I'm sure everyone else has noticed the screams in ROTJ when the celebration scene turns to Coruscant, but I haven't seen it brought up. I was wondering if anyone knows what the screams are saying - if anything. I've watched the scene many times and I still have no idea.

I've heard freedom yelled, and also a Stormtrooper screams. I haven't heard the "Son of the Suns" bit, but I'll have to listen.

I had heard something 'of the suns' before I came on this board and afterwards could hear 'son of the suns'. However people, who I have played it to only heard a strange alien languae, but after I told them what I thought it was they agreed. I believe that its not conclusive, but there is evidence that it could be the 'son of the suns'.

It is defiently "Son of the Suns", and is said twice. I also believe it is the same audio file that is used during TPM's celebration. There is also a cry of "Freedom!", and a "Willhelm" scream as a Stormtrooper is being manhandled by a crowd.

Someone seems to shout "The son of suns ... son of the suns!"

It's also heard several times in the Ewok celebration at the very end, if you listen carefully, but the voice is sped up to sound like an Ewok. :D It only begins when Luke joins the celebration, so I'm convinced that's what's being shouted.

The Wilhelm scream rocks- it's why it's used in like a billion movies.

    'It's son of suns!'

    *Bashes head through monitor*

It's a random alien chant put in by Burtt for that scene and reused ad naseum in the Ewok Village and in Theed.

The first part of the chant has an extra syllable so it's not 'Son of suns' repeated twice.

There is a definite 'K' sound in the chant.

The subtitles never identify it as Son of Suns.

Lucas nor anyone involved in SW in any way (even EU folk) ever even hint that that's what's being said.

'Son of Suns' is a discarded idea from the earliest drafts. This basic idea came about in the PT as a vague prophecy. If it was Son of Suns, why not have Mace quote it? He seems obssessed with the Chosen One enough.

A fan read about Son of Suns and then his ears played tricks on him.

If you're that bloody certain it's 'Son of Suns' ask the OS.

Why would a random character we don't even see, bring up a huge plot point at the end of the movie and even then make it so vague there needs to be threads asking about it?

There. Tons of factual evidence to shoot it down and only 'But but but! It'd be really neat-o cooool and it iiis!' to back it up.

For my opinion. For my first viewing of the SE, I thought it was saying 'Hey Coruscant! Coruscaaant!'

But for years I'd been hearing a chant in the Ewok village that sounded freakishly like my neices name, Krislyn. Shoutin 'Hey Krisyl!' or 'Go Krislyn!' That obviously wasn't it, but it sounded enough like it. Then I realized that it was the same voice here, and on Coruscant. But in both cases, there was a definite hard K sound.

So I played the subtitles and got: 'Alien chanting.'
    There's your mystery.

On the DVDs (not sure about the VHS SEs) on Tatooine you can hear more alien chanting. It i[]sounds[/i] like, but isn't, 'Our boy did it!' or 'Everybody do it!' But it's just more chanting.

The only discernable shout during the celebration are on Cloud City: 'Freedom!' and Naboo: 'Weesa free!'

It's "The son of the suns, the son of the suns!".

And it is there if you have your sound system set up correctly.

"A fan read about Son of Suns and then his ears played tricks on him."

Then how come people who have never heard of the "Son of Suns" before, heard it?

"So I played the subtitles and got: 'Alien chanting.'
    There's your mystery."

The subtitles also neglet to include "Wesa Free!" during the Naboo scene (by that logic, the Gunguns never said it because it wasn't in the subtitles).

yuh huh. And what about the other 1001 points I brought up?

Like I said, if your sooooo sure, ask the OS.

I never believed it was "Son of the Suns." Personally, I never heard it. I think it's just some random gibberish. Although, the first time I heard it, I thought they were saying, "Long live Coruscant! Long live Coruscant!"

What if it's just some alien gibberish that translated into English means, "Hey, some jerk stole my wallet!"? Not quite as mystical as "Son Of The Suns"...

That may be what's shouted over Tatooine. Like I said, it's hard to tell. I definitely hear D sounds there though.

The subtitles also neglet to include "Wesa Free!" during the Naboo scene (by that logic, the Gunguns never said it because it wasn't in the subtitles).

Actually by that logoc, they simply didn't subtitle it. But the fact that they did subtitle the chant means it's no 'Son of Suns'. Now, if they subtitled 'Weesa Free' differently, then my point would be damaged a bit. I'll have to check to see if they subtitle 'Freedom' on Bespin (Aww gee, that means I have to watch the celebration scene again. Shucks ;) )
Funny. On the DVD they subtitle 'Wesa Free' but not the chant. They also don't subtitle the other chants. Still no Son of Suns though :p

Also, I'm not sure what they shout on Tatooine or if there's a D sound...

that's weird. my DVDs do have "Wesa Free!" in the subtitles and i can hear the gungan saying it.

as for "son of suns" or "freedom", no subtitles there, nor do i think that's what they are saying. it's just some weird alien chant

Can the Stormtroopers (or Imperials) some people speculated be seen getting manhanded by the cheering crowd? It makes sense to me that the Wilhelm is used for one of them. The thing is it goes off shortly before they destroy the huge Emperor Palpatine statue.

    Thank you, That_Wascally_Droid.

Now this rumor can go right into the trash bin with the "Anakin will be called Vader before the duel", and "Anakin will use a red saber against Obi-Wan" rumors.
