When the Imperial prison barge Purge?temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy?s most ruthless killers, rebels, scoundrels, and thieves?breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict, and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back?bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

And death is only the beginning.

The Purge?s half-dozen survivors?two teenage brothers, a sadistic captain of the guards, a couple of rogue smugglers, and the chief medical officer, the lone woman on board?will do whatever it takes to stay alive. But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting aboard the Star Destroyer amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn?t really empty at all. For the dead are rising: soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.

Is that Jedi just something that they put on for the Galaxies poster or is that going to be in the book?

Well, as it's an Imperial Dungeon Ship and it's called Purge, I'm hazarding a guess that the mad scientist may be screwing with imprisoned Jedi.

I'm still surprised they made a Star Wars horror novel, even though so far it sounds and looks like just a typical horror/zombie novel/movie. Oh well, at least its not part of the FotJ stupidity (had more than enough of that already), and hopefully it'll be competently written (or better). Funny to see something with a Star Wars Galaxies symbol though, as it sorta seems like they're already gearing up for the Old Republic (with how they shut down some Galaxy servers recently). Here's hoping its a good novel (and at least its the right month for this kind of thing).

I wanted to wait for the PB, but right now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just get it over with while the hype is still warm, maybe it'll be more fun that way. I haven't read a SW book in ages, and I even started to neglect Rebel Force and the Digest comics which I both intend to collect. Maybe just for the fun of it...

...but I'm still not sure if it will be worth it.

The default Galaxies character is hot blue Twi'Lek Jedi (you know, all that "if I'm playing this game for hours no way I'm gonna look at a male PANTS all the time"), so I guess it probably isn't taken from the novel.

Now that you mention it, this novel is in serious danger of falling into the Ruins Of Dantooine category. Without even remotely being as boring.

Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out how Coldplay's epic emotional outburst will fit into a zombie horror context. OK, they did ZombAid, but that was a bit different than combining "I don't want a battle from beginning to end" with Star Wars.

Ohh, no Han or Chewie on the DP, good, good. Maybe they're just marketing cameos after all.

ZombAid was pure win, that was so hilarious. I laughed so hard when they were pointing out famous rockers turned zombie, like Paul Mccartney, etc.

I hope this book doesn't suck

There sorta is already with the aforementioned SW Galaxies tie-in.

...which suddeny makes me think that's exactly what SWG should be repurposed into after TOR is launched: a framework game to launch interactive instances/quests/areas tying into novel and comic releases.

Let TOR be the MMO game experience, while SWG let's you play missions absed on Deathtroopers, Hand of Judgement, etc or explore areas mentioned in FOTJ, etc...

Please for the love of God, no. The last thing we need is Galaxies actively trying to bungle all new storylines.

Oh, I don't know. They might create a happy accident. They can't bungle Mando history more than it's already bungled, for instance. They can't cluster-thingo the reprisal at Yavin IV... I'm sure they'll accidentally fix something somewhere. Hell, a Galaxies version of Allegiance might be actually fun or something. You never know.

And for kicks, let's sic Sony on the Battle of Ruusan and see if they decide to let a Wookiee Pernicar survive the battle.

Wow so the chief medical officer is actually going to know whats going on, but will she live to tell dun dun duun. Isn't that how it goes, the medical person usually only has a vague idea and lives, or knows everything and dies?

i'm thinking something more akin to a gameplay modules inspired by those sources rather than direct canon versions. Sort of a "here's the premise absed on the book" being all that's canon, "go play how you'd like" being akin to a player-run RPG event or "gameplay elements".
