    <center><font size=12>STAR WARS: IMPERIAL COMMANDO: 501st</font>
    by Karen Traviss
    Release date October 27

    <img src="http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/d/df/501st_bg.jpg" width="400">

The Clone Wars are over, but for those with reason to run from the new galactic Empire, the battle to survive has only just begun....

The Jedi have been decimated in the Great Purge, and the Republic has fallen. Now the former Republic Commandos -- the galaxy's finest special forces troops, cloned from Jango Fett -- find themselves on opposing sides and in very different armor. Some have deserted and fled to Mandalore with the mercenaries, renegade clone troopers, and rogue Jedi who make up Kal Skirata's ragtag resistance to Imperial occupation. Others -- including men from Delta and Omega squads -- now serve as Imperial Commandos, a black ops unit within Vader's own 501st Legion, tasked to hunt down fugitive Jedi and clone deserters.

For Darman, grieving for his Jedi wife and separated from his son, it's an agonizing test of loyalty. But he's not the only one who'll be forced to test the ties of brotherhood. On Mandalore, clone deserters and the planet's own natives, who have no love for the Jedi, will have their most cherished beliefs challenged. In the savage new galactic order, old feuds may have to be set aside to unite against a far bigger threat, and nobody can take old loyalties for granted.

Has it been confirmed if this will be the last of the "series", or will it end with IC2?

My biggest concern is if IC will just be left hanging, or have a very inconclusive ending.

This is gonna be an awesome novel. Too bad there will only be 2 IC novels. Maybe LucasArts will make an Imperial Commando game?

Do you need to read anything first before this novel or can jump right into this book? Basically I'm asking can is this a stand alone book? Thanks

Traviss tries to write so you can jump in, but it would be a richer experience if you have read the Republic Commando series first. Libraries are your friends if you don't want to invest money first.

Wanna know how much for a completist I am? I'm picking up this book despite the fact that, with the words "Karen Traviss" on the title, I can expect more of her usual cracked rose colored glasses view of the Star Wars universe, and that same view hasn't exactly thrilled me the past few times I read it (especially in Revelation, the NotAMovie Novelization and Order 66.)

I should probably get around to reading Order 66 before I read this. Etain and Darman have always driven me nuts for some reason. Not very free thinking, those two.

I wonder if Scout will be in this? She better not be Etain-ized.

Can "we" as a family on these EU theforce.net boards, officially invite Karen Traviss to come back & hang out with us here? I would really love to see that happen & will be quite sad if the TFN staff & members here don't try & make the effort. Can't wait to read IC: 501st & I'm so looking forward to talking about it with her or to see a blog on her site talking about how she feels about TFN.

Tricky, it's not going to happen. She's said it herself, the estrangement is pretty much permanent, so far as I know.

Pre-emptive alert: this is a thread about 501st, and we're not going to turn it into another Traviss thread. Keep discussion that's only about her to one of the other threads on the matter or to the Author & Artist forum.

(I'm not going to do anything to the tiny bit of discussion up there, just trying to head off any possible future digression.)

    Thanks L_H.

Anyway, I've been going through the Republic Commando books, for the most part enjoying them. I'm on Order 66 and like I said mostly enjoying it; I will say though that the anti-Jedi viewpoint gets old hearing it again and again; also, I get it the clones lives suck.

Anyway, looking forward to what we're gonna get in 501st...just some speculation, maybe Omega will have to help the 501st or maybe even join them?

Wait, let me read the back cover summary again.

I'm really interested to see where Darman stands in this book. I wonder if there is a reason he hasn't run off to join the rest of the Skirata's on Mandalore yet? Clearly if Niner is healed up those two would have the skills to escape the military given the choice.

I think now that the story will take place under the banner of the Empire, we might actually see less "anti-Jedi" sentiment, or at least it will be glossied over to blend in with Imperial propganda. :p

That's good, and they can just explain it away like that, if the whole army's supposed to believe it.

I've definitely enjoyed the RC works, so its nice to see Traviss getting another book out in the area where she really thrives, IMO. It would be nice to see Rex, Appo, and some of the other established 501st characters in here as well, though I'm not sure if we have anything that definitively says whether Rex survives that long or not. I know Appo's supposed to be in charge of the 501st at the time of RotS, but he outranks Rex and the possibility for both to be active is certainly still there, as far as I know.

What's this rumor that Sev is mentioned alive in Deathtroopers?
