Couldn't find an existing thread, so if there is one then the mods can lock this. Despite it being so close to Skyrim, I felt like playing a more hack'n'slash guided experience, so gave it a try. It felt pretty clunky at first, but having put a few hours into it I'm getting a bit hooked on it. There's a few strange mechanics, but I see the game was mainly built around the three player co-op experience, so playing it solo does feel a bit disjointed. I'm playing through as the elf Andriel, and I've gone down the melee/dual wielding staff and sword branch, and she's an absolute killing machine. The combat is super fun, lots of black orc blood and severed limbs flying everywhere. The dialogue is a bit flat, but does the job I suppose. Awesome graphics though, the environments (Rivendell!) look amazing. Pity there's absolutely no one on my friends list playing it though.
I read initial reviews and it kinda got a 'meh' reaction. I love LotR so I'm hoping to pick it up when the price drops. Glad to hear you're enjoying it.
I played a bit, but set it aside in favor of Skyrim. Definitely going to get back to it though, the hack 'n slash can be kinda fun and I love LOTR I did find swapping between characters and dealing with companion's inventory clunky. Couldn't figure out if the intention was to stick with one guy or change once in a while.
Yeah that's the only part I don't like. I really couldn't figure out why it is the way it is (like each character's appearance and equipment resetting when you choose a different character), it's probably due to the co-op nature of it. That's why I decided to play through as one character, keeps it feeling consistent at least, and will hopefully motivate me to play through again as someone different.
Thought I'd share. I'm in chapter seven and I die. No problem, right? I'll just restart from the last checkpoint. Well, it turns out my game decides it would like to freak out. The game reloads but it starts me back at the exact point where I died the last time. Then it reloads again and I die again and again...So I get stuck in this never ending loop of death. And I'm like "Oooookaaayy." So I quit the game entirely and restart again. This time I'm where I'm supposed to be, unfortunately all of the enemies in the game seem to have collectively decided to take a break. I'm in this courtyard that should be overrun with orcs and goblins but it's just me and my two companions. But the weird thing is that the battle music is still playing and there are still those background explosions going off. This is painful. I'm at level 20 and it looks like I'll have to restart from the beginning
Great news! I managed to "fix" my save by deleting the most recent patch. It restarted me where I was supposed to be and I was able to progress normally. Although, I do think chapter 7 in general is pretty terrible. Just badly designed. But then I got ANOTHER seemingly game breaking bug. After I was able to finish chapter 7, I went to Rivendale to finish the Lidless Eye quest. When I decided to go back to Nordinbad I was taken to that courtyard in chapter 7 with no enemies and explosions all around me again. I couldn't progress AGAIN. Fortunately the last autosave was in Rivendale. I reloaded again and went to Fornost and played until I reached the first area where you can transport out. When I chose to return to Nordinbad I was taken to where I was supposed to be and could proceed normally again. Weird.
Yes! Got the platinum trophy for this this afternoon. By far the most difficult trophy to get was the Strength of Our Alliance. I kept getting into matches where the other two people just weren't interested in cooperating. Then I get into a match where these two guys were purposely trying to get it. I'm like "Sweet!" Then we got some pretty good hits in an ALMOST got it but I lost my server connection at the last moment. That was actually happening all day. Then I manage to get back online and go into another random match and, for whatever reason, we managed to get a couple of group kills within a couple of minutes or so. I felt kinda bad for the other two guys whose match I got kicked out of. All in all, this is a decent game but it's got some unfortunately terrible glitches. I got the infamous Mirkwood glitch on my heroic playthrough and was only able to progress once again when I deleted the patch again. Then I had problems with quests being dropped for no reason. There were a few other random problems as well. So if you're lucky enough to avoid the glitches then it's pretty fun. If not...good luck! Although, I will say my Legendary playthrough was probably the easiest one of all. Why? Two words: explosive shot. Get that skill for Farin and level up your dexterity and the rest of the game is a cakewalk.
