Here's a great idea from our friend DarthIntegral.

What do you think about the LACWAC community having a thread to keep a rolling count of the casualties we see on screen in the CW cartoon? Could be an interesting thing to keep track of, and it could also be a way to monitor how the show is balancing certain things: Republic wins, CIS wins, Republic losses, CIS losses, comedy vs. war, etc.

So we're going to try to keep track of all the casualties to date: Clonetroopers, Jedi, Battle Droids, others. And we're going to need your help. Especially with the Battle Droids.

I'll update the first post each week to reflect the new casualties numbers.

Anyone want to get started? :p

Are we counting battle droids as in named ones, or battle droids and clones in terms of numbers? Because the numbers might take a really long time. XD

    Oh, we're talking numbers, baby!

If you want to specify any named clones, that's fine.

I'm going to try to start with S01E01 Ambush tonight.

Now viewing Ambush - it's hard to tell because I might count a couple of the Battle Droids twice, but here's what I've got:

(not counting vehicles like tanks and escape pods)

    Clonetroopers - 0
    Jedi - 0
    Battle Droids - 42
    SBD - 18
    Destroyers - 9

Surely at least one clone died when their ship was destroyed?

Right, if we're counting casualties there must be someway to account for ships and kills. Obviously a one man fighter is a single kill, but in the case of the larger class ships how would we count the deaths? Like in Destroy Malevolence for instance (even though we're not discussing it quite yet) that's gotta be a lot of battle droids. In any event, I'm gonna check Ambush again myself, I'm bored and don't have anything better to do, see if numbers match up. Sometimes a different perspective can help as far as accuracy might go.

    Neat idea :D

Questions though. Do we only count on screen deaths? And isn't it worth counting vehicle loss and other miscellaneous things as well?

I think that we can count infantry one by one the way Garth Maul listed, and fighters and their pilots can count towards that. One Clone Figher=One clone, one vulture droid=one droid, unless you want to count them as a different class of droid altogether. I do think that capital ships should have their own separate category, though, as they're lots more significant than other vehicles.

And I suppose large superweapons like the Malevolence have to get their own category. XD

Well, for capital ships, we have guides that tell us how many clones or droids usually crew each ship model, so when one blows up, we add that total. I do think they should be tallied separately from "direct" kills, though.

    Venator Star Destroyer
    Crew: 7,400
    Troops: 2,000

    Munificent Star Frigate
    Crew: 200
    Troops: 150,000

    Lucrehulk Battleship
    Crew: 150-350
    Troops: 100,000

    Republic Medical Frigate
    ???

    Malevolence
    ???

Didn?t Grievous destroy at least 6 Venetor starships on screen in the Malevolence saga? That?s a lot of dead clones, and I think as much as 20 had been destroyed before the first episode began. How can Kamino produce that many clones?

I have the onscreen unit/vehicle loss count for the Malevolence saga, should I PM or wait until next week?

    (1) I'd like to get some kind of confirmation on Ambush before moving on to the Malevolence arc, if possible;

    (2) I personally think we should only count onscreen deaths;

    (3) I should 3 or 4 tanks onto my list if we're counting vehicles;

    (4) I don't believe any clones died in Ambush, because Yoda et al were the only ones to leave in the escape pods, and their cruiser left - wasn't destroyed.

I'm not sure about the "on-screen only" rule. Take the example of the Clone Wars movies scene where Anakin arrives at the top of the monastery. He is circled by 3 BD and 5 SBD, then we see 2 BD falling down the cliff and Anakin finishing off 2 SBD and it's over. So, even though we only saw 4 droids biting it, we KNOW he must have killed all 8 who were surrounding him, even though it happened off-screen.

    No, I'd agreed with that.

I meant more people estimating or assuming a certain number of clone or droid deaths, when we don't see them at all onscreen.[face_peace]

Ok, I agree as well that such casualties shouldn't be added with the "on-screen" casualties. But I still think they should be recognized. Either by a separate "crewmen tally" or simply a "spaceship tally".

Yeah- keep a separate tally for "estimated casualties" covering capital ships and such.

    Here's my count:

    1 Republic transport ship
    1 Escape pod
    4 AATs

42 Battledroids (possibly 43, depending on if Yoda pulled 1 or 2 out of the AAT, only one was shown on the clone's scope)
    24 Super Battledroids
13 Droidekas (10 squashed by the rock, 3 by the coral)

I am pretty confident about the droidekas, but I have no idea why I end up with so many more SBD. I got it to 5 that were initially shot down by the clones, 14 shot down by Yoda using a droid and after that 5 while Yoda was slashing through the column.

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but if you include deaths off screen, then that's going to be making a lot of assumptions.

I forgot about the 3 Droidekas squashed by the coral.

I couldn't tell if there were 9 or 10 destroyers confronting Yoda the 2nd time, but if you're confident, I'm okay with the 13. The 24 SBDs, I'll have to watch again. D'oh!

yupp counted the droidekas again, there were 9 rolling in towards Yoda, but then a barley visible one appeared to the elft once they deployed the shields.

Have we come to an official decision for Ambush? And is someone keeping an excel sheet on this or something? ^^

Anyway, here's my count for the Malevolence arc

    RISING MALEVOLENCE

    Clone Troopers: 3
    Battledroids: 4
    Super Battledroids:
    Droidekas:

    Stardestroyer: 3

Notes: Only onscreen dead clones counted, 1 clone lying dead in pod, 2 sucked out into space 4 pods launched, one collided with debris and exploded, 2 got claimed by the podhunter

    SHADOW OF MALEVOLENCE

    Clone Troopers:
    Battledroids: 1
    Super Battledroids:
    Droidekas:

    Republic Bombers: 6
    CIS Fighters: 5
    Stardestroyers: 1
    Medical Transports 6

Notes: You may count fighter/bomber ships towards unit casualties if you wish
Possible errors: 5 Med transports instead of 6

    Battledroid killed by Grievous
The Stardestroyer was claimed to be a jedi escort

    DESTROY MALEVOLENCE

    Battledroids: 28
    Super Battledroids: 9
    Droidekas: 3
    CIS fighters: 2
    CIS Flagship: 1

Possible errors: 2 less droids could have been killed when Obi-Wan hurled the first Droideka at the bridge
1 droid knocked over by explosion, possible death (not counted)
5 CIS fighters went after the Twilight, only 2 were destroyed on-screen
1 of the battledroids killed by Grievous (counted)

Clone Wars Campaign Guide reveals the Malevolence to be a Subjugator-Class Heavy Cruiser, if we want to include it's proper name here.
