At long last, the forgotten EU masterpiece of Derek J. Reda has finally been remembered. Though disputes with author Reda and early negative publicity led LFL to pull the book, Reda has at long last forced its release through successful legal action. We welcome BFATROTDF to the official LucasBooks roster, as a full part of canon (especially confirmed by Holocron keeper Leland Chee as VS-canon).

It is a time of political turbulence. Conflict rages in the Senate as that august body attempts to determine a singular true history of the events that led it to the current state of war. The stakes in this effort to establish the truth are high, and many sinister bodies have their own malevolent motives to manipulate the Senate's decisions, with possible disastrous results for the galaxy. Most dangerous of all are the evil masterminds of the Dark Falls, a secret society dedicated to the overthrow of peace and justice. With the complicity of corrupt Senators, they intend to convince to endorse their devious lies.

Only one being stands in their way. Bib Fortuna, majordomo to Jabba the Hutt, knows the truth, and he is desperate to save the Senate from tragedy. This lone hero stands as the bright burning hope of the galaxy, but who can hope to resist the Dark Falls? Bib Fortuna is willing to risk everything in hope of averting this evil . . . but first he must overcome some sort of Viper!

I've always loved this book. I think it only gets a bad rap because of the controversial lekku scene? you know which one I'm talking about?, but really, was there any other way to end it?

It didn't have to be so graphic, though.

I loved this one. It needed more Mandalorian Content but was otherwise fine. And who would have ever thought that Bib Fortuna was actually an Old Republic Jedi, having fallen in with Jabba to hide from the Empire?

Yeah, that was quite the coup for Reda; not only does he get it finally released, but he gets TCW to adapt it too. I wonder if LFL didn't just cave in on the lawsuit because they realized what perfect material they had here to really drive the next season of the show and throw in some great high-level political intrigue to go along with Reda's patented kickass action.

I don't know about this, I really don't. I mean, the novel is all well and good, but does it really need its own campaign guide? I mean, sure, WEG made sourcebooks for every novel it could, but at least those were decent...

EDIT: And yes, let's not get started on the adult content. Honestly, Twi'lek sexual metaphors are so overdone--Alema was bad enough, but Bib really doesn't need to get in on the action.

A debonair and James Bond-esqe Bib is wonderful, but he needs more class.

Yeah, I didn't even think you could do that with a lekku. Ick!

Didn't they actually come up with a word for that particular act, too? I was excited on the first read, because I thought we'd get a language out of it. Instead, we got Mando'a later from Traviss - Reda did it first!

Ugh. Good book and all, but this thread is going to degenerate into yet another argument concerning the canonical length of Bib's Lekku. And so what if his personal speeder has turbolasers!

Of course we can't say here what SSD stands for in this book, for fear of the banhammer. [face_blush]

Honestly, that was about the only interesting part in the book. It was a little over the top, granted - we didn't really need the specific descriptions of how the tchun and tchin were...separately occupied - but it was certainly more interesting than pages and pages of ship specs for every single Dark Falls operative.

You have to remember, though, Reda was writing at a time when there wasn't a lot of EU to go on. With all that hyper-detail, he was trying to expand the universe before there was even a universe to expand.

What are you talking about? I thought the way it clarified the timeline regarding Fett's third fall into the Sarlacc was sheer elegance in its simplicity!

FTW - who hires these authors anyway. LucasArts has really jumped the shark.
Yet another rip off on tentacle porn. The Japanese version was better.

    Re: The Lekku Scene

I apologize to those of you who were offended by the creative use of lekku. However, the graphic nature of the scene was necessary to make it an effective metaphor for pre-Republic history. There simply was no better way to portray it, and my editors agreed.

Trivia: I actually got the scene's finer details from a collection of unpublished scripts for Return of the Jedi. There was also some unused concept art, but they may be using it for the TV show adaptation, so I can't talk about it...

Speaking of adaptations, have you seen your Clone Wars episode yet? What do you think? Are you mostly involved with the TV series' now, or do you think you might get back into novels?

Also, from the text under your handle...I completely forgot about Dark Fall of the Rise of Dark Falls! Are we going to be seeing that soon?

I've only gotten the chance to skim through this book briefly, but it like it's destined to be one of the great masterpieces of the Star Wars EU.

I especially liked the part where the Dark Lord of the Falls splits himself into multiple, miniature selves in order to infiltrate the Republic High Authority Citadel, forcing Bib to project himself into the 8th Dimension

Also, I'd like to thank Mr.Reda for taking the time to describe all of the ships in appearing in his story in perfect clarity. I had no idea that a Challenger class Super Star Destroyer prototype required 37 clone chefs to man it's galleys!

I have the advance print. I know I'm not supposed to say anything about spoilers for what they've changed in the special additions, but I really think everyone's going to like where Traviss punched up the Mandalorian involvement in the book.

Oh, and Havac, I think you'll really like Drew K's fixing of the previous continuity issues in the original novel!
