I only like the 1st film. Good story, good acting and good special effects.

I just read the book recently and it's got quite a mature theme because the whole story can be taken as just the imagination of a kid who believes in what he's reading so much that he thinks it's true.

Anyway, the first movie's cool and has a great soundtrack. I like the part when Atreyu passed between those shooting statues, and when Falkor the luckdragon saves him from Gmork, the wolf.

Then there's that sad part when Artax, his horse sinks down in the swamp of sadness.

And an awesome ending!! The world got destroyed, except for a speck of sand which the childlike Empress had...but it got recreated through Bastian's thoughts and hopes.

I agree first one was great. The big old rock guy, the huge turtle looking dude. Just thought the fight between morge think it was and atrayu could of been little more to it but still it was a great sence when their both talking and don't know who each other are.

I love that movie!I have it on DVD with digtally remastered sound and picture. The first one is the greatest and I don't see any need to buy the sequels any time soon, maybe I'll buy them some other time when I really feel up to spending my money on them.

This is one of those movies that hold a special place since it was one that I watched many times as a kid

I was really young when this movie came out, but I remember I was OBSESSED with it. It was some good times, and then I saw it playing on some TVs at Best Buy or some other place like Best Buy about a year ago...good times.

I remember my mom read the book to me when I was in Kindegarden, and we had to renew it three times because it took us so long to read...I need to read the book for myself now.

While the sequel NEVER EVER should have been made, the first film is fantastic and should have been left as a stand alone! I wish I had it on DVD or something because the last time I saw it was as a youngin! :)

"While the sequel NEVER EVER should have been made"

There's two of em. The third one is really bad.

The Neverending Story is also a childhood favorite of mine. Really into the adventure and fantasy of it when I was a kid. Own it on DVD. Wolfgang Petersen directed it. That theme song's classic. I actually did pick up the first sequel for $5.88 in one of those Walmart bins. Kind of curious about it since I didn't remember the sequel that well, and The Road Warrior's George Miller did direct it. The late Jonathan Brandis took over the role of Bastian.

Third one's actually got Jack Black in it as some school bully, and the Free Willy kid as Bastian.

So was I. What IS it about this movie? I have it on DVD and will never get tired of it. :)

But again, what is it that keeps us watching over and over?

My favorite scene is when Atreyu first meets Falcor.

    "I like children."

    "For breakfast?" :D

Anyone know what that kid who played Atreyu is up to these days? He's probably like 30 now? I had the hugest crush on him when I was young.

That's Noah Hathaway. I just saw him recently doing some modern day interviews on the Battlestar Galactica Series box set. He played Boxey. Before that, I hadn't seen him since the movie, Troll.

One of the Best movies ever!

A little trivia: the name Bastian chooses and shouts at the end is "moon child" It took me years to figure that out!

    The empress rocks!

I agree with Springfield lawyer Lionel Hutz's lawsuit against the makers of the NEVER ENDING STORY.....that was blatant false advertising.

Just thought the fight between morge think it was and atrayu could of been little more to it. I agree.

There's two of em. The third one is really bad?.Yes, the concept of the first film was totally lost in it. And Atreyu wasn?t even there.

My favorite scene is when Atreyu first meets Falcor. That?s a cool part. Especially because of the star night background behind.

A little trivia: the name Bastian chooses and shouts at the end is "moon child" It took me years to figure that out!?Yes, it was the point in which he truly believed in the world, and had to give the Empress a new name.

Then there?s that part when he appears in front of her, and she shows him the grain of sand, and tells him that through it he can have as many wishes as he want?s.

    Then he asks, ?Anything??

And immediately we see him flying on Falkor with that cool music. Awesome.

`A little trivia: the name Bastian chooses and shouts at the end is "moon child" It took me years to figure that out!'

That's surprises me. I had always thought it was Mother, as his own wasn't around anymore. A mother brings renewal and that name did so. Looks like I'm wrong. :D

You aren't wrong. In the book, he gives her his mother's name, unlike in the film.

I thought that his mother's name in the book was Moon Child. I could be wrong. I read the book about eight years ago.

I thought it was cool that the first sequel at least tried to follow a portion of the plot of the second half of the book. However, it was really bad noetheless. I have not seen the third one. I saw the box at the rental place once and just thought to myself, "Another one?"

Thank you so much for that trivia! I've been going crazy trying to figure out what the heck he was saying.

I, too, saw the film when I was young. There are just certain movies, books, and tv shows that will remind me of my childhood. Ah, nostalgia.........

Looking back on it, I realized it was more than just a sappy children's fantasy story, it celebrated the human imagination.

One of the best kids movies from the early eighties!

Best scene ever was when the Empress and Sebastian are talking against nothing but blackness and the small piece of light that was once Fantasia.

The Empress = TPM Amidala :D

    That's a good part.

The scenes I like most are Atreyu riding on Artax, and later flying on Falkor.
