Personally, I love Greek Myth. The best thing about it is that you don't have to pretend that God doesn't exist. No one knows how Gaia came to be, so the only explanation is that God created her.

Here, you can discuss topics about GM, and even write FanFic.

    Strap in your seatbelts!

Thank you O' Great Kessel Runner

EDIT: Greek and Roman ARE the same thing. THe Romans took over Greece and the Greeks taught them their religion. The only differences are,

    1. The names. The names are changed

    2. Ares was a bad guy. Mars, Ares in Roman was a good, brave warrior.

Yup. I used to know this stuff.

FYI, Greek "classical age" and Greek religion were totally separate. In the classical age, people didn't practice religion as much as they wanted to get high on life itself. Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle influenced the Greeks with their teachings of philosophy more than Zeus or Athena ever did.

I took a mythology class in High School. Should have been college credit though, we were doing everything at a college level. I've always loved Greek myths and other mythologies.

Just wondering, how many greek/roman "sons of gods" actually were there? - Hercules is the one I know off the top of my head but what other demigods exist in the mythology?

That would be Cerebus, the three-headed dog.

I'm something of a GM buff myself. It always amused me the great lengths Zeus would take to get laid on the "down-low." Pretty innovative, if you ask me.

To answer another question, the Greek gods were a pretty randy lot, so the stories are littered with all manner of demi-gods. Off the top of my head. Heracles, Theseus, & Perseus spring immediately to mind.

Speaking of springing to mind, I think the story of Athena's birth to be just plain cartoony. Zeus has a headache, so Hephaestus wacks him with a hammer, and out springs a fully grown, fully armed & armored woman.

    Zeus: Oooooohh...my head...
Hephaestus: Duhhh...gee Dad, I will fix it for you! Duhhh....
    *WHACK!!!!*
    Athena: Good morning, Father.

I read a book on ancient Greek Myths when I was a kid. I found it more interesting than the Bible. Greek gods rule, all Jesus did was go around talking and stuff, Greek gods went around starting wars and and creating other intrigues. Plus their women didn't mind being naked that much. :D

You should check out the story of Bellerophon, that's one I always like. I don't know why, it's just good and dramatic.

EDIT: By the way, would you believe I read every Greek myth that ever was created? I did. //pounds himself on the chest

I have a nice 2-volume Folio Society edition of the Greek Myths, which covers near enough all of them, it's a great read. As well as having read the Iliad & the Odyssey.

I like the story of Eros and Psych or Cupid an Psych depending on which version you read.

Some place I read that the Greek gods were actually great warriors that became legends that then turned into myths.

So what if you've read every Greek myth? I've read every one and know everything about it! There is not a question that you could ask me about GM that I can't answer, right!

    BTW: Interesting fact.
Although Aphrodite was the godess of beuty, and was said to be the most beutiful woman ever, she was not. Artemis was even more beutiful than Aphrodite. She wasn't very well known for it because of her little vow. You know the one.

Yeah, the little part about eternal virginity...always liked Athena better anyways(how can you beat a goddess who's in charge of both wisdom and warfare?).

Greeky myths are cool. Gotta read more of them, as well as those Norse myths I keep hearing so much about...
