I have Sony Digital Camera I brought 4 year ago. On it is a menu button. When I have had it for the past for years it worked fine. Now I press it and nothing happens.

Can someone help me please I need to use the camera soon and I want to be able to use the menu.

Serious reply: Have you tried turning it off and back on - it works for me sometimes (but different camera).

You're probably better off buying a new camera. It would be cheaper Ithink

I have tried turnning it on and off. Doesn't help.

I don't have enough money for a new camera right now. Besides this one works fine (except for menu button)

    Hit it with a rock.

Okay, seriously, I can't help. I'm a monstrous dunce when it comes to technology.

Remove the button. Most likely you'll have to hit the thing with a pen to use the button.

That wont work unless I rip the entire thing off. I don't think its the button itself. The rest of the buttons work fine. It think its somthing wrong with the camera. Some kind of error or somthing. This happened before but it started working again. I don't know whats happening.

This is close to what my camera is.

    http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=ELEC&pid=00356012000&subcat=Camcorders

It doesn't look like that but it is the same kind.

He was sugesting that you update the firmware. Its the software that runs the camera. A quick Google search shows that it is availible for certain sony cameras on the net. If it isn't something wrong with the physical button (something keeping it from being pushed in) updating the firmware may be your best bet.

Edit: Thats not a digital camera. Are we really talking about a digital camcorder or are we talking about a hi-8 camcorder?

Well that completely changes what we are talking about.

Do you have USB on it? Memory stick?

Here is Sony's download site. If its an old hi8 you might just be SOL in this regard. Take a look at the site though. The number for your camcorder is on a sticker on the botton of the camera.

I have a usb but I can not get it to work unless I go though the menu.

And I do have a memory stick but to where to put it in my computer.

Well check the site for updates on your camcorder first. It may be a moot point. When we were talking digital cameras there seemed to be multiple updates availible. If we are talking Hi8 it just doesn't seem as prevelant.

Either way I wouldn't think that not being able to access USB through the menu would be a problem. Firmware updates would normaly override the normal operating methods. To use the memory stick you'd need an adapter for your computer. If you don't have on on your computer now (most newer computers have a slot for everything) you can get one relatively cheap at any retail store.

The problem? Your camera is four years old. Buy a new one. It's most likely no longer under warranty.

Remember commercially made camara's are built to brake down after a couple of years, forcing you to buy a new one. I believe you have reached this point where Sony says: Buy a new one.

Firmware update won't do a thing on a menu button, It has worked for four years, and it most lileky that it has broken down.
