With all the talk about which movie the Episode VII trailer will be attached to, I got to thinking: Does it really matter in this day and age? Chances are, StarWars.com will upload the trailer in the video section within days of its release. Besides, there will be countless iPhone videos of the trailer on YouTube the day of the release. Will most fans really pay the full price of a ticket (which has skyrocketed since 1999) to watch a SW preview like they did for TPM with all these other options available? (For clarification, I'm not saying that seeing the trailer in a theater isn't worth it. I myself plan on doing so. I'm talking about the fanbase as a whole, not the select few who appreciate a true cinematic experience. )
Tru dat, but 95 million theatrical speakers and a giant silver screen would change my perception of the trailer as opposed to, like, watching it on a cellphone from youtube.
In modern times, releasing it online will have more people seeing it than theaters. People will be sharing it on FB and twitter nonstop, every website will have the video EMBEDDED on their site.
My first experience with the Episode 1 trailer was taped footage of Entertainment Tonight. And I was pleased as punch.
While I'm sure there will be plenty who will want to see it on the big screen, it will certainly be very available online. As for it's importance, while I'm sure it won't matter to most SW fans, who will see it no matter what, I think the trailer's importance cannot be underestimated. Just ask the producers of Iron Man 3 or Star Trek Into Darkness.
If it's attached for a movie I was on the edge about seeing or going to see anyway, I will wait till I see the movie in order to see the trailer. If not, I have a giant TV I can hook my computer up to and play it on there.
There won't be any "taped footage" of the trailer online, because they'll officially realease it online the moment it's done, like everyone does in the 21st century.
The teaser trailer will definitely be on TOS at almost the same time as theaters get it. I still remember the 3SA Mods were locking/deleting threads like left and right when the teaser trailer for ROTS hit because it was for Hyperspace members only at TOS until the following Monday(and it was against the rules to post a mirror of it online). It'd be nice to go into a theater during late 2014 and be totally surprised when the Episode VII starts but we'll likely know it's coming weeks or possibly months beforehand.
