rebels and Rogue One. Mod EDIT: Modified thread for more general use.
The town looks a lot smaller than Iziz to me and with a different architectural style, and by the time Andor really starts he will have left Onderon long ago, and per Rogue One he doesn't have any connection to Saw, hence why they needed Jyn. Plus, there is a lego set coming out which implies the town we see in much of the trailer and/or the planet it is on is called Ferrix: https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/ambush-on-ferrix-75338 Though we do see something of a more tropical planet also in the trailer, which I suppose could be Onderon...
I don’t understand this recent fan theory about the planet being Onderon, as it looks…absolutely nothing like Onderon. It has a red-brick almost late 19th century industrial style to it, whereas Onderon is like ancient Egypt. Completely different style and vibe.
Planet in the beginning is very probably new world Ferrix. We see it many times in the trailer and it is one of the main locales apparently. I don't think it is. I rather not see Onderon if they are not going to give it weirder and more exotic look like in TCW. With purple palm trees and weird flora and fauna. And I didn't see any tropical locales there. We have arboreal world or two, oceans, city that is possibly Coruscant (or Chandrila) And besides while Saw is Onderonian Cassian might have never even been on Onderon so there are no special need to see Onderon in this show. It may be later but in trailer there were mostly barren scrapyard/factory world of Ferrix, forested world, oceans that may be on same world as forests (or even that scrapyard if they introduce planet with multiple biomes) or not. Saw actually leaves Onderon very quickly after Empire takes over there. He is wanted man already after order 66 since he was ally of the jedi and doesn't accept the Imperial rule at all. He is seen fighting with Wookiees on Kashyyyk 5 years after order 66. He does try to take over Onderon at some point with army of mercenaries mentioned by Kallus. Fan theories are often not that accurate.... I agree Onderon is based on ancient Roman architecture mostly (that has egyptian influences), while so is most of our current architecture on Earth I see nothing especially Onderonian there. Looks more like Jedha to be honest. Sure they use same resources so it's not surprising though, but new added red brick elements surely remind me too of late 19th century/ early 20th century factories. Since it is planet of metal workers I assume that is the theme. It is a factory world. Even planet's name Ferrix probably comes from Ferrum which is iron in latin. It's probably more like Bracca than Onderon, world on which old Republic/Confederate machinery is melt down to produce new imperial war machines like walkers, star destroyers and tie fighters. Maybe a proud independent factory world once now made to imperial scrapyard and workers are unhappy with it. Too bad there don't seem to be those giant Venator wrecks as in concept art. Or maybe they just didn't reveal it in trailer. It can be they were not able to make it look good with tv-budget.
There were some interesting rumors about familiar worlds and species returning in another thread. Naboo would be pretty interesting and everybody is eagerly waiting if beloved Jar Jar appears of course. I think it would be interesting experiment to see if appearance of Jar Jar would be enough to make show unpopular.
With the book Brotherhood out and explored the Neimodian culture, I love if Andor did something with them post ROTS.
Jar Jar is a fairly complex CGI character, which are expensive, and we haven’t seen much of that in the live-action D+ Star Wars, sadly. The Hutts and Luke in TBOBF were about as elaborate they’re able to go it seems, but maybe Andor will kick things up a notch. I’d been hoping for Sebulba in the Obi-wan show but now I’m tempering expectations.
I am honestly looking forward to seeing Cassian’s snowy home world of Fest, mostly because I want to eventually see every level from Rogue Squadron on N64 in live action and we got Kessel and Corellia so far.
I would like to see how well they could do studio jungle nowadays. Like how Dagobah was made. Felucia or Trandosha with props in studio with CGI magic could produce interesting alien locations. Not sure if it's worth the risk of looking bad in the end though, but this is something they haven't done and I would like to see alien worlds that are nothing like any real-life locations on earth. I think it could look good at least in theory. Sure it may cost a lot too and it's cheaper to go and film outside. But it depends I guess. Just an idea.
So did we see any new ones in the trailer? Some scrapyards- could be the same planets as already mentioned though...
Seems like the Empire is strip mining Ferrix (?). That kid is looking over a vast open cast mining operation framed by dead trees.
Yep, my bad. Ferrix (typical SW wordplay) is the scrapyard planet which features the most in the trailers. It's where Rael lands his ship, then speeds across the 'paddy fields', where the guy hammers his gong, where the blue guards are, where the riot troopers are, where Dedra looks at the holo-table, where the woman is arrested, where Cassian and Rael have their speeder chase, etc.
All very captivating, I know I was thinking Dantioone for Mina Rau. We don't see much of the test facility Sienar and Chandrilla is just the decorated palace.
The name of Mina-Rau reminds me of Mina Harker in Dracula - and her adaptational counterpart Ellen Hutter in Nosferatu, who lures the vampire to his death by letting him feed on her until sunrise. And "Rao" is the name of the red sun of Krypton in Superman lore. Still a strange name, at any rate...
I love that they used Montserrat for the Mothma estate. It certainly felt otherworldly when I visited it, so very good choice for a world that's exotic but not too crazy.
