Star Wars - Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader
    by James Luceno

    <img src="http://www.starwars.com/eu/lit/novel/img/20050628_1_bg.jpg">

"In Episode III you witnessed Anakin Skywalker succumb to the dark side and be reborn as the fearsome Darth Vader. To find out what happens next, you'll need to read Star Wars: Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader.

The Republic has become the Empire, ruled by the wicked Palpatine with order enforced by his new right hand agent, Darth Vader. The galaxy is reeling from civil war and the shocking elimination of the Jedi Knights. Some worlds are resistant to the New Order, and are determined to make a stand against these sweeping new changes.

One of Darth Vader's first tasks is to snuff out these early embers of resistance, and it is this mission that will lead him to discover his true strength and come into his own as the Emperor's iron fist.

Star Wars: Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader is a new novel by author James Luceno. Together with his previous book, Labyrinth of Evil and Matthew Stover's bestselling Revenge of the Sith novelization (which are now being combined into an omnibus, as described here), this new hardcover forms a trilogy of novels chronicling the collapse of the Republic and the emergence of the Empire.

Star Wars: Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader is due out in hardcover from Del Rey Books on November 22."

So, I've heard about a clone disobeying orders. Anyone care to elaborate?

    [image=http://www.starwars.com/eu/lit/novel/img/20050603_bg.jpg]

Granted it's not much better but it is an improvement over the final vesion.

    Spoiler-ish stuff below:

On the planet Murkhana (where a number of other Jedi mentioned in the LoE paperback excerpt are also engaged), a clone commando lets Jedi Knight Roan Shryne and his padawan Olee Starstone escape the initial purge, attracting Vader's tender mercies. (We're pretty sure they'll do just fine, though.)

...Yeah, I know I used black spoiler-ish invisotext even though this is a "spoiler" thread, but I'm a rebel like that.

    Don?t begrudge a guy a little tee-hee while he's working, bro.

I have a feeling they will be wearing those Vader promo shots and the orange and black out.

The sooner we get back to fully painted covers (When you've got people like Struzan, Dorman and Busch on your side, why keep with the boring, unimaginitive, unexciting photomanips of late?)

    >>"Crappiest cover ever."<<

Nah, that goes to New Essential Chronology. "It's a history book, spanning from the creation of the galaxy to the furtherst reaches of the Dark Nest trilogy. What shall we put on the cover? Oh, Palpatine, Grievous, and Boba, and a whole lot of jazzy colours." Old one was a MUCH better frontpiece.

I think the final cover is better than the original one. It´s not a masterpiece, and it is a bit bad - it just doesn´t look "right" somehow - but the bigger Vader draws attention better than the smaller one in the original - which could help sell the book, as it is more likely to catch the eye of average buyers in a bookshop. The original cover had also too much text. This book should be about Vader - even if it seems also to be about three Jedi and Bail Organa - so it is natural that the cover also makes this clear.

It's a trilogy, Cooper---Labyrinth, ROTS and Dark Lord. A subtle cover-colour ploy to triad them as one.

Was Labyrinth a NY Times bestseller, by the way? Every SW book cover seems to label it.

The paperback Labyrinth is a NY Times bestseller. Most of them are labeled that way because most of the are NY Times bestsellers.

Dark. Very orange. Static. Orange. They haven't worked out more John Alvin covers could seduce a hardcover out of me. I'd utilise procurement arrangements to cheapen the purchase, yes, but look at his JAT and Fett covers!

So any ideas on where this fits on the timeline?

It'd be neat if it was placed to enable this:

    Republic 78-83, Purge, Dark Lord

A compact post-ROTS Vader arc mixing books and comics.

    Don't forget Recruitment.

    >> Nah, that goes to New Essential Chronology.<<

NEC isn't that bad, about on par with the NEG series- certainly nowhere near as horrible as this cover.

Are you kidding?! The NEC cover is, IMO, about a million times worse than this (this one's just mediocre).

    Released Excerpts of "Dark Lord."

    -The OS-Report 1

Beyond the upcoming novel Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, the timeline immediately following Episode III has not yet been firmly solidified in the Star Wars expanded universe, so the creative team is also looking to other sources for a regular stream of the kind of inside "Easter eggs" that intrigued the fans of Reversal of Fortune.
    -Evasive Action: Recruitment Preview

"Vader yearned for the time when memories of Anakin would fade, as if light absorbed by a black hole. Until that happened, his life-sustaining suit would be an ill fit. Even if it was well suited to the darkness in his invulnerable heart...
    -Comic-Con 2005 Del Rey booth

Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader begins on the Outer Rim world of Murkhana with Order 66 transmitted to clone troopers advancing with the Jedi against Seperatist positions. But on Murkhana, a clone commando refuses to obey orders, giving Jedi Roan Shryne and Padawan Olee Starstone a chance to hide. Unfortunately for clones and Jedi alike, Palpatine dispatches Vader to Murkhana to investigate the incident.
    ---
Shyrne and Starstone struggle to escape the reach of the new Empire and keep the jedi traditions alive, with Vader in furious pursuit. We see the Empire's devestation of Kashyyyk with Vader swinging his saber and a certain Wookiee in the middle of the battle. We get to sit in on some of the first meetings between Vader and Moff Tarkin. And we visit Alderaan, where Bail Organa tries to solve the riddle of Vader's identity-and keep the new Sith Lord away from his infant stepdaughter and a certain pair of droids.

    Thanks R4!

And we visit Alderaan, where Bail Organa tries to solve the riddle of Vader's identity

So does this mean that Vader = Anakin Skywalker is being kept on the QT? That also makes me wonder (and sorry if this has already been answered officially or extensively in the EU) to what extent is it ever known that Anakin is Vader, or that Anakin was a "traitor" to the Jedi? Were false reports made that he died in the purge? If so, what "side" was he reported to have been on?

Well, somewhere, in the SW Insider Article, it says the Galaxy believes that Skywalker was killed in the Temple Raid. Nothing mentions Vader killing him or anything...

    EDIT: Almost Forgot!
    Dark Lord: Hyperspace Snippet
NOTE: Not the Excerpt...But it is where it says what I said above...
